After a whole year of inactivity, I've cooked up an update for my website From Fiction with three new articles. A rant about time between universes impact on rebirth, an article about kin group dynamics, which I encourage everyone to read, and a Review of Miracle on 34th Street as a pro-kin movie.
I'm posting this to my journal, and the other community as well, so apologies to those of you who see it three times.

I wonder, how many communities of 'kin-related stuff are started as parodies by people who don't believe in it but end up attracting people who do take it seriously. I know that there's the Pokeclipse forum, which was a parody of the Digiclipse forum but ended up with real Pokemon believers thinking it was something real. Are there any other cases of that sort of thing happening?

| Pop Culture, God, and Fictionkin |

I've been thinking a lot lately about creation. Humans are in the position of both creating their own culture/pop culture and being creations of something else. While the world outside us tends to be considered the most important part of our existence by a lot of philosophers and such, we spend much more of our time thinking about the world we create, probably because we can contain it in our minds better. Science and psychology essentially make up what we can get about the world created by some form of outside entities. Philosophy and religion address our place in the universe too but do more to build new manmade constructs than to give an explanation of the natural world. Everything else we talk and think about, art and technology and civilization and everything they impact, are essentially our creations. Most philosophies and religions try to simultaneously make the world make sense and humble us about our place in it, but it's kind of hard to humble ourselves when we can look at ourselves "in God's image" forever without ever really thinking much about God.
Perhaps the otherkin/fictionkin theory that everything we create is in some way natural in another world fulfills the goals of both humbling us, making us realize our creations aren't entirely our own, and trying to apply the big picture to the pop culture we center our lives around.

I think the main issue there is with the whole concept of fictionkin isn't the interplanar reincarnation bit, which makes a decent amount of sense, but rather the certainty aspect. Not that we claim to be 100% sure of everything, but most people who believe in reincarnation don't have any idea what their previous lives were, so I guess "past life memories" in general come off as suspicious. Ultimately I think that's why I'm feeling less connected to these beliefs. I still work with my facets in sort of a totemistic fashion, but the idea of knowing past lives is starting to trouble me a bit. Either I'm crazy or I'm right, but in either way I'm not in the most comfortable circumstances.

Two nights ago, I had a vision of myself shortly after the start of the Meiji. I was talking with some sort of teacher about how to face the changes that were going on in the world. It was very clear at the time, and thus it felt like a memory. Now I forget most of the details, and my other memories have stayed very clear, so I'm leaning towards thinking it was just a pretty powerful dream.
How do you tell the difference between memories and dreams? |

Thanks to a discussion about bilocation the other day, I've found myself thinking about parallel lives.
It seems like most of the people have had past lives, but does anyone here have a parallel life?
If so, are you the same age?
Does time pass at the same rate?
How aware are your "other selves" of your life here?
If it's a "fictional" life have you ever used information available here to give you an advantage there? (example: Reading about an event that happens in the future and working to prevent it from happening)
Sorry if that's too many questions, it's just an interesting subject for me.

Might not seem like a pleasant idea, but from what I've heard it's more critical of /b/tards than otakukin and being such a loose adaptation, it's focused more on a character arc of a 'kin girl leaving the group and deciding to use her memories and beliefs for living a more productive life. Supposedly it's gotten a little bit of press/controversy online.

If you're a writer, you might want to try submitting a story or essay to Expanded Horizons , a new e-zine dedicated to publishing speculative fiction (sci-fi, fantasy, horror, etc.) from underrepresented perspectives. Currently I'm working on a story about an Aspie's reaction to a bombing at an autism cure center. It seems that in particular they're interested in getting otherkin/fictionkin stuff out there so if you can write anything about that I'm sure they'd love it.

For me, my life as Issun was much lighter than some of my others, with Kenshin being way too traumatic for me to ever wish to relive (though I still miss Sanosuke).

| Otakukin Murder Mystery Movie |

Note: if you steal these ideas of mine and make your own movie of them, you'll be in big trouble.
So, yeah. I think I should make a movie dedicated to all the crazies and weirdos in the world. Basic concept so far: in a quickly commercializing moderate-conservative suburban town, a serial killer is murdering accountants. These murders happen to exactly mirror the actions of a TV vigilante superhero. The police have linked the killer to an internet forum, and have sent a cop to try to get leads from the forum moderator. The cop distrusts the moderator, who claims to be the reincarnation of the villain on this superhero TV show. Interestingly, not only is the moderator a great friend and help to the cop, but the killer has never even seen the TV show the world believes he's imitating. Suspicious of the cop's friendship with the mod, the chief of police sends a spy into the forum. The members of the forum manage to meet up at an anime convention, where the spy manages to bring in a gang that attacks the mod. Uncertain of the outcome of this plan, the chief of police finds enough loopholes in the law to send to the spy to blow up a Confucian temple. When in court, the spy, which the jury believes to be otakukin, he testifies that there's a cult-like conspiracy that the mod is the head of. The killer ends up helping the chief of police catch the moderator, who is sentenced to the death penalty. The cop is terrified and unsure how he is supposed to go about letting the true killer go free while his friend died. The cop ends up in a mental institution. Making matters more confusing is the fact he has bonded with the vengeful ghost of the moderator. I don't really know how to end it (I don't want a full-on tragedy, but I'm having trouble writing a happy ending). What do you think?

If all of this reincarnation stuff is real, it'd make sense for there to be a lot more fictionkin than have awakened. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that in order to get through with their current lives, for most people awakening isn't necessary. I think each of us who remembers past lives must have some reason for remembering that information in this life. Do you have any idea what that reason is, either in general or just in your specific case?

Hi there. ^.^ I have made a website with my own personal reflections on what being fictionkin means to me and a place for my memories and theories. It's called Unearthly. A site for wandering souls. Right now it is mostly my memories and stuff but I will be adding more stuff soon. Special thanks to Miranda, Jaime, Haven and everyone else who has helped me deal with coming to terms with all this, both the good stuff and the bad. I hope everyone likes the page. It is all my personal reflections, 100% by me (except for the linkware hehe)
There is also going to be blinkies and icons on the site, and if anyone wants a custom one then just let me know cuz I love making them ^.^

| A Memory |

I hope it is okay for me to post this here. It is in my personal journal too but since it concerns being ota or fictionkin, Jaime suggested I also post it here. Maybe someone has similar memories. I know that's really really unlikely that anyone here came from my world, but you never know and maybe someone will find it interesting or something. As I mentioned in my last post, I'm from ::wince:: Battle Royale and here I'm talking a little bit about what it was like before the program.
This came from a conversation between me and Miranda. She was talking about school on Erene and wanted to know what school used to be like for me, so we were basically comparing school then and now. Maybe Miranda will post about her school. It is certainly more cheerful.

Is there anyone else around who comes from the manga, book, or film versions of Battle Royale? We've been reading more and more about fickin and have been thinking that maybe Emi might do better if she could talk to someone who had similar experiences. This hasn't been a real pleasant six months or so...
