As I'm heading off to Slovenia later today until into the new year, I thought I'd better post my end of year round up before I leave (for the airport, in two hours, still haven't finished packing...PRIORITIES, ALEX). Kudos to all of you who are doing 'Best of the Decade' posts, to be frank, I can't remember shit that happened last year, just doing 2009 was difficult enough for me, so I salute you. But anyway... 2009: THE YEAR THAT WAS or, as it was commonly known in these parts, FUCK YOU NBCCCCCCCCCCC As with last year's post, it's essentially a big fandom round-up of the things that made me happy this year, broken down category by category. I try to limit myself to top fives where I can, for sanity's sake :D ( THE YEAR OF GERMAN AWESOMENESS... )This has been an awesome year in fandom, TY all for sharing it with me. OFF TO LJUBLJANA I GO.

Oh gheeze, guys. I've been snowed into this house since Christmas Eve. My sister decided to rent a HOTEL ROOM with a pool so she could get the kids out. Also an lol: the main interstates in Fargo, ND are closed and no travel is advised even on the roads that are open (they are few) but the MALL opened at 11 a.m. this morning. CAPITALISM SOLDIERS ON, BITCHES! /sarcasm. Seriously really? If people want to be crazy enough to drive that's their business, but what about the employees at these places? They have to risk their lives to show up to work just so YOU get your Christmas deal? Now to be fair, this was the mall that made the decision that it would at least be open, I'm sure that there were individual stores that didn't bother to call their employees in, but seriously try and use your brains!
Additionally after having the news flitter into the computer room: I AM SO TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT THIS NORTHWEST BOMBING. This isn't part of some resurgent al-Qaida plot. And additionally TSA/DoD/NSA/etc, please don't pretend like your new measures are going to catch anyone. If someone wants to get something through, they'll get it through. College students hired by you to find the gaping holes in your strategy get through all the time. And no access to carry on or bathrooms an hour after takeoff and an hour before landing? Boy let me tell you a great way to get around that, they're going to BLOW THE PLANE UP IN BETWEEN THE WINDOW. God if we want to save millions of dollars a year in this country we could disband that joke of an organization! Flying is always a risk, from crash and burning, to having pilots zone out and miss the airport, to terrorism. Why are people willing to pay millions for the illusion of security? I don't understand this place some days. *sad face*
How was y'all's Christmas? I'm trying to get caught up with everyone's LJ posts. :)

Yes, this year I actually wrote and posted some! 7737 words of them in spite of my severe mental block on writing about stuff I actually like. Mainly BSG with a tiny bit of X Files, with an almost shippy M/S thing much to my surprise.
( 7 Ficlets, 1 Oneshot, 1 WIP and a partridge in a pear tree )
Maybe next year I'll be able to shut up even more of those damn plot bunnies that continue to plague me.

I hope everyone's yesterday was suitably splendiferous; I had a very nice time, and got a watch from my parents which makes me feel alarmingly adult. My thoughts on Doctor Who are pretty much everyone else's (OH CRIBBINS), and I assume next week is going to a big 'un. Meep and/or argh. Bloody Rusty.
Mainly, though, I have been going YULETIDE YULETIDE OMG. I received Dandelion, a rather lovely Imagine Me & You story, in which Rachel is a believably complex and contradictatory mass of feelings, Luce does fantastic things with flowers, and Heck is as wonderful as he ever is, i.e. very. ( RECS RECS RECS RECS )
TENANTMAS CONTINUES APACE; Hamlet is on in like half an hour. SO EXCITED.
How are you? ♥

Merry Christmas, all!! Well technically it is December 26th now, but whatever. ACTUALLY, today is now my LJ's birthday!! So happy seventh (?!) birthday, journal. Clogging the Internet up with femslash squee since '02 and all. ;) This seems like a good time to thank you, my loyal (??) readers, I really do hope you get something out of all my gayness randomness. HERE HAVE A PRESENT:

(Currently my desktop background, haha, which still makes me weak in the knees every time I see it!)
So Christmas. Talk about mood swings... I haven't been this mood-swingy in a long fucking time. I did my best to make the day special for myself, but without the feel of the season (damn SoCal) or being with family, the whole thing feels painfully arbitrary. A sole day off between two intense weeks of holiday retail work. I did listen to a lot of Christmas music (I love the stuff, the more traditional the better) which helped put me in the mood a bit, but mostly just led to a lot of crying. Okay, the music wasn't the only thing that induced the crying, but I'm sure it contributed. And it was weird, because I've been crying off and on for the past ~30 hours, but the feeling behind it kept changing. Some nostalgia, some loneliness, some touched, some moved, some depression... very strange. And kind of hard to keep up.
So I woke up, made coffee and cinnamon rolls, opened presents that family and friends had sent me (which was admittedly a lot of fun... I think I even stopped crying at one point, haha), talked to my mom on the phone for a bit which was also surprisingly nice, and then went to the movies! TWICE! First I saw It's Complicated, which was generally your typical Nancy Meyers fare, but the performances were pretty great. The best was the part where Meryl's character gets really stoned, LMFAO OMG. <333 Then I came home and made some eggs for dinner and watched the first half of The Two Towers (BEST FILM IN THE TRILOGY - ROHAN, BITCHES!!).
A few hours later I journeyed out to a different theater to see New Moon again - shut up, IT IS CHRISTMAS AND I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT. And I wanted Kristen Stewart, alright! Unsurprisingly, I liked it more and it made more sense after having read the book (I'm currently 240 pages into Eclipse, for those following along at home). Um, let me just say though, I had to literally shove my fist into my mouth whenever Alice and Bella made eye contact to keep from squeeing like a crazy person in the theater. I thought I was gonna bite my freaking hand off!! HOW ARE THEY SO PRETTY, YOU GUYS??? Also, I will freely admit that all the scenes of Bella waking up screaming from her nightmares seriously melted my heart into a puddle. GAH I JUST WANT TO HOLD HER AND PET HER HAIR AND TELL HER THAT EVERYTHING WILL BE ALL RIGHT. (The movies are seriously missing the more gloriously delicious h/c bits from the books. Grr.) I still wish that Kristen would, you know, shed a tear every once in awhile, but I know it's asking for a lot. (C'mon kid, you can do it!! Emote!!!)
I wish New Moon's closing credits were awesome like Twilight's and not just super lame. Fail there. Oh yeah, and BELLA MOODTHEME GUYS. I'm sure I'll add a header eventually. The world is officially coming to an end...

OH GOD YOU GUYS.
1) A (very) late Merry Christmas/respective winter holiday to my FList. This year has been so insane for me and I can't even begin to think about how much I've changed/my life had changed, nevermind all y'all who I haven't been able to keep up with AT. ALL. I hope everything is going amazingly, or at least tolerably, and I can't wait to get my self into gear again and figure out what I've been missing.
2) SHERLOCK MOTHERFUCKING HOLMES. Oh Christ, so amazing. I just. I need to sit down and hold my head between my knees for a little while to keep from passing out. Just for a few minutes. Oh my god, you guys. Watson was so smart. I almost cried. Their unwavering b/romance is literally the entire point and just. Oh god, I can't even--
Also, my sisters gave me a sparkly unicorn for Christmas. I have never received a more apt gift in my entire life.
