9:34 am [unwilly]	A bit of an update We have a new member, Dzurlord. Nice to have a new member. If you are doing a Slime run, or want to do one, check out the KOL Forums, they've got some good tips and chat macros that will make things quicker. I'm back to ascending again, as I need to finish up all the Sea skills, and get all the new items from the Turtle Tamer and Seal Clubber updates. So, I'll be in clan chat more often over the next couple of weeks. Do drop into chat if you want a bit of conversation. (Comment on this)

3:30 pm [yendi]	Slime Tube Run? unwilly and I did a Slime Tube run. It's not as complex as Hobopolis, but it's got some fun stuff. It rewards folks with high +Monster Level items, and it has a new mechanic involving slime (which does damage inversely related to the number of turns of the effect that's left), but has some nifty items and rewards. The run costs 250K. I'd like to do one more (maybe two) before I hit level 30 and ascend. Anyone up for one? I've put 50K in the clan coffer -- if four more folks do so, we've got enough for a run. 9:37 am [unwilly]	State of the Clan--Sleepy Well folks, it looks like interest in KOL is waning. We have more inactive players than active ones. Y'all napping? Just to perk things up you might want to ascend and go Disco Bandit or Accordion Thief. There are dozens of new pickpocket only items. It has been fun discovering them. Today someone found out that the Guy Made of Bees has one--handful of bees. Nifty, eh? The new familiar of the month is the Bandersnatch, and it has some very funny material when you perform combat actions, and you can get a jub jub bird from the Arena that tunes it to your Main Stat. Well worth picking up. I'm using it for part of my 100% familiar runs. I finished my first solo run at Hobopolis. It took forever, but I managed to get a fair number of drops to fill up my display case. Unofficially I now have the 7th most complete set of items in KOL. If anyone wants to start doing clan runs again, or bust out a solo run of their own, just let me know. (8 Comments |Comment on this)

10:32 pm [unwilly]	All your KOLs belong to me I broke into the Display Case Top Ten. I now have the 9th most complete collection of items from KOL. When I started trying to get every item I was in the high 200's and I didn't start buying Items of The Month until last year. I'd been hanging out in the top 20 since, July 28th. With the occasional hobo run and the new Sea area I finally was able to catch up to the early game adopters. I think I'll be 8th by the end of the weekend, but I'll likely never get any higher as I'd need 40 more items to get to 7th, and many of those are either not available at any price, or in the hundreds of millions of meat. I have my hobo code binder on me (full), and all of the things needed to get me thru the tunnel once the grates are open, so delve down and open those grates. 6:27 pm [unwilly]	State of KOL I was very pleased at the final(?) bit of Crimbo with the attack of the Crimbomination. I was the first person in all of KOL to log on after rollover, so I got first crack at it. After two failed attacks, I figured out the trick and put the monster down for some 330 turns. Very expensive in magical mystery juice to keep up the attacks. Sadly, I got pushed off the leader board this morning. I hope there is some epilogue after rollover tonight. I spent New Year's Eve in /games last night and that was a good time. Bank Of KOL, probably one of the 10 richest players showed up and gave away 2 million meat. Radio GKOL also gave away 3 million meat and a Mr. A. I won a couple of dozen ARs and some trivia. My big grab of the evening was another Throbbing Rage Gland from player TheSpiritofCrimbo. With the end of Crimbo I'm up for another hobo run, and perhaps finishing up the newest section of the sea. (Comment on this)

12:23 pm [feste_sylvain]	New Hobopolis Run As I wend my way to my last Level 30 trophy (as a Sauceror), I have defeated the Naughty Sorceress and am now in the Haunted Bedroom buffing up all my stats to optimize plundering The Sea. But I also have a full hobo code binder now, so next week may be a good time to start another Hobopolis run. My goals would be to get Frosty's Arm (if we get Frosty's Arm) and a bowl of fishyssoise and some other bit of miniboss equipment that I could smash into an epic wad in order to get Rodoric to make a Staff of the Deepest Freeze. Oh, and any pieces of the Ol' Scratch outfit. And a marinara jug. And more of the hobo tattoo. That looks like more than one run's worth of goals. If unwilly is not interested, do we have anyone who could defeat Hodgman? My understanding is that the spell that comes along with the miniboss outfit for your class is the best way of doing that, but (as I alluded to earlier) I don't have the appropriate outfit. 10:08 am [unwilly]	I can haz stuff? NO The new "no drops for you" policy for the Sea and Crimbo is really turning me off of KOL. As a completist it has become clear that I cannot play enough turns to get items, nor can I afford to use real money to fund buying things. I've gone from 13th on the DC Data Base to 19th. The only saving grace is that none of these items are necessary for gameplay. But, since I conquered "the game" years ago, that doesn't matter to me. New items and new areas are the only reason to keep playing. And I see that the next Sea area requires getting 50 more sand dollars, to get a map and to use items in that area to make Maki/sushi, requires burning hundreds of more turns. I think around 1000 turns would be required to get all those items. I think I may have to simply start the Sea area over and progress down. But, as I've already seen those areas, my interest in doing that is very low. Merry Crimbo, my ass. (3 Comments |Comment on this)
9:34 am [yendi]	New item There's a new elf (the whistle-carving one), and he has two drops: Limbos Gingerbread (which is a damned fine food drop), and some sort of knife. Even with the Bounty Hunting Rig, a fairy, and some buffs, the drops are tough to come buy (as are the elves themselves -- although if you have Transcendent Olfaction, it helps a lot). 10:56 am [feste_sylvain]	State of the Hobopolis Run I (cyferpunk) have defeated Ol' Scratch, obtained a copy of Elron's Explosive Etude, and put Ol' Scratch's trousers and shield up for clan distribution. I would like to aid Elvin in obtaining enough hobo nickels to get a hobo binder, but that Disco Bandit only has 197 Muscle, and Ol' Scratch's stove door (the shield which deals 40-50 hot damage to attackers) requires 200 Muscle to wield off-hand. Now that I have obtained more than 1000 hobo nickels, I will be trying to shop for a hobo monkey. My own binder is only half-full, so I have stumbled the first few times I've tried to shop for it. But I am now big enough to defeat the roving gang of hobo muggers, so this is only a matter of time. We have all of the side areas open: Sauceony is clearing out the sleaze area, and CADude is clearing out the stench area. Once I get my monkey, I'll be taking on either cold or spooky, with only the occasional side-trip to sleaze (if it's still open) to get more lewd playing cards. We don't have critical mass for the tent, so I don't see any problem with me and Elvin doing more combat in the central area at this time. Besides the monkey, my other goals are to complete my Frosty outfit (one more outfit component, which I can zap), potentially start on the Ol' Scratch outfit (if one of us doesn't have a better claim on the trousers), and perhaps get a Hodgman side-bit which can turn hobo power into item drops. What are your goals? (Outfits? Hobo tattoos? Musical instrument? We won't finish fast enough for some of the splufty Hodgman loot...) (6 Comments |Comment on this)

9:54 pm [unwilly]	Last call for hobo run We seem to have hit a lack of interest in hobo runs. We are two people short of our usual group. Would anyone else like to toss their 150k in and play? If no one else would like to play, then I'd like to ask the people who have already paid, Cypherpunk, Sauceony, Elvinborn and me, to toss in a a mere 50k. 12:22 pm [unwilly]	Fish Food! If you went Myst sign, check out Chez Snoote in Little Canadia today and get the Daily Special, the fish item will prevent you losing turns in the Briny Deeps. I bought out my consumption limit and managed to get about 9 of the fish weapon drops. Those are selling for around 100k each, so you can make some serious meat. Make sure to use all item buffs and item drop potions and put on your scuba gear before you go diving. (Comment on this)
