Viz licenses OOKU! (updated)
No official announcement, but the title has popped up on Simon & Schuster's (distributor of Viz books) website here.

Cross another one off the list!

EDIT: Here's the cover that's on SimonSays now!

Yay! I have been whining wanting that to get licensed for as long time :)

I am amused that they are dropping an 'o', though :)

If this license is true, THIS IS A HUGE F'ING DEAL. I thought the West wasn't allowed to have this manga because of its slow, deliberate release dates and the fact that it was so high-profile our market wouldn't necessarily know what to do with it? But seriously, I PRAY THIS IS TRUE.

I wonder why Viz hasn't announced it. If it's true, it's really fantastic! I've been wondering why the hell the publishers and scanlators seemed to ignore this manga.

I'm (pathetically) behind on my comms, but I'm very very excited about this. I have the tankoubans, and I've been OK with not knowing what's going on because the art is so engrossing. This is wonderful news! Belated thanks for the excellent news!

This takes the cake of all awesome cakes. I've devoured the first volume (well, sort of-- it takes a while to read, what with all the Edo-isms and that) and am on my way to BookOff for the second, third, and hopefully forth.

LOVE. I just have no idea how they want to convey all the layers (language is one of Yoshinaga's strong suits, after all) in English... but yet, VERY glad someone decided to license it.
