81 is a larger number than 32
I don't want to belittle the VT shootings or anything. Someone reading this might know someone who was killed there.
On the other hand...
WTF?
Leaving aside the thousands of soldiers that have died, just to put things in perspective, 81 people died in a single bomb in Bagdad this morning. It was the biggest of four that killed a total of 126 people. Yeah, bombings happen all the time in Bagdad. It's a war, civilians die even outside of combat zones. Anyway, they're not Americans, and it happened way the hell over there, so who cares?
In reality, there will be no huge demonstrations here about this particular bombing, hardly any about all of the dead civilians in Iraq. There will be no outrage demanding an explanation or an investigation into why it happened and how to prevent it in the future. If there isn't already, there will be a memorial placed on the Virginia Tech campus with all the names of the dead, but there won't be any such memorial in America for the civilians dead in Bagdad. Not today. Not tomorrow. Probably not ever, even though we are more directly responsible for what happens in Bagdad than for what happens in Virginia.
