Not so Newbee

Hey all, I’m new to the LJ but not to Freelancer. I’m running through it for about my 4th or 5th time but until now,(with much poking and prodding from my wife) I never thought to join a community.

I’ve played a number of the available mods for the game but always come back to the original. The mods seem to lack a certain balance or charm.

So far all of the MP that I’ve tried has ended in frustration. The servers are always under populated and the lag is annoying as hell. Watching the enemy ships jerk around and seeing my own missiles come up behind me a second or two after I fire them gets on my nerves. (help with this would be greatly appreciated.) Anyway I didn’t make this post to rant. I save that for my own LJ.

I’m currently working on a fan fic, or two, or ten… I’m also working on some original stuff inspired by freelancer and X2.

Well enough for now. Feel free to drop by my LJ. It’s just getting started so doesn’t have anything on it yet, but I need friends. (sniff…)

I've been playing some multiplayer Freelancer again after a long break, it's pretty fun. Although the Bounty Hunters really hate me :)

View Poll: Freelancer PvP

Personally, I'd rather play on servers where you can't hurt other players. Ideally, it would be some option you could pick during the game, but once you go hostile towards other players, you can't go back. That would let you get a chance to get some decent gear before going after other players instead of the AI.

Question

Does anyone know if it's possible to destroy docking rings and battleships and the like? Because the Liberty Navy got pissed at me when I tried to smuggle artifacts to Manhattan, and now that I have an Eage armed with rare Rheinland Level 10 weapons (picked up from junked ships) I feel like getting my revenge... MUA HA HA! So can anyone help me out here? I really want to kick their butts.

Hey, gang. If you guys are still alive and reading, I wanted to point out a nice Freelancer community/server/dobobber that I'm just getting into, because it needs more activity, damnit.

BattleClinic.com has a nice, speedy server, and a neat mod in the works to make more of the in-game ships flyable - all it's missing is players! Come play, I demands it! Look for Petrova on the forums, and FL_Petrova in-game, and that'll be me. Say hi, we'll form a wing and run some cargo or something, it'll be fun!

How to be bad?

I picked up Freelancer and only played the SP version for a short while before I decided to hop on the MP bandwagon. ^^;; I couldn't wait... what can I say?

Anyhow... I've managed to get myself a decent ship. Civilian Eagle VHF.

But now I got my sites set on the Sabre... But the outcasts, of course, hate me.

And so do just about all their allies. I never really paid any attention to the influence I was gaining, good or bad, as I went along exploring the systems.

But now I'm stuck... trying to figure out what the best way is to gain influence with the Outcasts so I can pick me up one of those spiffy ships they have. *grin*

So... has anyone had to do this? Any suggestions?

Hey, gang.

I've just gotten myself into the multiplayer scene, primarily on PlayersPlanet.com's server (-==PlayersPlanet.com==- or something similar in the server list), but I was wondering what servers you guys used.
Trade routes

I found one half of a decent trade route this morning - buy Beryllium at Kensington Shipping Platform for less than 200, and sell it at either Newark (for 960) or Pueblo Station (for 1020). I'm not sure what can be done on the return trip, because I was getting tired and finally went to bed.

Btw, the traderoute database on the Freelancer Portal page doesn't seem to be quite accurate. But that could be from a typo - Planet Manahttan doesn't buy Luxury Consumer goods for 1200, I think it buys them at 120. Big difference for trade runs ;) Maybe later on, when I've explored everything, I might make my own traderoute database. Assuming, of course, that the option of randomizing commodity prices for a universe doesn't come into existence by then. Ideally when you create a server for the first time, with an option to randomize it again automatically after a certain amount of time, or manually.

Also, it seems that people are at least working on editing Freelancer files. Here's hoping that mods are in the near future!

Freelancer Impressions

I've been playign the single player game, and finished it (I think). If it was the end it was kinda abrupt.

I was really impressed with the last few missions. The enviroments were amazing! And the Dyson's Sphere was so huge to be nearly unimaginable! I'd lik eto go back and fly around it exploring. The thing that I didn't like was that even though I seemed to be a part of their new navy, I still had to pay for things but didn't have much cash for the last assault, so I went in without too many missles and the like. You would think that for a final assault, they wouldn't have been stingy with the ordinance. The end itself seems too pat. A wormhole opens and all the Nomads get sucked into it? From everywhere in the galaxy? What is to keep them from coming back? One thing I did like was that they left it open for new storylines. I'm hopingthey come out with more since the single player version (if it does end with the removal of the Nomads) was only around 20 hours.

Since everything including the cut-scenes, is done in the game-engine, I would suspect that it should be easy to add new content, so hopefully we will see some add-ons soon with new adventures.

One thing that confused me was the reputation stuff. It seemed like all of a sudden some group hated me and another one loved me. Without much rhyme or reason. I can understand that a lot of it is scripted, but it just threw out the whole value of building up a reputation. Maybe that gets more practical use in the multiplayer. Another thing with the reputation levels is that I would think if it is that important, that you could buy a new transponder ID or the like for your ship so people wouldn't know it was you.

I want to go back through the game and see what happens if you turn down the original jobs, and see if you can join the Liberty Rouges and become a pirate or something similar.

Well, I might as well post something to this new community :)

Check out the userinfo for this community for a couple of links to sites about this game.

I've been sort of playing the story missions so far in single player, with breaks for exploring and doing trade runs. I found a pretty decent and short run near the beginning of the game, which could help increase your credits fairly easily. It's between Planet Cambridge and Planet Leeds - hauling Optronics from Leeds to Cambridge, and Diamonds from Cambridge back to Leeds. There is a profit of a few hundred credits on each piece of cargo, so even with a limited cargo space of 25 or so with a fighter, you can make some decent cash for that area of the game.

Of course, this is assuming that the commodity listings are the same across all single player games. If anybody can verify this, it would be appreciated :) If so, hopefully it's more random in multiplayer, as it would encourage more exploration.
