Tomorrow is my birthday so I've been doing the rounds with family and friends. Mostly going out to eat. Food is the way to celebrate you know.
Today's meal was lunch at VegiTerranean, Chrissie Hynde's new (fall 2007) vegan restaurant in the northside district of Akron, Ohio (USA).
I went with my Mom and my sister and my baby niece. We enjoyed the food, and decided that we'd certainly go back again.
My mom started with the Creamy Squash Soup which she liked very much. She said that it was a little bit spicy. My niece ate some of it until she maybe got an extra spicy bite and wouldn't have any more.

She followed that with a salad, the "Warm Field Greens with Sun Dried Cherries, Candied Walnuts, Vegan Cheeses with a warm Balsamic and Orange Blossom Vinaigrette" She got it without being warm.

My sister had the "True Rockin' Burger" veggie burger. And the "Chrissie promises… 'Best Fries you've ever had'" They were good, not amazing.

I had the "Tuna Salad" I don't know why they don't call it chickpea salad or cici bean salad or something. But that's how it is. I've never had or made this, and I've been meaning to. Their version was very tasty. The multi-grain bun was nice and toasty, but not too crisp. All of the salad stayed nicely on top of the bun. It was well-flavored and the chickpea and onion combo reminds me of eating at a southern Indian restaurant and getting the Channa Batura that comes with the onion and lemon on the side. They do go well together. I also had a side of their mashed potatoes and white beans with rosemary and garlic. They were delicious. A little lumpy, but plenty creamy. You could recognize the beans but they weren't overwhelming, the potato skins were mixed in and visible and it all worked very well together. There was a little drizzle of some kind of balsamic sauce on the plate which tasted nice on the potatoes as well and gave it a bit more of a savory tang.
