Interesting... this is the first time I'm seeing an un-retouched (or less retouched version) of the corset picture. I have only seen this version before:

Note how on the left side, the corset fits snugly in the picture above, but in the image posted, there is actually space between her side and the edge of the corset.

I wonder when that edit happened... if there were alternate versions back in the day, or if someone 'shopped it on the web and that version began to circulate.

I'd place my bets on a later re-touched version, rather than an alternate original shot.

Cool to see your response, because on a couple of these, I actually thought of you for possible future lighting ideas :)

I thought that the fact that the corset is obviously undone and inviting tightening was the whole point of the image?

that was the first version of the photo i saw as well, in a huge photography book, so i'm guessing its a retouched version and not photoshopped, since it's quite a popular version too.

i think it's beautiful either way though. :)

I know there's a picture of Madonna from the Vogue video that is almost exactly like the original horst picture, is that what this one here is?

we're seeing in these pics. Mainbocher (pron Main Bokker) always had great sharp and neat stuff. If you want to see how fantastic his stuff was check out pics of Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windosr.

Thanks for the link. Yummy stuff and great info. I can't believe someone think Ghesquire could revive Mainbocher. LOL..if I were a member of that site, I'd tell 'em a thing or two.
