About
Welcome to the heart of imagination. If your path has lead you here, be prepared for the twists and turns about to be placed before you and be ready to meet people and creatures from this world and many worlds beyond. There is no knowing what may happen when you journey into the forest's heart.

About
Forest Heart is a very simple, player-friendly RPG that I created when I got bored. There is no set agenda, and the players move the plot along by interacting with one another. The backstory can be found here, and it is reccommended you read it before you join us.

How To
All you need to do to join is create a character journal and reply to threads in the community itself. You can start a thread if you like, or jump in on another thread and introduce yourself!

A Few Rules

-If you want to have a thread for only a select group of people, specify that at the beginning of your thread. (i.e. "Only Bob and Snuffy can reply to this post, please") That way, no one thread-crashes something important on accident. If a thread isn't specified, it is fair game for everyone in the game.

-Make sure when you start a thread to include your location! Other helpful things to include are general weather and time of day mentions. That way one character doesn't complain of the cold, rainy night right after another one marvels on the bright sunny morning. The details of the world are otherwise pretty loose, so make up surrounding geography as you wish. For thread-starts longer than five paragraphs, please use an lj cut after the first paragraph.

-Please make one of the posts in your character journal a character biography post (I'll list a couple of samples here), so that you have it for your references and also so that other players can easily read about your character. Feel free to use the character journal as the character's actual journal or first person account of the happenings in-game if you like. The actual community is where all the RPing takes place, though.

-Please, for the love of God, no all powerful Mary Sue characters. The game allows for species creation and even for characters to have, dare I say it, special powers, but no invincible species that can fly/regenerate body parts/breathe underwater/sing the alphabet in high E/heal perfectly/fight perfectly/set entire countries on fire by blinking/read minds/talk to animals all at once. Every character has strengths and weaknesses and I'm fairly sure everyone in this group realizes this, but just to reiterate for safety's sake. If I as the mod think the character is too over the top, I'll speak with ya. But again, I'm sure everyone here will have no problems.

-Join as many characters as you like and think that you can keep active. If you go away/aren't feeling a particular character, please tell me so that I may put that character (or characters) on hiatus, and so I don't think you've dropped off the face of the planet. Since this isn't a canon characters game and there aren't people who want specific characters, the only thing you have to keep in mind in terms of activity is other players.

-If you guys think of a crazier than normal plot or an idea that you want to use in the game, just breeze it by me first. I'll most likely say yes. If you have an idea involving characters other than yours (including having a character related to another player's character or having a past (read:pregame) connection to another player's character, just clear it with all involved first. I mean, Bob would like to know if he has a cousin named Milly and the two of them went to med school together, y'know?

-No characters from actual movies/books/comic books/etc. and no canon-alikes, please. No Arwyn Eevinstar elves, for instance. This is all from your own mind, just to keep it simple. This way, everyone is happy and no one is fighting over who gets to be Darth Vader! :) However, you can have a character that comes from a book that doesn't exist, if you get my meaning. Just nothing actually published in this world.

A Bit of Info

-Since the premise of the game is that passageways from different worlds converge, you can create characters of all kinds and from all different worlds! If you are creating a species that no one has ever heard of, please provide a bit of information on the species as a whole, as well as your individual character. You can go into great detail if you wish, especially if you don't mind someone else playing as a member of that species. If you don't mind others joining as a member of the species you created, go ahead and note it on your profile. If you don't want anyone playing as a member of the species you created, please note that in the profile as well. Otherwise the general policy is that if a species interests you and you want to play as a creature of that species, ask the creator.

-The game takes place in present day, so if you bring in characters from this world, they can be modern/know about the internet and iPods/etc. They can also be from any other decade previous to this one, thanks to the rift the passageways caused. So you can have a guy from the year 1996 stop in, or maybe a girl from the 1800's. Just make sure the general overall character is time-period specific. It's not horrendously strict, but the girl from the 1800's should not know what a computer is or that 'cool' is a slang word or that decent women can and do wear dresses that show ankle before they're married, for instance. Not to say it's nothing she can't pick up, of course, just that when they first arrive they should be purely in their own time/world.

-For the sake of convenience, everyone can understand everyone else's speech even if they're from different planets/countries/what have you. Yes, I know this is cheating, no I do not care. If you simply must have your character be anti-social and not understandable, typing in bold will indicate that you are speaking another language. You can also preface that, such as:

Bob mumbled at Cherise in his own language as he tied the cables. "You are an ignorant, smelly hippo woman."

"What was that, Bob?"

"You smell enchanting today."

Bold print is NOT understandable by the other characters, unless you have two characters that speak the same language, of course. If you don't want to do bold print, underlining or italics are fine as well, as long as the message is gotten across. Just because speech is all the same doesn't mean misunderstandings can't occur, though.

-Modern day appliances don't work in Quill's forest, simply because there is no place to plug them in....It IS a forest, after all. Weaponry such as guns/knives/etc may be brought in from other worlds as well as this world, but keep in mind it is not the purpose of the game to run around shooting things, so keep it within reason. No laser-guided AK47s, plz thx.

-A character icon isn't necessary, but might be nice to have for you. It doesn't have to be a picture representation OF the character, either.

-Whenever you create a new character, please contact me with the character's name, journal name, and the world that they are from. After a look at the character bio, I will put the character on the member's list and you can start playing! Important: You must have a basic bio before I will add you to the member's list so I can take a look and get an idea of the character. If you don't have a basic bio, I can't add you and any posts you make as the character will be deleted. To contact me, please email erika.lake@gmailDOTcom. You may also contact me with any problems/questions/complaints/suggestions/high praise.

-Notice: If you have a pair of characters that are very close to one another (ex. a set of twins, significant others, two insperable friends, a mother and child or guardian and child, etc) and you plan to have them interacting very closely a lot, you may make one journal to use for both. Make sure you try to work in both character names somehow into the username. Like [Bad username: bob&joe] or something. No more than two characters per journal, and only if they are closely related and will be posting a lot together! Thanks.

A Character Bio

I'm looking for the basic information, here. You must have this basic bio in place when you wish to join. You can tweak it and update it as you wish to add more info/as the game progresses.

The Basic Bio form:

Name:
Age:
Gender:
Species:
If human, include time period and country/world of origin:
If other than human, a brief species description and the name of their homeworld:
Appearance:
Personality:
Special Abilities/Skills (if any, and, within reason please):
History:
Player contact info:

This is by no means the only bio you can write, you are not limited! If you want to have an entire entry devoted to your species, go right ahead! If you have anything you want to add, feel free to add it. The basics are just in place so we can get a sense of the character. Just make sure this entry is tagged "character bio" so that it is easily accessed.

The complete list of members is here. Please let me know when you have made a character bio so I may add your character to the list!

That's about it for now! Have a good time!
