I'm reposting this message from Georgette of the Forbes March Official Forum.

As you all know there has been news circulating around that Forbes was fired from OLTL. In order to prevent that from happening we need to write and let our voices be heard.

If you're unhappy with this news (and I don't think you'd be here otherwise), let TPTB know. It's as simple as that. What's the best way to get about making your voice heard? Read on.

LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN

Write letters to TPTB and Forbes. LETTERS ARE IMPORTANT. (For reference, Frank Valentini is the executive producer of OLTL, and Ron Carlivati is the headwriter of OLTL. Both of them powerful. Both of them need to hear why you think this sucks.)

Forbes March
c/o One Life To Live
56 West 66th Street
New York, NY 10023

Frank Valentini
c/o One Life To Live
56 West 66th Street
New York, NY 10023

Ron Carlivati
c/o One Life To Live
56 West 66th Street
New York, NY 10023

HUNNY BUNNY CAMPAIGN

You all know that Forbes fans are collectively known as "Hunny Bunnies" -- Forbes has even given us "shout-outs" on-screen by working in references to the Hunny Bunnies in Nash's dialogue (you can see the video of such shout-outs by clicking here).

What better way to show support for Forbes than sending bunnies.

Stuffed bunnies, bunny-themed party favors or postcards or pictures...anything with bunnies on it. Pack it off and ship it to this address:

Frank Valentini
c/o One Life To Live
56 West 66th Street
New York, NY 10023

Need an extra special incentive? Sometimes the soap magazines, if they hear about a good campaign, mention fan efforts in print. Wouldn't it be cool to see Soap Opera Digest giving a shout-out to all those Forbes fans who are sending in the bunnies?

HIT THE MAGAZINES

The soap opera magazines are an important part of this process. Write to them or e-mail them your thoughts.

You can also visit SoapOperaDigest.com's message board and post there.

SID: abcspeakout@soapsindepth.com
SOD: SODsound@primediamags.com
SOW: SPWpubop@primediamags.com

Soap Opera Digest
Sound Off
261 Madison Avenue
New York, NY 10016
E-mail: SODSound@primediamags.com

Soap Opera Weekly
261 Madison Avenue
New York, NY 10016
E-mail: SPWpubop@primediamags.com

Soaps In Depth
270 Sylvan Avenue
Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632
E-mail: abcspeakout@soapsindepth.com (general comments)

So, please help me in the campaign to support Forbes and show him how much we love and adore him!! I know we can do this!!

Thanks so much,Georgette

Forbes supports WGA

Forbes was spotted yesterday picketing in support of the Writers Guild strike along with quite a few other New York-based actors from All My Children, As the World Turns, One Life to Live, and Guiding Light.

A picture of Forbes on the picket line is here

Here's an article from Variety which gives an update on the strike's progress:

Guilds show solidarity on new media: DGA sharing its inside info re: compensation
By DAVE MCNARY
Posted: Mon., Dec. 17, 2007, 3:35pm PT

In a surprising show of union solidarity, the DGA has agreed to share its inside info on new-media compensation with striking scribes.

The Directors Guild of America and Writers Guild disclosed the development in a brief announcement Monday afternoon -- four days after the DGA ran out of patience with the lack of progress in the WGA's negotiations and said it would schedule its own talks in January if there's no writers' deal by the end of the year.

In a joint announcement, the DGA and WGA said they would meet shortly to discuss new media, including info the DGA has developed from its research and studies.

"Neither the WGA nor the DGA will have any further comment on the meeting or any of the information shared in the meeting," the pair announced.

The meeting with the directors may lead to a warming of the historically chilly relations between the DGA and WGA -- although that prospect may prove illusory given the scribes' continued hardline stance as reflected Monday night in the WGA's decision to deny waivers for use of clips on the Oscars. Gil Cates, chief of the DGA's negotiating team, is also producer of this year's Oscarcast.

The DGA's gesture is likely to bolster the town's consensus that the directors are confident they'll be able to work out a deal with the majors. The helmers have signed high-powered attorney Ken Ziffren to act as a consultant in the upcoming talks.

DGA leaders have touted the fact that the guild has spent time and resources over the past 18 months on developing ideas, numbers and formulas for the looming negotiations.

For its part, the Alliance of Motion Picture & Televison Producers indicated last week that it was cautiously optimistic about sitting down with the helmers -- after spending the past five months in fruitless talks with the WGA.

"We look forward to talking with the Directors Guild of America in an atmosphere of professionalism and respect," the AMPTP said in response to the DGA's announcement last week.

Move comes 10 days after the WGA's negotiations with the AMPTP collapsed over the guild's refusal to take half a dozen proposals off the table. The DGA announced Thursday that it would give the WGA two more weeks to make a deal, asserting that the directors could no longer stay on the sidelines as damage from the strike mounts -- though DGA president Michael Apted took pains to stress that the WGA is a "sister guild" and he views the AMPTP as their common adversary.

The DGA-WGA meeting is likely to be perceived as a way for the Directors Guild to outline where it believes a deal can be made in the fast-changing digital world. The confab may also serve to defuse resentment among striking writers that the DGA's undercutting the WGA through its willingness to make its own deal -- at terms that may be unacceptable to writers.

Earlier this month, about 300 members of the WGA -- many of them also directors -- urged the DGA to hold off on scheduling talks with the AMPTP.

The DGA-WGA announcement came on the heels of a strong pledge of support to the strike by SAG president Alan Rosenberg, who asserted, "Your fight is our fight."

The DGA and SAG contracts both expire on June 30. SAG is expected to begin negotiating in the spring.

Rumbles of internal dissent have been heard in recent days over the WGA's negotiating strategy -- particularly the leadership's refusal to narrow its demands to new-media issues. But scribes have been reluctant to criticize guild leaders publicly, partly out of concern that such statements would be used by the AMPTP as part of its continued sniping at the WGA.

An estimated 2,000 WGA members attended a membership meeting at the Santa Monica Civic on Monday night -- the first such gathering since the Nov. 1 meet at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Hopes are dim for resumption of talks any time soon, with the WGA and the AMPTP engaged in a firefight over which side is to blame for the failure of negotiations.

The guild announced over the weekend that it will seek to bargain with the companies individually in an effort to break its negotiations impasse with the AMPTP -- although AMPTP insiders dispute whether the companies have a legal obligation to engage in individual negotiations with the WGA.

The AMPTP's latest attack hit the guild over the strike's economic consequences, asserting that below-the-line workers have already lost more than $200 million in the Los Angeles area alone, while "working writers" have lost more than $115 million.

"Unfortunately for all of us, the WGA's existing unreasonable, inconsistent and impractical negotiating strategy is guaranteed to produce only losers in this strike," it added. "The WGA's organizers refused to engage in early bargaining and then started this strike, and their subsequent negotiating tactics have ensured that the hardships suffering by below-the-line workers and their families will continue to worsen."

In response, the WGA pointed out that the AMPTP walked away from the bargaining table on Dec. 7 and said that NBC "forcing" Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien back on the air without writers is not going to provide the quality entertainment that the public deserves.

"The only solution to the strike is a negotiated settlement of the issues," the WGA said. "If the AMPTP won't come to the table, then it's time for responsible companies to come forward and negotiate a fair deal."

Monday also marked the final day of Writers Guild strike picketing for 2007. Pickets will return to Los Angeles studio lots on Jan. 7 -- assuming there's no deal by then.

The WGA staged pickets Monday featuring soap stars on both coasts. In New York, pickets enduring freezing temps at Time Warner Center included stars from all four New York-based daytime dramas -- "All My Children," "As the World Turns," "Guiding Light" and "One Life to Live."

Pickets included Kim Zimmer, Grant Aleksander, Marj Dusay, Tina Sloan, Robin Strasser, Michael Easton, Hilary B. Smith, Kamar De Los Reyes, Trevor St. John, Bree Williamson, Beth Ann Bonner, Melissa Archer, Catherine Hickland, Jerry Ver Dorn, Don Hastings, Julia Barr, Mark La Mura, Terri Garber, Jill Larson, Kassie DePaiva, Forbes March, David Kreizman and Ellen Dolan.

Other notables included John Sayles, Steve Martin, Nick Pileggi, Chris Elliott, Adam Resnick, Terry George, Peter Hedges, Tom Fontana and Seth Meyers.

© Variety

Forbes on the Chinese Toycott

New York Post 11/15/07: Forbes March

CHINA TOYCOTT: HOLIDAY SHOPPERS FEARFUL OVER RECALLS
BY LUCY CARNE
November 15, 2007

Santa will be lugging a lighter load this Christmas - thanks to parents boycotting toys that were made in China.

Recent recalls of flawed and lead-tainted toys have soured consumers' taste for Chinese-manufactured products to the extent that nearly half of all American shoppers this holiday season will steer clear of toys with the "Made in China" label, a new study found.

One-third of Americans said they would purchase fewer toys, and 46 percent would avoid buying any Chinese-made products, according to the Harris Interactive poll.

But as shoppers flee from Chinese toys, parents are faced with the predicament of not delivering on their kids' Christmas wish lists, as more than 80 percent of all the toys sold in the United States are made in China.

"That is going to be the tough part," New York mother-of-two Kristi Sardo, 34, said yesterday as she shopped at Toys "R" Us.

"My 21/2-year-old daughter is really into princesses, and I do want some princess toys under the tree, but I'm going to have to be checking everything."

The headache of Christmas shopping was expected to hurt even more this year thanks to militant parents scouring labels.

"I'm spooked by all these recalls, and I'm checking everything, which means it's going to take me twice as long to get my shopping done," Sardo added.

In response to the rash of recalls, vigilant New York parents have triggered a rush for non-Chinese and non-plastic toys.

Gifts expected to be popular this Christmas include wooden building blocks, bicycles, books, clothes and video games.

"Anything you put in his hand goes in his mouth, so it's a massive concern for us," said Forbes March, 34, referring to his year-old son Peter as they browsed the shelves for toys yesterday.

"It would be marvelous if this could actually let us go back to the whole wooden folk-toy movement."

Due to consumer demand, independent New York toy boutique West End Kids erected signs listing each toy's country of origin.

"Anything not made in China is what's popular," West End Kids co-owner Leslie Bergman said. "People are very scared."

But American Specialty Toy Retailing Association executive director Kathleen McHugh urged parents not to overreact to the recalls and to try to keep a level head. "It's companies - not countries - that are the ones responsible," she said.

© New York Post

Forbes & Bree at the Emmys

I got to watch the 34th Annual Emmy Awards last night, where Forbes and Bree were dressed up to present the Outstanding Supporting Actors category. On the way up to the podium, Bree tripped and dropped the envelope she was holding. Bree laughed it off as Forbes looked up at the audience and quipped, "She might be needing that..." :)

Each segment was preceded by a brief video clip of a fan expressing his/her views, and concluded with short interviews with the stars backstage. A standing ovation greeted the newly retired Bob Barker when he walked in to open the show escorted by two beautiful women, saying, "This proves that the judges had sympathy for an old man who doesn't have a job." Standing at the podium to present the Creative Arts award, Barbara Walters of "The View" joked with Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck that for "The View" to win an Emmy of its own, "We'll have to kill Ellen!" Sure enough, Ellen walked away again with awards for both best talk show and best talk show host. During her acceptance speech, Ellen praised Rosie O'Donnell's performance on "The View," and promised to make her own show more topical and controversial, starting with the jest, "I think Bob Barker is a quitter!" Dr. Phil introduced memorable moments from "The Price Is Right," by sharing the anecdote that he and his wife spent their honeymoon at a taping of the show. "I even have the name tags," he grinned, holding up the name tags he and his wife had worn on that day. Bob Barker got another standing ovation when he received his 19th award for best game show host, answering Ellen's call to "Come on down!" Tyra Banks couldn't stop cracking up at Elmo's funny interruptions while she was trying to introduce the Children's Programming category. "I don't know why he won an award," Elmo said, glancing down at the award-winner pulling his strings, Kevin Clash.

For the first time since the awards ceremony began, there was a tie for best drama series, with wins for both Y&R and GL. Along with the usual special moments from each show, there was also a segment spotlighting "Guiding Light"'s 70th anniversary Find Your Light and Hands on Network efforts.

More pictures

Last night's winners

Outstanding Drama Series: "The Young & the Restless," "Guiding Light"
Outstanding Supporting Actress: Genie Francis (Laura) "General Hospital"
Outstanding Supporting Actor: Rick Hearst (Ric) "General Hospital"
Outstanding Lead Actress: Maura West (Carly) "As the World Turns"
Outstanding Lead Actor: Christian LeBlanc (Michael) "The Young & the Restless"
Outstanding Younger Actress: Jennifer Landon (Gwen) "As the World Turns"
Outstanding Younger Actor: Bryton McClure (Devon) "The Young and the Restless"
Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series: "Guiding Light"
Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series: "As the World Turns"
Outstanding Talk Show: "The Ellen DeGeneres Show"
Outstanding Talk Show Host: Ellen DeGeneres
Oustanding Game Show Host: Bob Barker, "The Price is Right"
Performer in a Children's Series: Kevin Clash (Elmo) and Caroll Spinney (Oscar the Grouch) "Sesame Street"
Lifetime Achievement Award: Lee Phillip Bell, co-creator of "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful."

Here's another interview from Forbes's All My Children days, Soap Opera Digest 11/2/99, found on AMC Central Library

Great Scott Soap Opera Digest Magazine Dated: November 2, 1999

A Long, Strange Trip Brought ALL MY CHILDREN's Forbes March To Pine Valley

"I got into modeling through acting. I had no master plan," muses Forbes March.

You could say that again. If anything, March's big break was a matter of, um, timing. "I got a job selling those $10 imitation Gucci and Rolex watches they sell out of eel skin suitcases door-to-door," recalls the actor. "[One day] I walked into an acting agency to sell watches. They asked me if I did any acting because my pitch was very flamboyant."

The animated newcomer, who assumed the roll of ALL MY CHILDREN's Scott in May, turns uncharacteristically bashful when asked for a demonstration. "It was totally embarrassing. It was so tacky. I got briefcases thrown at me, I got chairs thrown at me, but you had to be very aggressive," he explains. "I made a dollar a watch - a dollar Canadian, that is - so [that's equivalent to] 60 cents a watch. I had to sell 100 watches a day to make 60 bucks. One hundred watches a day! Try selling 100 fake, phony, cheap watches a day. Every day ... So I walked into the acting agency, they asked me to be an actor, I said, 'Sure.' Then I went on an audition and got the job."

March's first gig, hawking Kenner glue guns, convinced him to give up the glamour of peddling knockoffs. "That paid more than 100 days of selling watches, so I was hooked. My next audition was for a TV show and I got that."

That was a role on NORTHWOOD, a now-defunct Spelling-esque sudser. "It's 90210, but Canadian-style," laughs March, breaking into sample dialogue from the show. "'Hey, geez, Josh, I hear your girlfriend's pregnant, eh?' It was a lot of fun, but I had no acting experience, so I didn't know what the hell I was doing."

March played good guy Brendan. "Brandon, Brendan, hmmm," cracks the actor. "[I was] hired by the same guy who gave Jason Priestly [ex-Brandon, BEVERLY HILLS, 90210] his first job, fancy that?"

Before March could devote a lot of time to acting classes, another career path loomed. "I was looking for work, and through acting I met a lot of fashion people. They got me into modeling."

March took off to Milan, Italy, where he quickly discovered what it's like when you're not one of the top models. "My first few months stunk because I wasn't working. Nobody was working. Everybody was depressed and wanted to go home. And there were like eight of us in a one-bedroom apartment."

No glittering parties with Naomi Campbell? "We were just buddies," he cracks. "No, I was a schlump. I was one of those newbies. The ultimate newbie."

Things picked up, however, and March found the work easy and a great way to see the world. After four years, though, the globetrotting had lost its luster. "I was in four countries a week. It sounds amazing, and it was amazing - for a month or two. [Then] one night I woke up in a complete panic in a Swiss hotel. I was drenched in sweat. I had no idea what month it was, what day it was, what country I was in, what city I was in or why I was there. I had no idea. It was a total blackout. I just lost it. I did four intercontinental flights in 10 days, bouncing around the world: New York, L.A., Milan, Miami, Toronto, Spain. It sounds great." It wasn't.

March did return home with a beautiful export - fianc饠Vanessa Sergio. "She's fabulous. We met four years ago in Milan. I'd been dating a terrible model. Who knows where she is? I never want to know. I was staying with a friend trying to recuperate emotionally. In a fit of tearful anguish, I told her the type of woman I wish I could meet and she said, 'I know just the one.' And she was right."

Back in New York, March once again turned his attention to acting: "As soon as I got here, I got my butt into acting classes." He studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and began auditioning for New York soap roles, which led to him being cast as Tim Dillon on AMC.

Somewhere along the way, plans to age the character, which had been played for eight years by Tommy J. Michaels, were apparently scrapped. "[The show said], 'We changed our minds, you're Scott.'"

March's reaction? "I said okay. I didn't know who Tim was and I didn't know who Scott was, either. I don't know why they did that," shrugs the actor.

March is content to play the recast Chandler scion. "The opportunity to work on a character that's growing so much adds a whole different twist to the acting," he says. "You're faced with new decisions and challenges to develop [the character] every day."
Of course, the biggest challenge in March's life right now is impending fatherhood - March and Sergio are expecting a girl around the end of November. "I feel as excited as I do frightened ... and paranoid ... and fearful ... and ecstatic ... It's absolutely everything all turned into one sleepless, nine-month wait."

© Soap Opera Digest

And because the month of March deserves a March picture...

Pic from the AMC Central Library

Forbes on Cover of new Soaps In Depth!

Hey everybody! Got something really cool to announce for those that haven't heard yet.

Forbes is featured on the COVER! of the newest issue of ABC Soaps In Depth magazine (along with his "One Life to Live" co-stars Bree Williamson and Kamar de los Reyes). It's a very big deal, especially considering that OLTL hardly ever gets magazine covers (usually "General Hospital" is the featured soap).

And not only is Forbes featured on the cover, but there's an interview with Forbes on the inside talking about his current storyline on OLTL. With the interview is another picture of Forbes, taken at a brand new photo shoot. (Scans credited to azzro at The Fire Escape!)
Link to scan of the cover
Link to scan of inside picture

I know not everyone here watches OLTL, but the magazine is a pretty cool thing to have, and it's a good way to support Forbes (the magazine keeps track of which covers are the best selling). So spread the word!

This independent film is based on the popular internet radio drama, Scripts and Scruples.

Here is a summary about the radio show taken from The official Scripts and Scruples website:

S&S is an online and internet radio soap opera produced by Radio Loger Productions.

The show follows the lives of a group of Manhattanites as they deal with their careers, their romances and their own morality.

The stories focus on the Malone, Richards, Jones, Walker and Dean families. The characters page will give you a list of characters and their backstories, and this family tree and map are also good places to start.

Each episode is around six to eight minutes and features the regular cast members plus recurring characters and guest stars.

Though the film's official site is still under construction, there is a MySpace Site to follow updates.

Who would have guessed?"

March, who just turned 26, will make his debut on the daytime drama this Wednesday, seen here on ASN and ABC at 2 p.m.

Although he was originally hired to play the character Tim Dillon, March was surprised to learn he had been recast as Scott Chandler, son of sweet Stuart and nephew of evil Adam (both played by David Canary).

As diehard fans of the show know, Stuart adopted Scott as a baby after his HIV-positive mother Cindy died. The young man's been off to college for the last few years but is returning, and will likely have a love interest soon, too.

"You got no story if you ain't got a love story," March says.

Speaking from ABC's Manhattan studios during a recent lunch break, March said it's been a hectic, but exhilarating, few weeks since he reported for duty on the soap.

Although he's acted before, most notably on the CBC series Northwood, the pace of shooting a soap has left him quite breathless.

"It took me unawares, my heavens," he said. "It's just a lot of work. I didn't expect it to be quite so challenging.

"In a film or a weekly TV show, you have a week or two to shoot an episode; with these guys, they're shooting an hour a day. It's huge masses of material to memorize everyday, it means you're very rushed, you have very little rehearsal time and it has to be done in one take."

Adding to the pressure is the fact that soap operas are shot using four cameras instead of one, which can contribute to the confusion for a novice.

"You have to keep track somehow of which one is which, while keeping your light, while memorizing your lines, while following your blocking, while trying to act.

"I wake up at 2 o'clock in the morning going 'oh my god, did I walk to the right of the table or to the left of the table? I don't know!'," he said, with mock horror.

March, who commutes to Manhattan from his home across the river in Hoboken, N.J., said his fellow actors have helped him learn the ropes and will even give him subtle cues if he's about to make a wrong step while taping a scene.

"They're used to new people coming on and they've got the whole routine down pat of how to get you into the swing of things."

March's journey from jock at Halifax's Queen Elizabeth High School to budding soap star has been an interesting one.

After a year of university, a move to Vancouver and the job on Northwood, the exceptionally handsome March took off for Europe where he modelled for three years.

"It was fantastic, it was absolutely the most amazing experience of my life," he said about the modelling gig.

After living and working in Europe, March attended the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York for a year.

He was then ready to go out and get "some honest opinions as to how I was doing" and started looking for work as an actor.

"The same week, quite unexpectedly, I landed the role" on All My Children.

The young actor said his parents - teacher Janette and philosophy professor Peter - are very proud of his accomplishments.

"They seem pretty excited, but my parents are pretty spectacular people as well," March said. "It's tough to keep up with Dr. Peter March on ballsy things to do."

And his friends from home - "my very honest peanut gallery" - have been burning up the Internet lines with e-mails of support.

So far, the hours have turned out to be long in the soap factory, with March often logging 12-hour days. But thanks to his castmates, he's starting to feel more comfortable on the set.

"I was (initially) just so stressed and nervous, I was counting the minutes until I could run home and hide my head under a pillow," March said.

He's also had to have a little make-over for the role of Scott, described by March as a "young" 22-year-old.

"They told me to cut my hair. They wanted me younger for one thing, so they cut it and made it kind of choppy and kiddie."

As if that isn't excitement enough, he's also briefly met Drama Queen Susan Lucci, who plays vixen Erica Kane on All My Children.

"I just met her this morning, she was very friendly. She was very professional, very on her way. She's got a lot of pressure on her."

Not the least of which might be whether or not she'll finally win a Daytime Emmy Award at this Friday's ceremony after being shut out 18 times previously.

And who knows, with the speed that March has moved up in the acting world, he might be in line for a statue of his own at next year's ceremony.

"Cross your fingers," he said.

Quick note: I'm updating our list of Forbes fansites later on today, so if you know of others to include, please let me know. :)

And now, from the SciFi archives, here's a 2002 SciFi Stream video of a Mutant X promotional interview session with Forbes March, Victoria Pratt (who played Shalimar Fox), and John Shea (who played Adam Kane).

Forbes March: Mutant X is a superhero show with a sci-fi edge. There's a lot of stunts. There's a lot of action. It centers around 5 new mutants who've been genetically engineered from birth.

Victoria Pratt: Mutant X, it's gonna be fantastic! It's about a group of mutants led by a charismatic fellow named Adam. The mutants on our show and the mutants that we deal with every episode are products of this experiment. And we've been bred with different kinds of DNA. Mine was animal DNA.

Forbes: And they've dedicated themselves to trying to save the other, we think, thousand other mutants that are running around out there. Some of them aware, some of them not aware that they are mutants who are being hunted by the bad guys, the GSA.

Victoria: We are fighting to help other mutants that are children of a company called Genomex to sort of live right and don't be evil. Genomex is a secret part of the government and they were created to do genetic research. And now Genomex is run by a fellow named Eckhart who took his experiments in a bad direction. And now he's trying to collect all of these mutants to sort of work for him and to use their powers for his benefit instead of sort of the benefit of human kind.

Forbes: How was Mutant X founded? Well, our leader, Adam--last name unknown, of course--he was one of the original scientists who was doing the genetic research. He found out that the mutants were going to be used for not so positive means and separated himself from the organization. And went about trying to pull together a team of mutants to combat the bad guys he had previously been working for. So it's a sort of redemption for his character.

John Shea: The character of Adam is a complicated character. One of the reasons I liked him was that he wasn't just a pure straight all-American hero. I mean, he was much more of a complicated modern anti-hero, in the sense that he's a scientist on the run from the law. He's an outlaw scientist. And I like that about him. There's also something of the wounded idealist about him that I relate to. His back story is that he was a scientist, sort of a prodigy, a scientific prodigy coming out of Stanford with a PhD at the age of 19. Was hired by a private corporation called Genomex to start doing genetic research and thought he was doing it in agriculture, and he was coming up with all kinds of interesting hybridization ideas. And then found his ideas being coopted and being used in human genetic experiments that were going on within this corporation that he didn't know about. And so then when he found out that he was party to the creation of a whole series of human genetic experiments, he was aghast and downloaded as much of the information as he could to wipe out the programs that he had created and take the list of all of the embryos which had been experimented on and sort of went into hiding. And as the series is picked up, we see him on the run and underground from the government, who has created the GSA, the Genetic Security Agency, to try hunt him down. And all of the mutant embryos that are now maturing and developing and manifesting these extraordinary powers. In the first couple of episodes, even before the series begins, he's gotten two people. One is the character of Shalimar, who has her human abilities have been cross bred with those of a cat. So she's a feral. And she has cat-like abilities. So she can jump, move, do astounding physical things.

Victoria: My character is Shalimar Fox and she has animal DNA. She's faster and more agile than a human, and just like a cat can drop X times its height, so can I. And I can leap the same distance. And she has heightened senses of smell and vision and fun things like that. It's just such a fun character to play.

John: The other one is a character called Jesse Kilmartin, who is somebody who has the ability to materialize and dematerialize, or to mass and mass out. To create a solid impermeable structure and then to equally create something that energy can pass through. So it's an astonishing ability and it comes in, obviously, really useful through the course of the episodes.

Forbes: Jesse's new mutant ability? He can control his molecular density. So he can get hard as a rock and very strong one moment, and then he can phase out or become very light and float around or pass through walls the next. So in a fight situation, he can mass out his arm and hit a guy, which sends him flying 18 flips through the air and bouncing off a wall. Or he can run through the wall and then mass out or drop through the floor. Jesse is an upper-middle class kid. His father was a corrupt multimillionaire politician type. And Jesse's a fun guy. He's probably the only character in the Mutant X team who is a volunteer. Which gives him a certain joie-de-vivre. He's akin to these middle-class kids who go and join the Peace Corps. They don't have to do it. And that gives him a certain edge. And it gives it a lightness while at the same time, a greater sense, perhaps, of dedication. Because they're doing it voluntairily; they weren't drafted into the situation. They want to be there. And Jesse's really enjoying it because he's found a family for the first time.

Victoria: The other girl on the show, Lauren, her character is Emma. And she is telempathic. So she can move things, create feelings in others and sense people's feelings. Brennan, he can throw off sparks. He has electric energy. And that's kind of a fun power for him.

John: One of the things that drew me to the series was that these were not being treated as one-dimensional kind of cardboard comic book characters. One of the brilliant things about "Lois & Clark" was that we tried to make those characters as real as possible. They had both strengths and weaknesses. They had flaws. They were very human. And certainly, Clark was human. Lois was human. Lex Luthor was human. You know, we all had our vulnerabilities. And that's what we're trying to create here as well. One of the things when I read this that drew me to it, was that I saw that possibility. That the characters make mistakes. That they're human. But they're humans with extraordinary abilities. And with those abilities come all kinds of problems.

Forbes: I think that's part of the subtext to the whole super hero thing. That in life, we all feel like mutants, that's the idea. We all feel subtly ostracized. We all feel outside. We all feel peculiar in some way. And we all want to be normal. What makes these people heroes, and what makes them inspirational is that they take these weaknesses...in everybody else's eye, what we perceive to be everybody else's eye; who knows if we were actually open about our weaknesses whether they'd be accepted or not? But they're not afraid of their weaknesses, interpreted weaknesses. They take those weaknesses, they tend to turn them into strengths, and they become heroes with them. That is, I think, from what I understand, is the attraction to comic book heroes. Superman. That is the story of Superman. That's why they run around in disguises. That's why Batman wears a mask. That's why Superman couldn't play football. And that's what makes him a hero. It's nice to work on a show that I feel is positive. That I think a lot of people are gonna feel good about. That it's going to make a lot of people feel good. That it's going to make people feel inspired. That's great. That's great. I mean, I like acting just for acting. I'll act by myself. I've been acting in the shower since I was, you know, in a shower. But to have the chance to do that and do something that is positive, is great. It's great, yeah.

Victoria: I get letters from mothers saying, "Oh, you know, my little girl thinks you're so cool because you're so strong." And I really think that's important to me, for girls to feel empowered. But I mean, whoever can draw strength from, you know, whatever source. If they draw strength from me being an outcast in the show, then that's great too. You know, I think people have to find the strength within themselves.

Forbes: Oh, the stunts, the fun stuff! Yeah, yeah!

Victoria: I do a lot of my own stunts. Some of the things I'm not insured for!

Forbes: We do about 90-95 percent of the stunts ourselves. We do everything that we are, for insurance reasons, allowed to do. So falls, if it's within a certain height, we do them ourselves. I think it's a five story limit that we're allowed to do. Which is pretty freakin' high! But a 10 story stunt, that's my well-paid stunt man. Any of the wirework that you see, any of the flips, any of the martial arts stuff, we do all our own fight scenes. Which I have the well-covered bruise on my left knee to cover for, having done ten hours of fight scenes on Sunday. But we do as much as we possibly can ourselves. I had to do a drop. They just dropped me into the middle of an action scene once from above. It's actually a crane, we don't show in the scene where they drop me from. I just... There's a fight going on, and I WHAP! drop into the middle of it. So what they do is they have a very high crane and I'm on a very thin wire. Dangling there while they're setting up the scene, looking down at the concrete pavement below me. And I hate heights. I hate heights. But it's not that dramatic, really, but it scared the poop out of me.

Victoria: In the pilot, there's this great...the entrance of my character. I'm jumping from a building down onto the roof a truck. And I don't know, I think they just assume that I'm game because I've done my own stunts in my other show. And I am, for the most part, pretty game. But they took me up four stories on a decelerator. And I'd never done a decelerator fall before and I hadn't rehearsed it. So I was up there in this harness, just looking down, down, down at this tiny little truck and thinking, "What am I doing? I mean, my stunt double is over there, and she's willing!" But boy, when I saw the finished product. And I saw just like the...I mean, you can tell. You can tell when there's height, and when there's air beneath you. And when you see the fall, it just stopped my heart. It stopped my heart on the day, and it stopped my heart then too. And it was just... Oh, it was incredible.

Forbes: It really adds to the quality and the impression. I mean, if you can see that it's the actual actor doing it. It's a lot more fun, you buy into it. You really pull for the character a lot more than if you see that it's a stunt man.

John: I think it's set like 5 minutes in the future. I don't see it as happening, you know. This is a very stylized world. It's a very different kind of world, I don't know if you saw the film Gattaca. There's a kind of simplicity to it. There's a stylization to the set designs, the designs that you're looking around here. The wardrobe, the makeup, and the writing, and the acting, it's all supernaturalistic. But at the same time it's set slightly in the future. And I'd say like 5 minutes in the future. So in a way, it's a cautionary tale as well.

Victoria: I think we're talking about the very, very near future on our show. When you think about what they're doing with genetic research right now. I mean, who's to say there aren't mutants next door, you know what I mean? So I think that it's close, if it's not here already.

Forbes: It's very much a Conspiracy Theory kind of thing. That in fact genetics is not a new field of science. The code has not just been broken. The code in fact broken back in --I don't know what they're saying-- the, I mean, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, but a while ago anyway. That the government is much more advanced than we think they are. Which many of us think they are, in fact. And that it is, in fact, contemporary.

John: I believe that there's genetic research going on right now. I believe that here in Toronto, or in New York City, or in Los Angeles, or in any major city. We know that it's going on in Paris. We know that it's going on around the world right now, that people are trying to genetically engineer embryos. And who knows what's going to happen as people start to take animal genes and transplant them with human genes, and take some human things and try to augment them. And 100 years from now, even ten years from now, we may be finding that this show that we're doing is not so far-fetched.

Forbes: Visually, this show is amazing. The sets rock. The director of photography is amazing. It's a really beautiful show. The stunts are great. I think you're going to see some stunt work that hasn't really been attempted too much before in TV. And that's very exciting. I mean, obviously, set designs, and beautiful photography, and good looking clothes and fun action sequences aren't going to carry us through 5, 6 years of the show. But it's a great start anyway. And then as the show develops, the relationships develop, I think you're starting to see a really visually cool show. They're doing a lot of really neat stuff up here which is cutting edge. Very cool.

John: I believe that the show is going to be enormously entertaining for those who want to enter into this world. I think people are gonna find that it's gonna be satisfying on a lot of different levels. There's great action; there's great adventure. The dramas are interesting, the characters are interesting. There's some humor involved. You know...

Victoria: There's lots of fun coming up.

Forbes: Yeah.

Victoria: Lots of fun.

And just to set the record straight, Mutant X fans do NOT dress up like three-eyed aliens. *g*

Soap star Forbes slides in safely for SkyChiefs

Thursday, June 22, 2006

By William LaRue Staff writer

When it comes to fan reaction, Forbes March finds that co-starring on the ABC daytime soap opera "One Life to Live" is similar to his former role on the science-fiction TV series "Mutant X."

Both genres spark heaps of viewer passion and outspoken devotion, he says, although soap fans often look a lot different.

"They're usually dressed as humans and not three-eyed aliens," he says with a laugh.

March, who plays winery owner Nash Brennan on "One Life to Live" (2 p.m. weekdays, WSYR-TV, Channel 9) is scheduled to greet fans and sign autographs at 7 p.m. Saturday in Syracuse during the SkyChiefs' baseball game.

"One Life to Live" isn't March's first encounter with a daytime drama. In 1999, he joined the cast of ABC's "All My Children" as Scott Chandler, but the part lasted only a year as the writers struggled to find an engaging story line for him.

He went from there to working three years on the syndicated

series "Mutant X," where he played genetically mutated Jesse Kilmartin, who could walk through walls or make his body as solid as stone.

In 2005, a year after "Mutant X" was canceled, March joined the cast of NBC's "One Life to Live," which tapes at a studio in New York City.

The time away from daytime drama made him appreciate how "it's the closest thing to (live) theater on camera," March says, speaking by phone recently from his home in New Jersey.

"I quickly realized I'd taken for granted my first time around," he says. "The way they shoot it (daytime soap operas) makes it very much an actor's medium. . . . They don't like to do retakes, so if you get halfway through a scene and you start going on a tangent - usually because we screwed up and didn't learn our lines - then you just kind of try to make it work."

March, 33, a native of England who was raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, says he's a fan of Nash because the character is much like the fun, swashbuckling leading men he grew up watching in the movies.

Nash also has been having a romantic relationship with Tess Buchanan (Bree Williamson). He eventually learned she has a split personality and that her real name is Jessica Buchanan. Worse for him, Jessica is in love with Antonio Vega (Kamar de los Reyes).

When Tess/Jessica became pregnant this season, Nash stood by her and offered to support the child, even before he learned he was the father.

March says this story line is sparking enormous passion from viewers, especially men who stop him on the street to say they want his character to fight for custody of the baby.

"Three times on Friday, grown men came over. (One man gives) me this shout-out: 'You know, don't let that guy take your kid.' He was really impassioned about it," March says. "It's almost every man in America has a family that's been taken over by another man. It's neat to be able to tell that story."
