I finally got the prototypes done for the new product idea I had....flaxseed pillows for pets. There are two sizes: The small pillow is approx. 5" x 7", and the large one is approx. 8" x 11". The flaxseed piloow itself is made of muslin (or cotton plaid), and stuffed with organic flaxseed and just a light touch of lavender (so as not to overwhelm sensitive noses). The cover is faux shearling and 100% cotton flannel, which can be taken off the pillow and machine washed/dried. The small pillows are the perfect size for kittens, small dogs, and other small animals. It's just the right size to tuck into one of those fancy pet purses to keep your tiny friend warm. The large size is good for larger dogs and adult cats. They can provide safe, relaxing heat for pets suffering from joint/muscle pain, keeping them warm while in transit, helping to maintain body temps for newborn kittens, or even just keep that tiny lap dog from shivering all the time!

For right now, I'm sticking with just a basic lavender pillow. I'm still researching herbs that are pet safe that animals would actually like. I do not want to use pennyroyal because I've heard too many conflicting reports about the toxicity of it. I have found other alternatives for herbal flea repellents. I have to take into consideration that pets may try to chew on these, so I have to be careful with the herbs I choose.
I do have other flannel patterns available if anyone is interested. I'm thinking $15 for the small pillow and $28 for the large - does that seem reasonable for the amount of work involved?
Could use some feedback on these, please, before I attempt to make any more of them. They are a bit more work than the regular flaxseed pillows, because I have to make both the pillow and the cover. (and yes, I've considered making covers for the regular flaxseed pillows - it's on the project list. *grin*)

I finally have a bunch of flannel pillows ready. However, do to limited supplies, I will fill each flaxseed pillow to order. Choose from the following designs, then either the Sleeping Goddess Blend (for relaxation), or Sweet Relief Blend (for muscle aches and pains). I will then fill it and send it on its merry way!
Pillows are $24 each.
Shipping for one pillow is $5 via Priority Mail. I *think* I can fit two pillows in a small Priority Mail box. Three or more pillows will be $9 shipping Priority Mail Flat Rate. The pillows have at least 1-2 lbs of flaxseed in them, so this is most likely the cheapest way to ship.
On to the pretty fabrics!!

I was finally able to get a bag of organic flaxseed so I can make more of the large flaxseed pillows, plus another idea I have that I haven't had a chance to work on yet. At the moment, I can't add new items to my Etsy shop, so if anyone is interested in the large flaxseed pillows in either the "Sleeping Goddess" or "Sweet Relief" blends, let me know. They are $24.00 each plus $5.00 Priority Mail shipping. I can either choose a flannel pattern for you, or give me a couple of color choices. They'll be shipped out sometime next week since I'll be making them to order.
Still plenty of catnip toys, too!
Any little bit of business helps, since I'll have to take out a second morgage to put gas in the car....and I have plans in the works for a rewards program of sorts for friends that take the time to pimp out my shop. :)

| 01:10 am - Your cats will no longer have to prowl the streets for their nip fix....
I'm bringing back the (in)famous herbal kitty toys, redesigned, and the herbal blend reformulated so humans as well as cats will enjoy the scent. If anyone remembers my original kitty toys from a few years back, they were cute, but they were, uh, potent. And not in a good way, at least for humans, but the cats went berzerk over them. I tweaked the blend so now the cats still go nuts, but they don't smell like ass anymore. ;)
They will be up on the Etsy shop tomorrow (3/12/08), sold as(themed)two packs. I even have pirate themed ones for those that don't care for uber-cute kitty toys. I'm hoping, if they sell well enough, that for every three sets sold, I'll donate one set to the Animal Coalition of Delaware County. I have an idea for another pet item, that I'll try to get the materials for within the next week or so.
