Devil's Food Cupcake with Strawberries

We're new owners of a Wii (wii've finally found one!) and things have gotten very busy, that we've employed our teddy bear to work in the kitchen:

Haha.  And have resorted to boxed cake mixes (this is Devil's Food Cake poured into cupcakes for easier serving...emphasis on EASIER).  Our "Teddy" channeled Sandra Lee and her semi-homemade strategy and "made" this:

Very Valentine-ish.

What are you doing for V-day tomorrow?  Eating out or cooking in?  [Or having a singles/couples party?]  My boyfriend is cooking me dinner -- hurray!

I am cooking for my BF: braised lamb shanks with gremolata, on a bed of polenta, steamed asparagus or artichokes, a salad with blue cheese, and a dessert - I'm leaning toward lemon curd with berries mixed in.

Thanks!
Actually, I made orange curd last night and it was all I could do to not eat the whole thing right then and there. I'll layer it with blueberries right before serving.

We couldn't get reservations till 11 PM, so we decided to cook together instead. We are making crab-stuffed filet mignon with whiskey peppercorn sauce, twice-baked potatoes, strawberry brie salad with poppy seed dressing, and super fruity Spanish sangria. (I will be posting pictures!)

11? Yikes! Sounds like you got the better deal with your menu, though. :)

I'm cooking dinner in for my fiancee'. Crablegs w/ bacon wrapped scallops. Homemade garlic bread. And cheesecake for dessert. So much better than fighting for a reservation out.

I agree! We had dinner out last year and I hated feeling like I have to leave just because people were waiting!

We are cooking together. Attempting Emeril's Crabmeat Ravioli with red pepper cream sauce and braised asparagus. Making the pasta from scratch too.

I am hoping that my boyfriend can locate some chocolate covered strawberries for dessert ('twas my only request!) ;)

I don't know how difficult strawberries might be to come by where you are right now, but chocolate-covered strawberries are pretty easy to make! My favorite recipe takes 1/2 bag of chocolate chips (which would be about 6 oz, I think) melted in the microwave (30 second intervals, stirring in between), with a tablespoon or two of Framboise (raspberry liqueur) mixed in.

Then just dip the strawberries and let them cool on wax paper.

I usually end up melting almost all of the chocolate, though, and making the coating really think or using it for something else.

I've also melted a little white chocolate the same way and drizzled it over the dark chocolate coating, just to be fancier.

: )

I saw some at Whole Foods last night (the strawberries), but as lizsname said, you can just make some. I'm going to do that later tonight too.

I just got a Wii on Sunday from Toys R Us. I can't stop playing it!

I'll probably eat in - or treat myself to something, even though I'm sure all the restaurants that are worth anything will be packed.

We've been very good with playing. We're not so hooked as we expected we would be! We didin't even open it until the next day after buying it. Haha. I guess we're both afraid to get addicted.

I didn't play it the first night either- it was still in the box. I was afraid of breaking it, truth be told. I play it maybe three hours a night when I get hoe from work. But! Once I'm done, I'm worn out and ready for bed.

Heh, we got a Wii as a surprise wedding/Christmas/both birthdays gift from one of my husband's friends. It's so much fun! But man, the games are EXPENSIVE! Then again, I'm used to buying used PS2 games for like $15-20.

We're cooking together for V-Day. Conveniently enough, my husband's birthday is February 12, so we went out to dinner last night (Chez Panisse! Woo!) and are staying in tomorrow. We're making Beef and Pork Ragu Lasagna, which is the most amazing lasagna I've ever had in my life. (I just spent almost 2 hours mincing up all the meat by hand!) We're even making the pasta from scratch, though this will be the first time for that part - usually I just buy the noodles. I'm also baking parmesan herb bread and some super-light coconut macaroons. Yummm. :)

edited to fix html.

Hehe...I hear ya. I was going to grab a game right away but when I saw the $49 tag price I said, maybe we'll wait a bit till the Wii Sports get old. We don't play that much anyway (for now!).

You lucky girl! I bet dinner was really good at C.P. Have fun making the pasta from scratch -- I have yet to try that.
