the significant other and i are celebrating our anniversary this weekend and we decided for a nice romantic dessert we would try fondue. however, neither one of us has a fondue pot. does anybody have ideas for alternatives? my crock pot is way to big to use for just the two of us. do you think sticking a small glass bowl in the crock pot would work? it would be very pretty, but i'm pretty sure it would still taste good.
thanks in advance!

So! I want to make cheese fondue for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. He's working late today and it's freezing outside, so I've decided that a roaring fire, fondue and a bottle of red wine would be perfect for him to come home to.
Last time I made cheese fondue, I made it with old cheddar, hemp beer (it was all we had, really) and swiss cheese.
Any interesting variations?

This is my New Year's Day menu:
- oven-barbecued beef brisket with sauteed peppers and onions and melted provolone
- sweet country cornbread
- colalrd greens with garlic and applewood-smoked bacon
- roasted garnet yams
- storebought Napoleons (defrosted from frozen)
Sadly, i couldn't find collards at Vons, so I had to buy Swiss chard instead. Will this work as a substitute? Should I do anything differently?
As an added bonus, here's the final menu for New Year's Eve:
- stuffed mushrooms
- broth fondue (beef broth, wine, and garlic) with beef tenderloin, broccoli, carrots, and red creamer potatoes to dip; dipping sauces include: tzatziki sauce, curry aioli, honey mustard sauce, chipotle mayo, and mango-ginger chutney
- cocktails: Mai-Tais, gin and tonics, orange blossoms (plus anything else we can figure out to make with rum, gin, Cointreau, tonic water, grenadine, almond syrup, orange, grapefruit, and lime juices - we just got a new cocktail recipe book for Christmas!)
- midnight toast: Moet champagne
I'm pumped! If only I didn't have a grant application to write tomorrow...
