I wrote a post about making home made baby food for my six month old here., and I was wondering what the experience of other foodie parents was. Did you, or would you make baby food for your own kid? If you do or did, did you season it (even though most "experts" warn against using anything but pure, plain foods in baby's foods, eschewing salt and sugar and any herbs or spices)?
I didn't make baby food for my first daughter, seventeen years ago, in large part because I was surrounded by disapproving family members. But this time around, being older (42) and more experienced and knowledgeable about nutrition, food and cooking, I am going for it. What I am seeing is that my second daughter is much more into her solid food and eating than her sister ever was. And after tasting the jarred food from back then, vs, the fresh foods I am making now I can see why. That jarred stuff, in addition to lacking a lot of vitamin and mineral content because of the high heat at which it is processed, tastes icky.
So, what are your thoughts on homemade baby food?

hi everybody,
I have to say, first off, that i am greatly inspired by all the fabulous recipes i find on this community. At the moment i'm living in a backpackers hostel in london and sharing a kitchen with 100 other people (!!) so my culinary adventures pretty much consist of deciding which can of soup to heat up, but i'm looking forward to getting back home in the new year to my mum's amazing kitchen and posting up some pictures here for you.
In the meantime, i have a special request: i'm making a recipe book for a dear friend of mine as a christmas present. She's 6 months pregnant (yay!) and therefore there will be another, chubby lil mouth to feed in the not-too-distant future. What i would love to know is: does anyone have any particularly wonderful and healthy baby food recipes they'd like to share? i want to put a little section in the recipe book (soups, meat, fish, baby's first recipes etc) and i'd love to have your recommendations. I asked my mum what she fed me when i was a baby and she replied "mashed brains mixed with strawberry yoghurt - you loved it."
gah!
so, any suggestions would be very greatfully received. thank you in advance :D
