I was looking for an opportunity to show off my new icon from [info]sophiecabra, and a perfect reason arrived at my doorstep today.

Ever since I started riding last year, I've wanted a Scorpion jacket. Unfortunately there aren't any dealers near me that sell them, and I hesitated to buy one without trying it on. But a couple of weeks ago I decided to make a 1 hour trek to a dealer that sells them. I loved the Hat Trick jacket. It looks great, and can be worn in all weather. The dealer didn't have one in blue, so I decided to order the jacket from Motorcycle Superstore. The jacket fits great, and I can tell it will be real cozy in cold weather, but comfortable in hot weather too.

This jacket replaces a Joe Rocket Super Ego Leather jacket. That was an awesome jacket too, but it didn't provide any rain protection.

I swear the most expensive part of owning a motorcycle is the gear.

Hello everyone, I should start off with the fact that I never post on LJ, so I barely know how to use it. But, I loves my bikes and loves my furries, so I'll make an exception for furry_bikers :) I'm a crazy raccoon (are'nt they all) who currently resides in the very rainy pacific northwest, so I never take my sunny weather for granted. I've been riding for about three years, and I was always a very anti-motorcycle coon until the first time i rode one. So I quickly stopped wasting money on trying to make cars go fast, and now I have two awesome bikes. A lowered and streched beast of a K1 GSX-R1000 former race bike (no squid jokes) and a year old 07 SV650 naked with just over 6000 miles on the clock.

I am currently spending a couple of months overseas due to, shall we say, governmental obligations, but when I am home I ride every single chance weather permits. When I get back in November I plan on trading the venerable SV650 in on a new Triumph Sprint ST 1050 or a Speed Triple (the sound of those inline 3's make me weak in the knees). I love my SV, and it taught me alot about riding, but I can't afford a garage full of motorbikes. I also do alot of off road dirtbiking, and I'm going to get a new one of those as well (I put the motor out of my old one into a go kart). I'll be trucking my bikes (and most likely RevFox's slow ass DR400 :P) down to FC next year, and I hope to see yall cyclefurs who are in attendance. Now I'm off to do coony things.

-Matix

P.S. Why does LJ spellcheck furries into Fairies >.<

My 2008 Kymco Grand Vixta 250 has 5558.4 miles on it at the time of this writing. I'm about to replace the tires due to normral wear (the rear already has no tread except for chicken strips).

I just looked at my front brake pads and they're down to 9mm thick. I couldn't get a real good look at the rear pads due to the way my bike is built and lack of a small mirror at my present location, but I think they're about the same.

My question is at what point should brake pads be replaced? Wondering because if they're close to needing replacement anyway, I might as well have them replaced at the same time as the tires rather than the inconvienience of my bike being in the shop twice and the labor chrges for two seperate jobs.

Took the time last night to smug up my bike a bit and add power to my iPhone.

I wish the outlet had a smaller profile because it was a bitch to find a mounting location, but none the less it's waterproof and should work fine.

Now I just need a latte holder to go with my iAwesome :D

Just figured I'd post a quick shot of my my Blackbird's odometer as she rolled over 50,000 miles a couple of weeks ago.

I'm happy to report that after 50k she's never had a valve out of adjustment, never burned a drop of oil, and still has fantastic compression.  Also, she's still on her factory battery and the only thing that's needed replacement (aside from oil, tires, etc) is her seat, and I took care of that last month.  Best bike I've ever owned and I'll probably buy another before they completely disappear off the market.

2002 Buell S3T 1203 Vtwin engine.....

was riding today.. stopped at a light, came out of first into second, then the engine light came on. Something made a loud "click" towards the front of the bike and the bike would lurch backward and the engine would sputter. I slowed down, the engine light came off so I sped up again. the same thing happened.

I was only a half mile from home so I took it easy but this "click"-engine light- lurch backward, sputtering engine, engine light turning off and running fine repeated itself about 10 times on the way back. Yes I am one of those guys who try to limp it home instead of shutting it off and hoping I can find a different way to get it back.

what the heck could this be? I'd hate to take it to the harley dealership and find out its another $300 out of my pocket that I just dont have.

ideas???

Next Friday, i will be riding my 1985 BMW K100 RT to a motorbike shop about 120 km from where i live, and i will return with this:

A 1993 BMW K1100 LT. About exactly the same body, fairing and such. Only 16 valve, 100cc more and some nice things such as an electric adjustable wind deflection screen, and a very comfortable seat.
Yay, i'm happy :)

Woof!

As some of you may have seen in my last LJ post i sold my scooter last saturday.
Well, already on friday i saw a very good offer on a website for motorbikes. There was this very nice black Suzuki SV 650 S, not much kilometers down, some extra items on it and a very low prize.

On Sunday morning i called that guy and asked if the bike is still availabe, and he said sure. So i showed up there that evening to have a closer look and a testride with it. Guess what happened ^^

* bling bling* The Pockethuskys pocketrocket :D

First i was not sure if it was right to buy it that fast, but after sleeping over it, i realized what a good deal i got there. Its so much better then these always breaking down scooters hehe...and faster for sure ;)

Its a 2001er Suzuki SV 650 S with 13300 km down, 71 Hp and good for 220 Km/h. Acceleration from 0 - 100 in about 3,8 sec. The engine is a 90* V2 and has really much torque for a 650 ccm engine. Sounds like a small Ducati hehe.

Spezial parts on the bike already:

- tinted Taillight and indicator lights
-black Racingflyscreen
-polished Fork and Rims ( saw that first when i cleaned it at home lol ) * suprise *

I think i really made a good deal with it, its a lot of fun to ride it and i really hope i can find some people around here who want to ride a bit with me at the weekends here at the nuerburgring with this wonderfull weather we got currently here.

Ride safe

A fur friend of mine here in Minneapolis had an awesome idea...bike to Anthrocon!

We loaded up the bikes (my '06 XB12X Uly and his Kawi Vulcan 900) and started out Wednesday in 58F and light rain which pretty much followed us all day, rain gear off and on most of the day. Distance limit was about 110 miles due to puny 3-gal tank and fat jets on the Vulcan, the Uly can do 170-180 on main. Friend wanted to meet someone for lunch in Cleveland the next day so we stopped off in Elkhart, IN for the night. Same weather the next day but a little less rain. We got into Pittsburgh around 5pm Tue and found parking in the hotel ramp. I saw a few other bikes there, sorry if I missed any rides at the con (I'm on staff and probably wouldn't have been able to go anyhows).

The new-style Buell bags worked pretty well in the wet, the top box stayed nice and dry. The panniers leaked a bit, I expected that and had their loads dry-bagged. Only one casualty on the ride down, my friend's raingear legs got warm and friendly with his pipes. Get the nomex-lined pants if you ride a chrome pig! :)

Monday was sunny and 80 degrees for the trip back. Roads were infested with cops, didn't risk any speedin'. We hit a stiff headwind on the way back for most of PA and IN, did a bit of truck-duckin for breaks from the wind. Vulcan's range dropped to 90 miles in the headwind and my el cheapo AGV helmet isn't good in high winds, lots of side force. Stopped for lunch at a IN tollway oasis and readjusted the Buell's suspension, shocks are breaking in nicely. (IN really needs to fix those damn toll ticket machiness, they don't see bikes, you sit there blocking traffic and pounding buttons on the thing until someone pushes a button somewhere and makes the machine give you a toll ticket). The wind died down after Chicago and we could stretch things out a bit. Had dinner at the Wis Dells and pushed the last 200mi in still night air, temps around 50 in the low spots and 75 on the hills. About 18 hours for the trip back to Minneapolis-way too many gas stops! :P

All in all, was a great ride! I'd happily do it again. :)

Does anyone know where online I can buy rain covers for the motorcycle gloves I already gave without also having to buy the gloves?

If it helps, my handpaws measure 8.5 inches (23cm) around the knuckles at the base of my knuckes, so I'm a large.

I know that gloves that come with rain covers don't cost much, but I thought it couldn't hurt to see if I can get just the rain covers.

Since 90% of my year round mileage is on my bike, I'm at risk for getting caught in an unexpected rain.

In the continuing story about high tech biker gear here is today's review:

The Chatterbox XBi2 Bluetooth helmet stereo intercom, Garmin 2820 GPS / Samsung P2 PMP / Bluetooth cell phone system. Edited. WARNING: long, lot of pics and a video, too!  )

As noted by WebBikeWorld, Bluetooth isn't exactly "perfect". If you can't, or won't, deal with Bluetooth's little foibles then I would recommend wires. But I didn't want wires, and the XBi2 hits almost all the marks I could ask for in a helmet system. If they could increase the battery life to 8 hours streaming, and increase the volume by 6 to 9, maybe even 12dB, this thing would be the KILLER of the industry. As it stands, though...I LOVE this thing!! Riding down the interstate on a 4 state 'lunch' run (yep, I'm that crazy) with music to kill the dull times, and still be accessible by your loved ones via cell phone in emergencies, is TOTALLY awesome. No wires to dangle or forget to disconnect when you hop off, and in-helmet GPS warnings allow you to (truly) forget the (rotten) thing exists except when it's issuing a "Hey idiot, turn here" warning, which is the way it should be. A push of the GPS button finds fuel of almost any preferred brand as well as food of almost any taste, easing your mind when you are a stranger in a strange land.

I shouldn't have waited so long to add this stuff!

I just signed up for a 30 day membership with CARFAX to obtain a vehicle history report on the ambulance I just bought. I decided to help out my friends by paying for the unlimited membership for $40 instead of a one-time report for $30. If anyone wants a report for their motorcycle or any vehicle, I'll run as many VIN's as you want for $3 to help cover the cost of the unlimited membership.

Send $3 along with as many VIN numbers as you want me to run to paypal /@/ ungulate.net.

I'm not looking to make any money off of this - if I reach $40, I will run any VIN after than for free, that is until my membership expires!

Enjoy!

So my coworker and a couple of customers were supposed to go riding with me in Malibu on Sunday...and they all flaked last minute.  So, I flew solo.  Pretty normal day in the canyons aside from a TON of police activity.  The only odd moment was on Las Flores Canyon when I was rounding a sharp left-hander I spooked a bird out of the bushes and in it's attempt to fly away it flew directly into my helmet.  Yikes!  No damage to me or my helmet, he pretty much rolled over me, but I think he probably hopped back into the bush and changed his birdy-undies.

Also, hey look, RockStorePhotos guy caught me on the Snake!
