Possible guest.
It has been several years since Dr. Samuel Conway, known to many as "Uncle Kage", appeared at FurtherConfusion.
I for one would love to see his story hour live on stage again.  Is this a possibility, the good doctors schedule permitting of course?

As far as I know, there's some FC/AC politics which is why 2 & Kage don't go to FC any more. That said, if you've seen their show once in a year you've seen their performances for the rest of the year as their material is often repeated.

Him and 2 kinna.. don't ever want to come back. That was their own decision based on con the con was treating them with space and stuff.

Wait... what happened? I am kinda curious, I admire 2 to a certain degree. But if he did something to get banned or something I would at least like to know...

oh no, he didn't get banned. He more banned FC from himself. They weren't giving him enough space to the point that it was a fire hazard at the convention. They were putting him in the rooms for panels and he was asking for main stage, where his audience would have actually fit. My first and last time ever seeing him live was the last time he was at FC. :/ I miss him, but there doesn't seem to be any convincing him to come back. :< I even tried to make a website and an e-mail and everything at one point to convince people and the staff to bring him back (it was called Space For 2!) but there isn't any convincing on both ends. He doesn't want to come back and the Staff doesn't feel they can find the time for the space to be free.

THE CONVENTION NEEDS TO MOVE OUT OF THE DOUBLETREE. That is the bottom line. We don't have enough space for ANYONE at this point...

Well, it is true that their last appearance at FC they were relegated to the rather small for the event, back room at the DoubleTree. It was stuffed to capacity though with a waiting line outside.

I fondly remember back at the Dunfey when Kage followed the masquerade and the ice cream social. Now even that was an only marginally adequate room as it was packed solid.

It's my understanding that the last time they were allowed to organize events both 2 and Kage used the time to publicly diminish and ridicule the efforts of the FC staffers to put on the con, and to talk up and promote Anthrocon as the superior event. If I were organizing a con, I wouldn't want to give any event space to folks who are just going to use it to take a dump on my labors, either. FC, thankfully, will continue to grow and thrive without their participation.

I don't know why they would do that... but either way.. it just sounds like a bunch of drama that got mixed up along the way... =/

I was at their presentation, last time they were at FC, and I didn't get that impression. They were pushing Anthrocon pretty hard at their table in the dealers room, but not at the expense of FC. Leastwise that is how I perceived it.

2 and Kage were not kicked out. There were some mis communications, and misunderstandings. FC's organization process is quite different than many other furry fan run conventions in that it turns over the whole staff from year to year. Some crucial information from year to year was getting lost. The con ended up putting them in WAY too small of a space. Words were spoken, Feathers got ruffled, and feelings got hurt on all sides of the issue. As far as I know they are both welcome to attend, and even perform if they wish. I'm sure the folks involved with FC bare no ill will. It was just an unfortunate misjudgement that I doubt would be repeated.

I mean to respond to you, Oh Smashwolf, but I clicked the wrong button. This lynx needs more practice.

Dr. Kage does not talk about it publicly, but if you catch him alone with the right amount of wine, not too much, not too little, he may explain it to you himself. I'm told that what drove him away was not so much the fact that the rooms were too small, since being a convention organizer himself he understands the ordeal of trying to fit too much into limited space but instead the attitude of the organizers. He was made to feel very unwelcome as though his attendence was an imposition -- something they tolerated with gritting teeth because they "had" to but really wished would go away. That made him uncomfortable. It made it worse when [info]ranting_gryphon was promised the main stage two years in a row but given the tiny room instead and then was told by the person in charge "You do not warrant the main stage." very bluntly. They were insulted and decided they would not go back after that. Then they overheard one of the organizers talking about them at another convention and saying that it was a good thing that Kage and 2 did not go to FC because they are arrogant and demanding and that just reinforced the decision in their minds that they were not wanted there.

One thing about Kage iis that he is very stubborn and when he says he will not go back somewhere, he will not go back for anything. But California is a land of wine so who can say?

Hoping that Kage and 2 are all right with me talking about it, I remain your

Ooyamaneko the lynx.

Well, putting my opinions aside, I can say that it is unfortunate if either of them will let the actions, opinions of a few people to dissuade them form attending. If what you say is true then there really is nothing anyone can do to get them to visit again. it would be entirely up to them to put the past behind them, and consider future appearances.

As for my own personal opinions on furry "celebrity status" ... I feel I've said enough in my own journal when I spoke about GOH status.

I can say that a lot of people, myself included, would like to see Kage, and 2 visit again, if they were able to put the events of the past into the past.

As far as past issues go, I do not remember the specifics but yes, unfortunately the room that they were provided to perform was too small for the number of people that showed up. For the numbers that Kage and 2 pull these days, this would require scheduling on the Main Stage.

Though if either Kage, 2, or both would like stage space at FC2009 they only have to ask.

As the chairman for FC this year, I and my staff will endeavor to do everything I am able to in order to make guests, members, panelists and performers feel welcome at FC2009.
