Some of these are pure love. I like the 8th one the most. Most of all, it's something I haven't seen yet.

Yes, I agree. I couldn't put my finger on what it was.

I like the last one, however.

It's just a stupid skit .

In the third and fourth photos, Tim Walker made Malgosia look ordinary, and that's quite an accomplishment... if you're a jerk! There's nothing but kitsch in Tim's icky little brain, and he obviously doesn't respect the model.

in the end Tim doesn't choose which images go into the magazine. I think he has a say but pretty sure the editor chooses

I agree, but still...

Both the editor and Tim deserve a sharp stick in the eye for this garbage. Even for kitsch, it's particularly inane, and none of the tableaux shows any more imagination than you might expect from a stupid little boy posing a few tin soldiers with one of his sister's dolls.

And... the de-humanizing reduction and objectification of the models would be exactly why the "concept" appealed to a sick little puppy like Tim Walker. In the top photo Malgosia is actually unrecognizable, and one shot after another goes right up her nose. Obtuse "politically correct" critics occasionally attack photographers like Helmut Newton and Ellen von Unwerth for objectifying women, and yet both of them have always and everywhere respected the beauty of their models, but for the abject Tim Walker, a model like Malgosia is just a thing.

wow..Tim Walker is one of my favourite photographers but it's really interesting what you're saying and I do kind of see it :)

Thanks :)

Surprise!

Tim Walker only showed up on my radar a couple of years ago, and most of what I saw has been very "thing-y," but... After I read your comment, I googled around for a while and found more to like, like this...

A couple of photo conventions are "violated" here... that's an awfully shiny nose... but the result is very expressive and subtle, in my opinion. So maybe what happened was that this sort of "concept" wasn't blatant enough for the usual curatorial bozo with a head full of buzz-words and no eye at all, so Tim Walker went over to something more in-your-face, and got way more famous.

Anyway, thanks for sticking with this thread. You made me look around and and learn.

I must say shoots like the one above with Malgosia are not in my favourite of Tim's though I love so much of his work. I bought his book and it states in the back that none of the images are digitally enhanced or re-touched at all, which is so refreshing in this day and age hahahha.

aw my pleasure :) thanks to you too!
