WELCOME TO FM WORLD BEAT
FM World Beat is an international/foreign music sharing community.

What kind of music is this community focused on?

Any music, from any genre, that is in a language other than English, from anywhere in the world.

Folk/roots/traditional music from predominantly native-English-speaking countries (like the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand).
For instance, zydeco or English folk music such as Eliza Carthy.
But NOT such artists as Kylie Minogue, U2, Crowded House, or Radiohead.

Music in English that is from a non-predominantly native-English-speaking country.
For example, the Lebanese band Blend, who mostly sing in English.

Obviously, "world music" is an annoyingly vague term, but for the purposes of this community, please adhere to the above guidelines. We don't want this community to become just like any other LJ music community; we'd like people to be able to come here and discover music that they don't usually come across elsewhere!

Please read this post as it has important information, and if anyone has any additional questions regarding uploading sites, uploading formats etc, just feel free to leave a comment and we will be happy to get back to you if we can help.

Also, we know international music can be quite expensive in most parts -- it's almost twice the price of regular disks where I am! -- but please try and support the artists if you enjoy their music. It works out better for everyone at the end.

POSTING RULES
★ 1. DO NOT request anything without posting something in return.
A. Such posts just kill the whole idea of the community. After all, we are here to share music! So please be sure to upload an album if you are requesting an album, or a song for a song in return. All posts with no uploads and only requests will be deleted. You have been warned! We are not being unreasonable with this rule, as all of us can find music to share one way or another, so please follow it.

2. Please remember to use an LJ-cut if you are posting multiple albums in one post! This will save people space on their friends pages, and also make the community's main page load more quickly.

3. Tag your posts with the name of the artist and the artist's country. Please don't tag with names of genres or instruments -- artists and country names only! Use this format for the tags:

About: The beautiful young singer describes herself as a country girl and as such, is more interested in rural styles like the funana, bataku and the European, colonial-based mazurka than in the more urban morna, a barroom blues associated with the elder diva. Her songs, many of them self-composed, deal with small-town realities like a mother's advice to her son in hard times, an unplanned pregnancy, uninhibited holiday celebrations and other tales that might well be discussed on a neighbor's door-step. This is not to say that she is a narrow-minded provincial or hide-bound traditionalist; her arrangements are paragons of acoustic elegance, owing as much to R&B, Argentinean tango, post-Tropicalia Brazilian pop and French chanson as hometown firesides. Her voice, a clear mezzo-soprano-to-alto, ranges from girlish to smoky but as her material tends toward upbeat rhythms, it is her sun-drenched, precisely calibrated melodic sense and crackerjack phrasing that anchors each tune. Notes: We realise this seems like a lot to do for a music sharing community. However, we feel that more in-depth posts go a long way, particularly as most (or all) of the posts are about an artist some people haven't heard of before. The other moderators and I all love music, but we also love getting to know the artists, and their techniques and musical style, too.
