what can i do with this? i got it mostly because it was gorgeous, and i love the smell. i'm going to try it in my chai. there were also a few mango and rolls purchased, but i ate them, OM NOM NOM

Mmm.. I'd love a bag of black mustard seeds that size- love those things!

You can do a lot with star anise- try making a poaching liquid out of water, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, star anise, black pepper corns and throw in some of those black mustard seeds while you're at it ;) Bring to a boil and use to poach chicken breasts- delicious :)

You could put some of the anise in a strong but unflavored liquor for a few weeks/months and make something akin to sambuca :)

Star anise is one of the usual ingredients in Chinese Five-Spice Powder, along with regular anise.

They make an interesting looking potpourri all by themselves, put them in a little bowl in your bathroom and smack them every now and again to release some scent.
