Think I have a shot?
So I'm not sure how many of you have been watch but Food Network has a new show called Ultimate Recipe Showdown, where real people submit recipise and have a chance to win 25 grand!

So, I've entered in my cookie recipe and I really want your opinion and if I even have a shot. I do have a picture of the cookie, but it's so blurry you can't see it. :\ So, does hte recipe sound like porn heaven to you guys? Feel free to try it and tell me if you think it has a chance. :] I also entered my bruchetta and my buffalo chicken bites.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Toffee Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup soft butter
1 cup packed dark brown sugar [I prefer the richness of the dark brown sugar]
1/2 cup white sugar
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups of quick cooking oats
3/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup toffee bits

Preheat the oven to 325 degress and get your cookie sheet ready to go. I use a Slipat so I don't need to grease. Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt and set aside. Cream the butter and both types of sugar until creamy and fluffy. Add the eggs, vanilla, and honey and mix until well combined. add the dry ingredients and mix until they're just mixed. Add the oats, chocolate chips, and toffee bits and fold them in well. Drop walnut sized rounds on to your cookie sheet and bake for about 12 minutes and cool on a wire rack.

Soooo, sound good? Sound yummy? I hope I hope I hope....

Mmm, sounds good to me. I am saving this; I want to make them. I may have to stop at the grocery store on the way home and make them tonight.

I hope you are watching the show carefully and studying what wins. It is not necessarily the dish that tastes best, but which appeals to the people making the decision. Not necessarily the judges. Just saying.

That being said, this looks yummy enough to appeal to a wide section of the public and easy enough for normal people to prepare. Go for it!

o0o good luck. those cookies sound really good. I may try to make them. I tried to convince my mom to tryout for it but she's not really good under pressure. If she got on, she'd probably start cursing the food out or something.

Those sound like good cookies, but frankly, having seen a few episodes of the show recently, I don't see much in the recipe that will catch the eye of the producers. All of the recipes I've seen were really different from the standard idea of the category. Did you see the pasta one? The "lasagna" was the winner. I put that in quotes because it was fried rounds of breaded eggplant put on a plate, topped with a cold pasta salad (and the pasta was the "mini lasagna" shape). Maybe it was the best tasting dish there that day, but it certainly wasn't lasagna by any definition I've seen.

I think if you want to go for the chocolate chip cookie path, you'll need to have some crazy ingredient like bacon or chile powder...or mix banana into the dough...something like that.

I agree, having watched a few episodes myself as well. Think "over the top"- maybe maple/oatmeal/bacon, or chocolate/ancho chili- and you're headed in the right direction. :)

Can't wait to try your recipe out!

Bacon is unreasonably good in chocolate chip cookies. I have a lot of bacon in the fridge atm, I think I may make some of those as well.

Yay baking weekend! ^___^

Yeah, I'm inspired now: gots no bacon, but I have some lovely maple syrup. You've obviously put bacon in cookies before- any tips on how to add the stuff?

ETA: Found a recipe here.

I think the person who runs that site is a member of this community :/

I've had them with both regular bacon and the crumbled ham/bacon stuff that usually goes on Hawaiian pizzas. With regular bacon you cook it first (fairly crisp so it doesn't just turn to mush), let it cool, then crumble it up into pieces about the size of the chocolate chips. About half a cup is a good amount - you want the flavour to be there but not to be overwhelming. It's fun to see people try them for the first time - at first they're like 'you've got to be kidding me!' but generally they like them.

The ham/bacon stuff you can just add like you would the chocolate chips, it doesn't need to be cooked or anything.

One of my friends made a very tasty 'Mexican chocolate chip cookie' with cinnamon, cayenne, and... something else, I think. They were pleasantly spicy the first day but by the third they'd rather heated up. ^_^ it was a pretty neat effect!

I actually work at T.G.I Fridays, so I kinda get the show on the isde more than most.

The recipes that win are based upon how easily they can be prepared and condensed to work in food prep, however, the cookies from this season's aren't going on our menu. So the cookies are actually going to be a different thing all together.

The eggplant pasta is fantastic btw. So is the peru chicken. Yum.

Yah, I was watching the hamburger challenge last night and knew right away that the duckburger wasn't going to win. I couldn't see that showing up at Friday's.
