We are a community of Otherkin based on the description of "Otakukin" brought about by kinjouten, though "your mileage may vary" certainly applies here.

Our goal online is to provide a resource for those who believe their soul/s is/are anime, game, book, or other fictional-medium derived. This can take many forms. Often it can mean that one is highly connected to a fictional character, fictional setting or race in some way to the point that they need to express it in a way that doesn't make assumptions about reality.

The goal of this community is to provide a forum for such beliefs in a way that doesn't make presumptions about them. Only through sharing can one liberate their hearts and figure themselves out, as we live in an era where many are introspective but very few are given aid or meaningful support in that endeavor, and definitely not when it comes to the sort of phenomenon surrounding Fictionkin/Mediakin/Otakin/Otakukin.

Rules:

1. I'm not going to insult your intelligence by telling you not to flame other people, respect each other's opinions, etc. etc. THAT SHOULD BE VERY BASIC BY NOW. If you cannot be civil or not-flame, please contact your ISP and tell them not to let you near a computer the rest of your human life so we can avoid that hassle.

-- On basic respect, real quick: Try to be civil if someone just poured their heart out.

-- On arguments, debates, whatever: There is a time and place for everything. Your opinions are valued but if you're hormonal, going to explode in a fiery pile of rage, or have no idea what you're talking about, you might want to take a deep breath, look over what you've written or maybe not reply at all.


2. This community was originally for those who believe themselves to be fictionkin/mediakin/otakin, however we accept Soulbonders with Bonds from fictional sources, people who are unsure or the plain old curious folks. A good description lies here by the person who even coined the phrase to begin with. As long as you're respectful, play nice and don't act like a gossiping troll, you'll be fine.


3. Some SPECIFIC Otherkin restrictions! Sorry if you find these unreasonable, but dammit, respect them!

-- If you're a Multiple or Soulbond or something with multiple LJ accounts for each of your personalities, only ONE journal is welcome to Otakin. If you must make a "general" LJ for all of them just to join this community, then so be it.

-- Avoid nitpicking another's interpretation of the same myth. If someone mistakenly calls themselves an (anime) Sylph when in fact everything they describe is Pixie-derived then contact them privately and discuss it there. While it is true many Otherkin have stuff that is violently inaccurate, try to keep your frustration to a minimum. Don't forget that what you're arguing about cannot be proved one way or another in the physical realm! This also applies to stuff made up that is paralleled by myth.

-- Keep mundane-bashing to a minimum.

-- No one has "property" on a character. If someone says they're Squall from Final Fantasy 8, and someone else joins claiming to be Squall, you're not allowed to play childish games to try and edge out the other. Pretend parallelities exist, even if you don't want to. Technically no one has ownership of any of the content except their "rightful" "legal" owners.

-- On that note... Any disagreement on astral/dimensional physics is to be resolved on scientific principals and calm debate. If the physics of either argument have no scientific base, the debate will be considered totally moot. Some of you may not like this world, but it's going to be the line of reference this community is using.

-- If you feel someone is flaming you, harassing you, or being a general asshat, please try to deal with it on your own in a calm manner. If that doesn't work, bring it to the attention of a moderator. (Click here to go to the screened Complaints post.) Please remember that not all debates will be friendly, some people come off stronger than they intend/have aggressive personalities, and that everyone has a different sensitivity level... things will be dealt with as best as possible, but not every person in the comm will be 100% satisfied with everything 100% of the time. Deal with it.

-- Memberships are subject to termination without warning. No one will be removed "just because", but if someone is suspicious (as in a potential troll) or if someone continuously causes problems, then they may be removed. People who are removed can message the maintainers to discuss their removal, if they received no warning.

This sounded harsher than I wanted to make it sound, but rest assured that the maintainers are reasonable people and we just want everyone to have a happy and good time while with us. We just want to avoid pitfalls that Otherkin communities are vulnerable to.
