Full Circle Community

I'm sorry to say we're going to have to put Full Circle on hiatus a bit. We're making a big move from one state to another, and with all the craziness I'm just not feeling up to the comic right now, and as a result I think it's showing in the art and layout. I can do better, I know I can. We have a big long story to tell which a lot of love has gone into and I want to do it justice. I want the art quality and the frequency of updates to improve. And we need to step back to make that happen. Once settled in a new place, and taking the time to get a head start on planning the rest of this chapter and onward, will help a LOT. I've given this a lot of thought and it will be good for me AND good for Full Circle.

Hang in, folks. I really do think it will be worth the wait.

In the meantime I really encourage you guys to discuss character development, plot and world design, and more here! I'll be offline altogether for a while towards the end of June, but not for long. So I should still be able to mod here and take care of business. Questions about Full Circle or character development in general are more than welcome too, so ask away.

Again, I am sorry to do this. And at the same time, I know it's the best thing and it WILL be temporary!

Woot, finally happy with the Sphlynx. One down. :) Never done a snowy scene before, really, so this was a fun challenge. Plus this is an awfully cute muse of mine, who manifests as in a few different forms in Full Circle. S/He hasn't shown up yet, but s/he will. But this is what hir spirit looks like.

I keep meaning to post more about character development in this comm, but keep drawing blanks. I've spread myself a bit thin lately too, which doesn't help. But really, if you'd like to see more content over here asking questions and leaving comments helps cause it's then easier to think of things to say. :) I do believe though that the little commentary bits here are helpful in revealing some of the character and world development work that's been done on Full Circle, as well as letting it come out in the story.

Also, I know the chat box on the site is dead. We need to replace it. It doesn't get much use, so we're taking our time. We'd like to redo the whole site, and are currently giving that thought. Again I'm spread pretty thin, so thanks for your patience there!

Just a heads up, even though the comic is up on the 21st and I usually do an announcement with commentary here along with, I won't be this time because I'm participating in the One Day March 21st LJ strike. I will, however, post commentary on the 22nd. :) The comic should be up on time in any case.

I'm really really pleased with how this page turned out. This is how I plan to do the Dark Ath. background from now on, this method. I'm gonna practice capturing the atmosphere of the other Athenaeums before we get there in the comic so I don't do the whole sketchy all over the place thing again. Speaking of sketchy though, I'm including some rough sketches of Eryk's father in this update today, as I've had him on the brain and he's fun to draw. :)

KW and I do a lot of past life/alternate version stories to explore our characters more in depth. Lots of "what ifs". We've been writing on one recently to explore a couple of characters, basically one of the "What would happen if these two hooked up? What circumstances would lead to that and how would it go?" sorts. But as so often happens with these things... it turned out to be much more enlightening about a whole 'nother character that was meant to be a supporting role. You never know, sometimes, who will take over a story and how.

Eryk is actually an example of this. The very first story related to Full Circle I ever wrote, years and years ago, was actually about Adrian's parents and his family, as well as Eryk's mother. When she had children, he was just one of them and certainly not the one I expected to be pivotal. But he really came to life, spoke up, moved me, and proved to be more ambitious and striking than I ever could have imagined. He was the first character, I think, that moved me to tears. When I'd initially come up with him, he was just a crabby young redhead side character. Now, the story more or less revolves around him.

You can't always know who will leap off the page, take over the plot, and steal your heart. Sometimes, you're in for surprises. That's what I love best about writing an ongoing series. There's so much I want to know, and so much I'm caught off guard by. I look forward to the day when we have the chance to catch you guys up much faster on all of these lives and personalities. But I suppose the beauty of taking it slow is that even those characters we think we know well... we'll know even better by the time they appear in the comic.

In this case - we're just learning a lot about Eryk's father through another incarnation of his. The Aye Aye. He's made one brief appearance in the comic, and I thought I had a good read on him but wow... there's a lot more to him that I didn't realize. You learn something new every day.
