Shocked, too, by the use of the "Mantilla": the top in the head of the model in some pictures, that spanish ladies wear in some ceremonies like weddings (white for the bride, color for the others), funerals (black), or parades in "Semana Santa"(black). It´s a very simbolic outfit ruled by tradition in its color, size, etc...It´s a piece of broidered fabric, usually covering a carey structure known as "Peineta", and combined with flowers in some cases, like parties or bullfighting (of course, not in funerals). The Queen of Spain is the only Queen who can wear it in her visits to the Pope and, by some ancient privilege, she doesn´t have to take it off, nor uncover her head. It´s a symbol of dignity and power ("poderío").
