| GOLD #5!! 10KM OPEN WATER MARATHON FOR MEN.
Unexpected, but very pleasant :D
Especially when you consider that Maarten van der Weijden was diagnosed with a form of bone marrow cancer in 2001, had to go through 4 chemo's and a bone marrow transplant, but he beat the cancer completely and now he's won olympic gold. He's our Lance Armstrong :) Nothing but respect.
Plus he'll go down in history of being the first man to win this new Olympic distance :)

| | Anyone watching the Olympics has seen these sort of what I guess is Kung Fu performances? I mean, they're being scored and all! The commentator here just said it's one of the exhibition sports that every Olympics has. Curious and all, but still very nice to watch. ;) | comments: Leave a comment |

| I don't really know what to say about tonight tbh.
Erm, the new strips looked good? ;) And the Northern Ireland fans were great?
No, I think we did ok. Whether or not ok is good enough to beat Macedonia, I don't know. In saying that though, we're notoriously bad at Hampden friendlies so it may be wise to discount this match! It's nothing new though, we always, always struggle to break down teams who come to defend against us. We just quite often lack that killer touch and we did during the last campaign too...despite the results. ;)
I would love to know why neither Boyd, Clarkson nor (Stevie) Fletcher came on for Miller. I think Miller does an outstanding job for Scotland, don't get me wrong, and i'd probably still play him away to Holland and games such as those. But I'm not convinced the McFadden/Miller partnership worked tonight, against teams who we're desperately trying to break down, and i think there were some balls into the box that Boyd would have thrived on. 20 mins wouldn't have done any harm, surely?!
Commons did well when he came on, and so did Barr. I thought Scott Brown did ok too tbh, though there seem to be a few who disagree on that one?! Great penalty save from Mcgregor though bit of a daft tackle from him in the first place! We're lucky to have 2 very very good keepers (though Gordon's still my first choice!). My Scotland man of the match was McFadden (totally unbiased!). Thought he did a lot of work, some great runs, great control - capable of something special. He could maybe learn to pass a wee bit quicker, but that's Faddy...and i think we need him badly. He was also unlucky not to score - great save from Taylor. Plus, I loved his interview afterwards, bless him. ;) ♥
Jonny Evans was great for Northern Ireland.
So...yes. Not great, but not...terrible. I've seen much, much worse. We do need to play better against Macedonia though - i'm absolutely terrified of playing them, i was before tonight and nothing has changed! I'm sure we'll be fine though. Right? South Africa here we come...;)
I seem to have rambled on quite a lot. Sorry! Scotland do that to me. ;) | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| Germany vs Belgium, friendly in Nürnberg, 0-0 at half-time.
It's times like these when I regret living in Germany. *sigh* Granted, I get to see Daniel van Awesome, and he's doing extremely well. Granted, Ballack and Frings aren't playing, which lessens my annoyance about the midfield. Still Germany so doesn't please me at the moment. The strikers are pretty much useless, the only good shot on goal was by Trochowski, and the best player on the pitch is probably Robert Enke. Good news sound differently. Also, I nearly started to puke at the sight of Tim Wiese on the bench. I'll never understand what got him there. *facepalm*
Why can't I live in Spain? Or Denmark? Then I'd get to see my Spaniards as well as Agger and Bendtner, which must be 100 times more exciting as the rather pathetic thing the Germans are doing at the moment. (Whatever it is, it's not good football.) Belgium actually managed to be entertaining a couple of times (and they have a striker who reminds me of Pavlyuchenko), but they're not the most filigrane team in the world, of course.
( Completely unrelated to this... )
Penalty for Germany, van Buyten against Gomez, 1-0 Schweinsteiger. Do I want to continue watching this? *sigh*
HAHA, there's a player called van Damme. XD
*flees*
ETA: Thank you, Marko Marin! Now that was a fine goal! :D
By the way, that new "no names on jerseys anymore" FIFA rule sucks. | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |

| I still can't get over the shock of seeing sense and sanity prevailing re: the England armband. I can't actually remember the last time an England manager made an intelligent decision so I was fearing the worst. The hordes of mentally deficient people who apparently genuinely believe that Rio 'drugs cheat, innit' Ferdinand is worthy of inclusion in the human race, let alone the captaincy, frankly disturb me to the point of nausea and debilitating fear for the future of our planet. *shudder*
In other news, I'm having to record the Olympics because of stupid work and it's taking me ages to catch up on everything. And I really could do without the American commentators' continual arrogance and sour grapes, kthnx. As if I needed a reminder of why I started watching only foreign telly!
Anyway, the friendlies are about to start and I need to get some work done if I'm going to watch the live commentary, so I'll leave you all with this comedy moment and quote of the month:
left_sider, while redecorating her room, in a tone of deep woe after discovering her new furniture arrangement didn't work: My dream just died.
Naturally, being the sympathetic and supportive person that I am, I laughed in her emo little face. *g*
ETA: Same old, same old. I suppose more than one intelligent decision in a week was too much to hope for from Capello. Well done, Joey, at least.
ETA2: Good riddance to bad rubbish. One down, only 27520 to go... | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

OMG, I missed him so much. :D Him and all the others, of course. I guess this season is going to be... (Do it! Say it!) fantastic. XDDD
If you STILL haven't seen the first series, go here. I guarantee you, it's worth it. :D
By the way, completely unrelated to this, is anyone interested in yesterday's Argentina vs Brazil game? *winkwink* :D | comments: 11 comments or Leave a comment |

| I HATE the SFA/SSC. With a capital H. And a capital A, T and E too, evidently. ;) Seriously, they're just...useless. And this isn't even about the youth row, it's about their lack of ability to read a form which they themselves created. Argh.
As you can tell, i'm in a terrible mood yet again today. Want to go to Hampden! Plus i've just discovered that there's someone else out there who i can't trust, which is kind of upsetting.
I also imagine God Save the Queen is going to be booed at Hampden tonight and I don't even know if i have any N.I fans on my flist but if I do, i apologise to them.
And I'm also slightly worried by the fact that Alan Hutton is rated at less than 50-50 to make Macedonia and Iceland. I'm not sure we really have any natural replacements...hopefully someone will stand out tonight...!
On a lighter note (well, not really lighter since it's all about the silly Italy game), I ♥ Faddy.
And McManus talks sense. ♥ | |
