I'm happy to report that FoundArt is back up and running once again! Our Gallery isn't reloaded yet, but it will be soon. The other new features that had been added to the site before it went down will be reinstalled. The basic features are available and ready for visits.

Yiippee!!!

Good News! [28 Jan 2005|02:54pm]

The data files for my Found Art site have been retrieved. Yippee!!! I was
holding my breath there for a while.

The site is being re-installed on another server. The earliest it could be
available is Monday, but it may not be ready until later in the week. I'm just happy that it will be able to be live again!

Some of you may have noticed that the Found Art site has been down for a couple of days. This time it wasn't due to hackers. This has been due to a server failure. The servers rented by my hosting company have physically failed and the owner of the servers refused to replace the server.

If you just got lost in the techno-jargon above, the situation is like having the harddrive on your computer fail and the manufacturer refuses to repair it. There's no way for you to get to the data on your computer, but the manufacturer can retreive the data, for a fee.

At this time I'm in the process of requesting the server company to send me the data for my site. I'm hoping he won't be as uncooperative in this request as he was in the request of repairing the server. As my site isn't the only site on the server that
failed, he'll be looking at being sued for holding our data hostage if he doesn't comply with our requests.

In the meantime, I'm looking for another host for the site so that as soon as the data is retrieved, Found Art can be up and running again.

Please pass this news on to others you know who are members of Found Art but not members of this Live Journal Community. The site may be down for another week (hopefully not more) as everything gets sorted out. I'll keep you all up to date via this Community. Please send out your powerful, creative energy so that this all works out...and fast! ;-)

My e-mail address at shari@found-art.com hasn't been working since the site went down. I'm trying to get this e-mail address hosted by another site today so that it will start working again. In the meantime, you can contact me at rainbowcollage@gmail.com.

Found Art REBORN [03 Jan 2005|09:32am]

The Found Art site is back up and running this morning. It has been reborn from the ashes left behind after a terrible hacking. Mark, the owner of the company that hosts Found Art, put in many hours over the holidays to recussitate the site and give it new upgrades as well. I'm so thrilled to have it back and excited by the new improvements. But most of all, grateful for an amazing site host!

Help an Artist out! :) [07 Dec 2004|08:53pm]

Hi Found Art friends,
I am slowing placing my special pieces of artwork around Greenville...but no comments yet to the website.

Also,I have entered the market place with a line of my own clothes and housewares. I happened across CafePress.com, which lets an artist place their own designs on items that are accessable to everyone. So, you can enjoy your favorite pieces without paying high prices. Some people might see this as selling out, but I need to raise capital to show my work at the American Craft Councils shows in Feb. and March. Please take a look at my shop at Creative Chick Studios,(http://www.cafepress.com/creativechick.com), you might find a stocking stuffer for a friend, relative or yourself.

I usually don't like marketing myself this way, but it is hard being a full time artist in this crappy economic times. :)

Happy Holidays,
SoRreLL

PS: I think I am going to have to get me a Found-Art t-shirt from Cafe Press, too!!!

found art enthusiast... [27 May 2004|11:39pm]

hey everybody, just wanted to post here since no one has in awhile. In case you are dying for something to do over memorial day weekend to help pass time while camping or spending time outside:just wanted to share that I went to the lake today and found tons of bottle caps, various pieces of weird plastic, driftwood,etc... all things I intend on using for art... somehow. Now I already had a purpose for the bottlecaps. Well, I saw a great idea in beadwork zine where you flatten the sides, glue some seed beads in the middle, then poke two holes on each side, wire them together and make a bracelet out of them. Cool idea!(recycle at the same time!!)Some other found art enthusiast used everything he found to make jewelry, like a bracelet, necklace, etc... something along those lines, wish I had pics to share but I don't. I just got a new digital cam, much better than my cheapo one for $30 bucks, so hopefully I'll figure out how to post here soon. Laters!!!

Am I the only one who wishes I could just check in a box "non-participant" in all the easter hooplah???? I am forced to jump in, which is all fine and dandy but it just takes me away from my true calling....making art for the stranger who sits on a bench in the park at just the right moment? Dare I make a basket for him with fake pink grass and plastic eggs filled w/ malted milk balls??? Oh I gotta, I just gotta now. This is why I come here, to speak out of my mouth(or keyboard) something that just wouldn't ever occur to me otherwise, and do it.Honestly, the thought didn't occur to me until just now.:)

Hello...oh my god am I glad to have stumbled upon this community/website. Some days you just think all this endless searching for creative resources won't amount to anything, and then bam! I am one of those people who knows they are creative, who knows they need to speak and put their thoughts out into the world, but who worries that everyone who currently knows them will go 'what is she doing?'. So I sit and chew on ideas and see all my creativity in my head...when I would rather it be out in the world. So...I will participate in this 'found art'...I'm not sure how yet, but it will be my project starting now. I can't tell you how much inspiration this gives me, and I love being inspired. The only difference here is that I can follow through on this inspiration because it doesn't involve any form of evaluation, or education, or risk of exposure...it has a lovely (although not totally) anonymous quality that draws me in. Thanks for this website...I'll be a regular.

ARISE!!!!!! [26 Feb 2004|12:50am]

[ mood | bouncy ]

Hey, what happened here? Did everyone just go to sleep and not wake up? I'm hoping there is someone out there interested in this because I JUST heard of found art, and it really didn't come to me thru the found art website, it came to me from someone who came up w/ the idea of artrovertism, or so they call it. You just make art, & leave it for someone to enjoy. Some try to get money for the art, some(like me)don't and are just content to get their art "out there". I did this on valentine's day with a bunch of handmade valentine's. I hid them on the local college campus. I'm excited to do it again, but I'm trying to come up w/ something to do next, then someone from one of the other rooms mentioned found-art.com GREAT idea. As someone who has mostly worked in libraries for the past 10 years we have found some of the weirdest stuff in books, from checks to love notes to freaky notes to i.d.'s... you name it. But I didn't keep them, I just didn't have a reason to... and now I do. I love this and really all it will take is a little participation on my part. If anything, I could just advertise the website on my contributions. Anyway, I hope someone is still alive out there and I look forward to hearing about art adventures!!!! If you are into this check out the royal journal of found art, that's great too. just type that in on a yahoo search engine and it'll give you the link.

Found Art Coverage [12 Sep 2003|09:14am]

ashleyshea
[ mood | excited ]

The word of Found Art is spreading...and YOU are responsible for it! People are finding your art and visiting the website and telling other people about it. Thank you for being such wonderful, generous people!

Along with the word being passed from new member to new member, it's also being passed to the media. This Saturday, September 13th, a fellow member of Found Art -- LOB -- and I will be interviewed on a global radio show -- Here On Earth. The show will air live at 3:00 Central Time. If you don't know if the show airs in your area, you can listen to the show via the website. Anyone around the globe can call in or e-mail a comment or question. So, gather around your radios or computers on Saturday. For folks in the U.S., the number to call in is an toll-free number, so call in and let them know what you think of Found Art!

Those of you who live on the east coast between Baltimore and Boston, and subscribe to Comcast Cable, will have the opportunity to see my smiling face. ;-) I'll be a guest on Your Morning on Monday, September 22nd.

While I am excited about the opportunity to spread the word about Found Art, I'm also a bit nervous, too. While you might not believe it, I'm a bit of an introvert. So being on these radio and television shows are a bit out of league. But, I do the shows not only so that more people can find and join the site, but so that those people who find your art will know what its all about. I'm hoping people will start being more aware and notice your art more quickly...and treat it with the respect it deserves.

That's the news from the Found Art Home. I hope you all are doing well and enjoying creating and sharing your art.

Here we go! [06 Sep 2003|12:24pm]

My presentation to the students of the Renaissance School of the Arts went over quite well, I think. At least several students spoke to me afterwards about how excited they were about getting started, and the teachers were thrilled. I can't wait to see the students begin to register their art on the site and post about their experiences and the responses they have received. I know that this will be an amazing experiences for the students who decide to participate in it throughout the next school year. The more art I leave, the more benefits I reap, even if I don't receive a response. I have received a few interesting glances and smiles when people see me leaving something with wild fibers dangling from it. And that is enough to know that I'm doing something to make the world at least a happier place.

Wish Me Luck [05 Sep 2003|08:58am]

Today I am visiting the Renaissance School of the Arts and making a presentation about Found Art. This school of 140 students is taking on Found Art as their social action focus for this school year. Can you imagine living in a town where 140 students will be leaving art on a regular basis? Amazing! I wish I knew a researcher who could do some sort of statistical analysis of the people who live in this town. I bet their stress levels will reduce and their level of happiness will increase over the next year - and that's just the beginning. Who knows what people will be inspired to do, what dreams they may pursue, what actions of kindness they may take, after hearing about these students and finding their art. It will be an interesting school year for the folks in Appleton, WI!

These are Interesting Times [28 Aug 2003|09:12am]

ashleyshea
[ mood | cheerful ]

Ever since the USA Today article came out on July 29th, the Found Art site has been bursting with all sorts of suprises. As I had hoped, as each person joins the site, they are bringing their own unique flavor to Found Art.

Word is getting out -- mostly by word of mouth, but some by the media. Teachers are finding the site and using it as a springboard for classroom projects. Those who don't feel they are artists are leaving other sorts of things in their offices at work for co-workers to find as a way of boosting morale. To me, this IS art, too. These folks create saner work places.

One of the schools participating in this project is the Renaissance School of the Arts. Their students will be using Found Art as their social action focus for this year. Can you imagine -- 140 people leaving art in one town?! There will be interesting results from this project.

I created a challenge for members of Found Art to Meet via MeetUp.com. September 3rd, next Wednesday, is the next montly MeetUp. If a city can get 5 people together to attend their Found Art MeetUp, I have promised to send goodie bags filled with Found Art products and an array of art supplies. I was putting the bags together last night and I think they will be surprised with all that it contains. So far, there are two possible MeetUps -- one in Houston, TX and the other in Columbus, OH. It'll be interesting to see if one or both can get the RSVPs they need to make this happen. I know that some people who signed up on the MeetUp site do not know what Found-Art.com is. They didn't read the description and thought that this MeetUp was just about found art in general. Won't they be surprised! ;-)

After just over a year of our presence on the web, I am thrilled with the directions Found Art is taking. It's no longer my doing. Some members call it the Found Art Movement, and I suppose that is what it is since it is moving along hoisted on their energies and creativity.
