Seriously, be lucky you even have presents.

Fuck the ungrateful brats who are complaining that they didn't get anything for Christmas. I got underwear and socks as well, and I'm grateful that my parents even put in the EFFORT to shop. My mom could have said anytime that she wasn't buying anything, but she did. You know why? Last year we didn't even celebrate because my mom was SICK. She had just come home from the hospital and it was too late to buy anything, and you know what? I spent the day taking care of her and I ended up making dinner because I'm damn lucky she's alive.

So to all the kids here whinging "Oh, fuck my mom for only buying me socks and underwear!" Fuck off and die. If you hate your gifts so goddamn much, why don't you donate your gifts to people who will appreciate them, instead of crying about it???

I love it when my mom buys me functional stuff. That means I can spend my money on frivilous crap I really want instead of spending $40 on another freaking bra.
However, I am 30 and have been screaming about the price of underwear and socks for some time now...

Totally OT but...$40 for a bra?

*suddenly feels very sheltered to be buying all her socks/underwear/bras at Kmart, now*

*random*

I dunno about the first commentor, but I am very busty, and good bras (those that actually support me) are...not cheap.

Good bras run from $30-45. I don't buy anything cheaper or more expensive. I used to buy my bras for $15 from places like Kmart too, but they're shitty. It's just better to invest in something that will last a while. I literally bought a bra from one of those places and one of the straps broke a week later.

When you get over a D you usually have only specialty shops to go to.
Unless you want cups that lose their shape, wires that break and try to pierce delicate bits, or straps that feel like their slicing your shoulders because they weren't meant to support the weight of natural breasts, they were meant to show off unnaturally perky implants, not actually do anything.
I hate bras and I hate spending my money on them.

As I got older, the thought of getting something for Christmas was no logner exciting. Now I get all tingly with anticipation when I buy other people presents. After 21, giving is much more fun than getting.

And I feel you. My mom passed away a few months before Christmas back in 2002. I really miss the spirit she brought into our Christmas. It just hasn't felt the same since.

Amen!! I remember last year how mad I was when my dad got me a 10 dollar bible for Christmas. Now he's dead and I wish we had spent more xmasses just being together. Fuck presents, I just wish my stingy dad was still alive.

*big sigh* You know, I actually kind of sympathize with the people who are upset.

It may be petty, but you know what? It's human emotion. We're all petty sometimes.

This year for Christmas, my dad got me a flamberge. I have had a sword collection for many years now, and for every gift giving holiday we do, I get a sword or something similar.

This year, what I really, really wanted was the flamberge. I never said this directly. I would rattle off a list of various swords I was interested in, and flamberge was always on the list, though the others changed. And my dad got it for me. I was delighted, not just because it's a wicked cool sword, but because he made the effort and paid attention and got me what I really wanted the most.

That is a wonderful feeling. And while I love my grandparents and my aunts and uncles and everyone else in my family, none of what they got me has the same feeling of "I love you and I really want to make you happy."

So if you go through an entire Christmas and get gifts that all feel like the reason you got it is because they took the gifts and drew names out of a hat, that's disappointing. Maybe it's petty, but it hurts anyway.

So maybe we can lay off the other ranters for a while?
