Title: Not in Front of the Children
Author: Veleda_k
Author's Notes: I was playing with a random word generator, and got the word "expletive." Somehow, this came about. My brain is diseased.

Hisoka looked at the strange, blobby things and glared. Watari could make whatever twisted creations he wanted, as long as they didn't make trouble for Hisoka.

This definitely counted as trouble.

"Daddy! Daddy!" The bizarrely adorable blobs crowded around his legs.

"I am not your daddy! Dammit!" he spat.

"Hisoka!" Tsuzuki looked horrified. "Not in front of our children! You'll be a terrible example if you don't--Ah! No! Domestic abuse will create a horrible environment! They won't be able to form healthy relationships later in life!"

In the corner, Watari shook his head. "Those kids will need years of therapy."

Spoilers: King of Swords arc
Author's Notes: Don't die on me, community!

Rediscovering the boy is a pleasant surprise. He expects to once again take pleasure in those terrified emerald eyes, that trembling porcelain body. He doesn't expect the fury or the steely resolve. He becomes intrigued.

On their third meeting, the boy stares him in the eyes without flinching, and even goes so far as to challenge him. The boy leaves thinking he's won, not realizing that the game has just begun.

He leaves the boy with a gravely injured Tsubaki-hime, already knowing how the lovers tragedy will play out.

“I'll make something of you yet,” he whispers.

There hasn't been a new challenge the past few weeks because your admin has been doing the medical rounds. I'm still hip deep in doctor's appointments. Challenge posts will commence when I'm once again spending more time asleep than in waiting rooms.

Feel free to check back through the archives for older topics, if you're in need of inspiration. This would also be a great time to tag your old posts. *G*

This week's challenge is Attention.

Old Challenges

Drabbles on past topics are always welcome. Be sure to include the challenge topic in your subject line, headers, or both. Post unrelated drabbles separately. You can post up to five drabbles together in one post if they are a series.

Thank you to those of you who have been suggesting additional topics. More are always welcome! To suggest a topic, comment here.

In order to make it easier to find past posts, I am implementing a tagging system. When posting a drabble to the community, please include the following tags: "c: the challenge to which you're posting," "a: your pen name." To avoid hitting the 1,000 tag limit, don't tag posts with pairings or characters, just the challenge and your pen name. If you're posting a non-challenge drabble, please tag it "c: none." Please comment here if you're in need of clarification.

One True Relationship
Title: Life's Precious Jewels
Author: Veleda ([info]veleda_k)
Spoilers: King of Swords arc
Author's Notes: They were so sweet before they became horrifically doomed. Written for [info]femslash100.

Eileen stands at the edge of the room, terrified. The people around her glitter and gleam, and every woman is wearing jewelry worth more than Eileen has seen in her life.

"Eileen! Why are you alone?" Tsubaki-hime runs up to her, her diamond necklace glimmering. She frowns when she sees Eileen's misery. "Aren't you having fun?"

Eileen shakes her head. "I don't belong here," she says softly.

Tsubaki-hime puts her hands on her hips. "Nonsense. You're the prettiest girl here." She smiles. "Dance with me."

As she allows herself to be led, Eileen thinks that Tsubaki-hime's smile is prettier than any gem.

Title: Logic
Author: Veleda
Spoilers: Kamakura arc
A/N: I'm writing stuff! Of course, I should be doing homework, but, uh, so what?

Nagare decides early on that there is no point in visiting the boy in the hospital. It isn't as if he can accomplish anything, after all.

It's best to act as if the child (no, not child, abomination) is already dead. A clean break is better than watching his son (it, there is no merit in thinking of it as his son) waste away in slow agony. Besides, the boy is a monster and too weak to even live long enough to die properly. He isn't worth missing.

Nagare's gut twists, and he wishes that his heart could agree with his logic

Title: I Can Lead You

Challenge: Fairy Tales
Author's Notes: Here, have a mash-up. Another one for the [info]fuda_100 theme of "fairy tales." Title taken from George's "The Track Through the Woods."

~~~~
At night, the full moon calls to him. Hisoka slips from his ageless bed, dresses in the dark, walks out to where the sakura flowers ceaselessly. There's a sliver of moon waiting there for him, jagged-edged.
"They say the moon drowned once," Muraki murmurs, face upturned beneath it, both white as something long dead. Hisoka says nothing, and Muraki lowers his head with a smile. "Will it be drowning tonight, I wonder?"
He walks off among the trees. Hisoka follows, dropping neither stones nor breadcrumbs, leaving no trail forward or back.
This far into the wood, there's no way out.
Challenge: Fairy Tales
Author's Notes: Oh, look, another double drabble inspired by an Andersen fairy tale from yours truly. Try to hide your surprise. Betaed by elizacakeEliza.
~~~~

The oni built a mirror once, made it of spite to reflect all the things they hated in the world, which was everything. Then they squabbled over what to do with it and it slipped from their fingers and broke, shards scattering on the wind.

Those shards struck any number of people, working their way under skin, into eyes and hearts. They magnified the flaws of whatever they reflected. When pointed outward, that meant family and friends, and those people grew cruel and hateful, withdrawing from their loved ones. When pointed inward, that meant people were forced to see their own evil. Most died of what they saw.

Not all the ghosts were left to rest, however, and one man, good and kind, was made to reap the dead until his tears flushed out the splinter obscuring his vision. He was too kind, however, and the splinter was lodged deep, and while he prayed for forgiveness, he thought himself unworthy. Nor could he let the love of his friends console him, when he saw only his flaws.

When he could bear no more, he began to pray instead for numbness. Winter heard him. He didn't resist when its ambassador came.
