I'm originally from southern California, but I may be moving to Florida in the next month or two, so I was wondering if there were any lolis in or around the Space Coast area (more specifically Cocoa Beach) of Florida? Also, if there were any loli/anime conventions close by in this later part of the year? Nice to meet you all! ^^

I have been into the fashion since...well lets just say for a long time. I have been out of the loop for the last year and a half due to some personal items and life changes that have come up, but I hope to be more active now. Let see I follow more along the classic lines and try to stay away from the sweet lolita clothing (i am just not a sweet lolita person). I am a professional seamstress and baker. I love tea parties and love to cook for them. I do commissions for custom clothes and custom cakes. If you've hosted a panel before that would be preferred, but anyone willing to work with me to make this is success is welcome!

Also, to everyone who has offered to model - could you please comment with your email so I can contact you? Since Leilani isn't hosting anymore, we don't have a classic or shiro model anymore, as well as a sweet lolita model. lotusx, would you like to model sweet instead of kuro?

And one last announcement - the panel will now be on Sunday, since Saturday conflicted with too many things. Or if you're one of the people who have already volunteered for one of these styles, please tell me if you're still planning on coming. ^^ We would love to have models for aristocrat, boystyle, casual, and punk. But if you would like to do any other style, let us know!

If you're undecided about coming, I assure you that we're making this panel as not-boring as humanly possible. Tickets go from $14.50 to $70.

If there's enough interest, we should definitely do it! :D I've never organized a lolita meetup before though, especially not something that should be coordinated out a little in advance (getting seats near each other and all), so if anyone would want to help/offer some advice with that, that would be awesome.

Palm Bay/Melbourne or around there?

A friend and I have recently been plotting a loli meetup for any lolis besides ourselves (and we sincerely hope there's more than the two of us plus two more of our loli friends :x) in Melbourne and Palm Bay (and anywhere around there) Florida. We'd like to have a tea party picnic at Bean Park (1208 E. Melbourne Avenue - you know those three parks in a row, all by the river and the boat docks? Some people call them "Manatee park") on Saturday, March 8th!

Soooo... anyone, anyone? Here's the official community with a lot of other plans and stuff up - sugar_and_loli

And if all goes well, we intend to keep planning meetups!

x-posted to egl, florida_lolitas, florida_egls, and sweet_tea_party

FL Meetups

Yes, that's right. I said meetups, plural. lol So basically, a few of us have decided to plan two meetups one is relatively soon and we are also jumping on the bandwagon and planning a weekend stay at a bed and breakfast later in the fall. I'm looking for some input to choose the best dates and plans for everyone.

So first up is the Labor Day meet. First of all what day is best for everyone? Sunday or Monday?
Someone mentioned Infusion Tea, so I thought we could do that at about 1PM because personally, it's been forever since I've had tea. Also, I don't know if it will still be in theaters, but I thought we could go see Becoming Jane. If anyone else has any ideas, please speak up!

I'm hoping that we might have quite a few lolitas show up for this since it's a whole weekend and it's planned so far in advance. Significant others or others in general are most welcome.

The weekends I'm thinking are:
Oct 26-28
Nov 2-4
Nov 9-11

I may have more weekends in October open, but I'm waiting to find out about other plans. There are a few B&B's that are cheaper in October, so if we choose one of those hotels, I would prefer October because they are significantly cheaper.

Now, for the Bed and Breakfasts. There are quite a few to choose from in different locations. I tried to choose ones that are between central and south FL. A lot ended up closer to central and closer to the Gulf side of FL. However, if anyone has found any other options, please let me know. I tried to keep the rates somewhat reasonable, but make sure that they were very nice places. Most have at least a few rooms that are $200 or less and all are based on double occupancy. There are a couple of places that take about $15 dollars off or so for single occupancy. If we have enough people, especially if we have enough to take over the whole inn, we may be able to get a better rate. Also, after we decide on a place, I will find out if they have any accommodations for any of the rooms to sleep more than 2 to make it more affordable if anyone would like. They are listed in each location cheapest to more expensive.

Mt. Dora
http://www.christophersinn.net/
http://www.lakeside-inn.com/rates.cfm
http://www.magnoliainn.net/rooms.htm
http://www.heroncay.com/

The last place is absolutely gorgeous, but possibly out of our price range.
Activities include:
There is a lovely downtown that we can explore with many fantastic restaurants, craft stores, and general shopping. I believe there is also a spa and I'm sure there is teahouse. It is also not far from Orlando, so if we run out of things to do we can always travel there.

Sarasota
http://www.cypressbb.com/rooms.html

This place seems to be the nicest for the price.
Activities include:
http://ringling.org/
http://www.sarasotaballet.org/
Pirates Cove - Mini golf & video games
Selby Botanical Gardens
Fallen Pine Ranch Miniature Horses (Sarasota) (OMG mini horses tour!)
Gamble Mansion (Bradenton/Palmetto)
Also, there is also a lot of shopping as well as a beach and I'm sure a spa and a tea house. This is my personal favorite because there is so much to do here.

St. Petersburg
http://www.americasbestinnstpete.com/en/6990/About-the-Inn.html
http://www.laverandabb.com/suites.htm
http://www.dickenshouse.com/perrysnell.php
http://www.innatthebay.com/rooms.htm
http://www.larellehouse.com/rooms.html

Activities include:
The beach
http://www.salvadordalimuseum.org/home.html
http://www.ybor.org/ lots of shops and great restaurants. They also have a Gameworks, which includes DDR, ect...
http://www.stpete-pier.com/ this also has an aquarium
St. Pete is probably my second favorite choice because there is also a ton to do and I think a beach would be great if its warm enough and get to wear cute loli bathing suits.

Tarpon Springs
http://www.ashleysvictorianhaven.com/home.html

Activities include:
The Leepa-Ratner Museum of Art
I'm not sure what else, but I'm sure we can find some things to do here.

Again, if anyone has any suggestions for anything, please let me know and I will edit the post.

*GOING TO JACON (ORLANDO, FL) AND NEED A ROOM?*

Interested or planning on going to JACON in Orlando, FL, but rooming costs too much to stay for the whole weekend?

Details under cut, to keep the comm clean :B

My friend Tahler (female) and I are looking into booking a hotel room for the whole weekend (Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday) and we desperately need a third person. We were able to get a pretty good deal for the room, and it would be at either the World Sheraton Hotel on Internation Drive, a four star hotel, or one of the other very nice surrounding hotels.

The only condition is that you can bring the money up front, which is generally to be expected anyways. It would be $86 total per person between the three of us, a very good deal for three nights at a four star hotel if you ask me.
It would be very much preferable to be another female. :B

If you do this, I'll sleep on the floor to guarantee you get one of the beds.

If you, the reader, are not able to do this yourself, please help us out by asking anyone who might be going to Jacon and would be interested.
I greatly appreciate any effort on your part.

I understand that this is vague, and I will give more details to ensure you are comfortable upon serious replies or inquiries. You can reach me via email at:
silentirises@yahoo.com
Please understand that I myself am going out on a limb by trusting a stranger, too, and so would want someone responsible. Anything extra, like ebay or livejournal feedback, would be greatly appreciated but not required.

x-posted like hell

Fashion Show at AFO!

Fashion designers, listen up! Anime Festival Orlando is offering you the chance to showcase your talent and let the world see your unique designs. The Streets of Harajuku is a fashion show for upcoming and established designers to take Japanese fashion themes and turn them into their own. Draw your inspiration from the alternative fashion districts in Tokyo: take the styles of Gothic & Lolita, Fruits, Visual Kei and even traditional items such as kimono and create your own designs for a demanding public.

And of course, we’re going to need models to show off these creations!

Categories:

Street Wear (Kogal, Kodona, Fruits, School Uniform)

Gothic & Lolita (Sweet, Country, Gothic, Traditional, and such)

Visual Style (Japanese Rock, Punk, and such)

Culture Shock (Take traditional Japanese clothing and run wild with it)

Submissions will be accepted from April 26, 2007 – May 14, 2007

We ask every designer to create unique garments. Please do not submit “costumes” or copies of established designers’ work. This means that lovely Angelic Pretty dress you saw and recreated for last year’s convention can not be submitted to the show. Be original, even if it is sticking to the traditional style of the fashion. You can always put your own spin on it.

A selection committee will review all submissions. The committee will have no knowledge of who the designer is so that each entry is judged on the merits of the designs.

Selected designers will provide the completed garment shown in the photos. Designers will work with their models to determine who will provide accessories and shoes for the garments.

We would also like to encourage plus size designers and models to enter as well as male models. Many of us strongly believe that good fashion should fit all shapes and sizes and should not define a person’s gender.

Designers are welcome to submit garments they have previously created as well as take up the task of making all new pieces just for the show! But remember to be realistic. You have about two and a half months to complete everything.

Designer Application Form
Model Submission Form

Important Dates & Deadlines:

Monday May 14, 2007 – Applications and sketches / photos are due.

Friday May 18, 2007 – Designers and models will be selected and notified.

Sunday May 20, 2007 – Designer and model meet and greet (not mandatory, but the best chance to make sure you get to work with the model you want!)

Thursday August 2, 2007 – Formal dress rehearsal.

Sunday August 5, 2007 – Day of show!

I plan to have another meet and greet in June as well as an informal dress rehearsal and mandatory practice for all models one weekend in June and another in July. Designers are welcome to attend these and use this opportunity for fittings and whatever else you may need to do in person.

E-Mail any questions to the Fashion Show Director.

If you're not, please tell me. I'm going to be buying the foods this week, I need to know how much to buy. If I buy food for 10 people and only 5 show up, that's going to make me sad. ;_; I'm reserving the room at All Fired Up which is also near a Japanese tea and sake lounge, and about 5 minutes from Leu Gardens. Please see my last journal entry for details and the reason why.

It's been three weeks and no word. If I don't hear from you before the 13th, I'm going to assume you're not coming. And that makes me a sad loli.
