what a seafood deprived g/f makes when her seafood-avoider b/f occasionally says Yes to it
Shrimp Stir-Fry:

He doesn't like mushrooms and seafood, among other things, so the rare chance that he will muster up the taste buds for seafood, I'm on a mad scramble to cook it before he changes his mind!  Haha.  [The recipe is available here]

Does your significant other, housemate, family, etc. detest/avoid food that you love?  If so, what are they?

luckily, my boyfriend is a cook and is all about trying things and attempting to learn to like them. it's a necessity in his field. when we first started dating, there were a lot of things he didn't like (like most fish, mushrooms, avocados...) but as he becomes a better cook (and he lives with a pushy broad like me) he's gotten over most of those things. it's a double-edged sword though, because i used to get the whollllle avocado to myself. not anymore!

however, he HATES olives. will not eat them. and i friggin love olives. we're are working our way through getting over our fear of making yeast breads and i really wanted to make a kalamata french bread and he refused. ugh, men.

Haha! Well I guess I should be happy I still get the whole avocado to myself. :)

My boyfriend hates olives, too! Yeast bread, huh...for some reason, yeast freaks me out. So weird. lol.

Nothing, actually, most of us love them.

My suspicion is that you people with these picky SO's have encountered that special, spoiled type - Mommy never made them eat anything they didn't like and always got them what they wanted, so they learned to like only what the clown sold.

I know, harsh. Still. If they never ate anything different then they won't ever learn to like anything different.

My SO will not eat olives or avocados. I will not touch anything that has ever contained a mushroom or cilantro. We have a working deal that if I don't buy the stuff he won't eat, he won't buy the stuff I won't eat. I miss my olive pizzas.

see, i'm the annoying significant other-- i'm all kinds of picky. i consider myself a foodie, but i have some rather intense sensory issues and will literally gag if something doesn't feel right in my mouth. makes me mildly irritating to deal with, i admit, but i'm quite good at telling what i can and can't eat and go from there.

Mine is allergic to cheese, and consequently has an aversion to pasta, since it is most often combined with cheese. He also hates olives, which seems to be quite common on this thread.

Amazingly, we do all right with this, and I think it mostly has to do with comparisons on my part - my previous boyfriend was a vegetarian, and my flatmate is allergic to ALL dairy and really only eats chicken and fish. So after those, no cheese or olives is a snap!

My b/f doesn't like tomatoes, bananas, artichokes, avocadoes, eggplant and various other things I like to cook with.

On the flip side, I can't stand chilli, which he is obsessed with.

My boyfriend doesn't like goat cheese! It breaks my heart, to be honest. He'll eat it sometimes but gets grossed out.
On the other hand he love raw garlic, SPICY food (cayenne on everything), and feta cheese. All of which I can't handle.

That's hilarious as Greek Feta is essentially, Goat Cheese. Albeit mixed with sheep's milk, but still, goat cheese.

Yup, a mix of goat's and sheep's milk.

MOST US made feta is made from cow's milk though. So you have to read the label to see which you're getting. Personally, I think the goat/sheep blend tastes way better than the cow milk.

Tee hee! I think WINE tastes like feet. I didn't know anyone used that description to describe taste but me.

I LOVE feta and HATE plain goat cheese. Mostly I dislike the mushy texture of goat cheese - I'd rather eat ricotta or mascarpone.

My fiance dislikes most things "mixed together". I put that in quotes because he's really weird about it: fried rice with veggies, omelets with filling, quiche, lasagna (also because he hates ricotta), jambalaya (but likes paella??)

He also hates all types of squash, fruit in savory dishes, gravy (other than fried chicken with white gravy), all types of beans...

He loves canned green beans :(

I'm pretty lucky. I'm not a fan of eggplant or zucchini, but neither is he. I'm a vegetarian, though, and he still craves meat sometimes. He's really good about trying new things (he'd never had an artichoke until he met me, now he asks for them on pizza, in salads and pasta...), and if he eats meat, he only does so when we go out for dinner or he's at his parents' house.

I'll admit to being the "strange" one. I can't eat quiche, tofu, or any meat substitute that has that, ya know, wet spongy feeling. Immediately triggers my gag reflex.

My husband's "allergic" to garlic, onions, anything from that family. I'm not sure it's an actual allergy, because it only makes him queasy. It's been hard for me because all of my savory recipes start with onions and garlic. After 4 years of marriage his tolerance for onions has gone up, so I've started to use them again, but they either have to be tiny or big enough to pick out. I used half a clove of garlic in a recent recipe though and he acted like I was trying to kill him. He does love many prepared foods that have garlic fairly far down in the ingredient list.

I blame his mother though. We have a son and when he had teething pain at 4 months she wanted to stick a raw onion in his mouth and told me she did it to all her kids. She also weaned my husband at 6 months onto a garlicky, oniony fish soup. I love her soup, but for such a small baby?

Yeah, it sounds like mom is to blame for the queasy feeling. What a strange food to wean a child on...

I only recently started like onions, and it was after years and years of slowly integrating them into foods. The base of all Greek food is onion - often there is more onion in Greek food than any other ingredient. But most of the time, you can barely tell. I ate a lot of Greek food, and slowly because more willing to use onion in other recipes. Now, I can't have too many onions on anything.

My husband hates.... potatoes.

Seriously. The only form he likes is skinny fries and maybe hashbrowns, the shredded kind.

No mashed potatoes, no roasted potatoes, no baked potatoes, no cheesy potato skins.

He says you cannot cover up the taste of their blandness. What?!? So I make a LOT of rice and cous cous.

He also doesn't like artichokes, but it's just because they take so long to eat. If I cook it and put it in front of him, he will pretty much eat it.

Consequently, he adores olives of all kinds at all times. Yay for that!

I guess I'm lucky... my husband isn't very picky, and he'll always try things even if he thinks he doesn't like them. However, he really detests cooked carrots. That puts a damper on much soup and roast beef and stir-fry production, but I've found ways around it. He used to hate brussels sprouts, too, but it turns out he'd only ever had overcooked ones. Now he loves them, because I usually roast or saute them with lots of other yummy flavors. :)

I can usually make my fiance like things he doesn't usually eat--usually. He wasn't big on beets but I made them all tender with parsnips and carrots and tarragon and he loved them. I think he'd never had a fresh beet.

It's weird, mostly he doesn't like when his food mixes...he's very methodical about eating sides and main dishes separately, whereas I like to mix everything up and combine it. He's also not big on food with an odd texture, but he will try anything at least once, which is a huge part of why I love him :-)
