Ladies, help! Ah, crap! I've never had a UTI before in my life. A home test from the drugstore tells me I'm in for a world of hurt. I've got some AZO Standard, and some cranberry juice. We'll see if those help.
Any other suggestions? Is a doctor visit absolutely necessary?
[edit] Ok, intarwebz say I should see Doc immediately, lest the infection should spread to my kidneys. There goes studying tomorrow. :/
Owwww... my wee wee hurts. :( |

Still not dead My inability to think of interesting material to post up continues, it would seem. A few things have happened or are happening shortly that are of note, however.
1) My brother has moved from Camden to about 10 minutes away, which is cool. It's going to be good being able to drop in on each other more easily, since Camden is only a little while away but in the context of getting from anywhere to there via public transport it may as well be in Tierra del fuckin' Fuego.
2) We have adopted a cat by the name of Eve. And by "We have adopted a cat" I do realise that I mean "We have been adopted as owners/food providers by a cat". I've missed having a cat and thus the past week has been very nice; even things like sorting out litter trays and so on are nice.
3) I've finished the preparation work for a small anthology zine to be given away for free next weekend when I head over to Dublin for 24 Hour Comics Day. After the day's up I'll put a PDF version online, but it looks rather swish and along the way I've learned a good bit about preparing comics for print.
4) Also involved in the learning about preparing comics for print, I've received a printed proof of the Irish Comic Challenge anthology I've worked on for the last month or two, and it looks better than I'd expected. Going to bring it with me to Dublin and see what people make of it, and possibly print up one or two hundred copies to sell.
5) I've missed two weeks worth of updates for Coasting due to 3) and 4), but should have a new page up on Friday. I've got most of the script properly fleshed out now, which is good. Almost definitely going to be a 24 page story, which suits me - I like the idea of printing it up as a booklet once it's all out of the way but that can wait until it's finished, I think....
6) I am now going to leave LJ alone and resume reading the Complete Calvin and Hobbes, possibly the best purchase I've made this year. |

I'm sure this has been posted all over the place already. I'm an old old man and i only stumble on stuff all the Cool Kids are playing with after the Cool Kids have gotten bored with it and dropped it on the sidewalk.
Me: *shuffles up to discarded toy* "HEY LOOK EVERYBODY!!! LOOKIT WHAT I FOUND!!!
Having made that disclaimer, I like this...
"Dear Red States…
We’ve decided we’re leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States with us.
In case you aren’t aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California .
To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.
We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken Lay. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.
We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.
Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they’re apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we’re not willing to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95 percent of America’s quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners), 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools, plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.
With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.
We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.
By the way, we’re taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico .
Peace out,
Blue State" |

My mind is a tad boggled by the sudden denouncing of Obama as a "Terrorist" by McCain/Palin supporters (and Mccain/Palin for encouraging this foolishness) for a lot of reasons, these two especially...
1. If Obama really IS a terrorist, then why has he been allowed to get within 30 days of winning the US Presidential Election? Why didn't John McCain warn us last year that this guy wasn't to be trusted; that he was some sort of Islamic plant?
2. If Obama is a terrorist for having served on the same education board as Bill Ayers, then under that same criterion, does that not make John McCain a terrorist for having served on the same Senate as Barack Obama? I've never seen Obama and Ayers together, I've seen McCain shake hands (unillingly) with Obama.
On a serious note, this election makes me sad. Yay, it looks like Obama is gonna win, but man...do we have to be such assholes getting there?
People saying that a candidate for President of the United States is a terrorist?
My neighbor pisses me off...

frigging media I do wish the BBC would check their bloody facts. (EDIT: Oops, the person possibly falling to their death IS in the proposed frieze - but it's meant to be ambiguous, with the guy possibly being snatched back rather than in the middle of falling) The following darkly humorous piece was going to appear at St Pancras terminal. It did have a train driven by a skeleton, and a tramp on the platform. But this has now mutated into 'a person falling to their death in front of a train'.The BBC says 'An artwork depicting a person falling to their death in front of a train will not be displayed at London's St Pancras Station.' No it won't, because it was never bloody going to be. There was no such feature in the frieze. As for the now-scrapped frieze itself, I liked it. It reminded me of Pete Loveday's work. And the scally giving the finger really reminds me of someone, but I can't place who it is. |

Do you hear that Fezzik? That is the sound of ultimate suffering. My heart made that sound when the six-fingered man killed my father. The Man in Black makes it now. |

photography course? So I'm thinking it would be both beneficial and fun to take a course in photography so I can get a better technical understanding of how it works, technique and so on. And while winter is awful pretty, I think I'd be happier with the course starting in June ;) Assuming there's room, anyone else interested in joining me? |

RAW images Not that long ago I was googling around trying to find some information on the best way to take shots of lightning with my Canon A720 IS. Successfully capturing lightning is, challenging. In my searches, I discovered a rather spiffy site that allowed me to gain a great deal more control over my camera, and essentially hack it and run a script to do the heavy lifting for me! Sweet says I. Interestingly, it also allows me to save the RAW images as well. Which brings to my actual problem/question. Does anyone out there know of a decent linux app that deals with RAW images? I've tried both dcraw and ufraw to no avail, they just don't recognize the .crw files being created by my Canon. Aaaand in my usual effort to not appear to be an idiot, I got back to the http://chdk.wikia.com/ site, and there at the bottom is this: The dcraw beginning with version 8.82 supports RAW format for A720 IS.
The version included with Ubuntu? Raw photo decoder "dcraw" v8.80
Doh! Looks like I'll have to install it by hand to make this work until Ubuntu catches up! |

If you support homeowner's associations, covenants, or that sort of thing, you deserve to suffer I'm having a hard time responding to this without committing a crime (calling for someone's murder is illegal, if I recall), so I'll just link it without further speculation as to the state of a society which permits such individuals not only to exist but to flourish: Man jailed indefinitely in an overcrowded jail for being unable to afford to resod his lawn. That's right, he's being jailed until the work gets done, but it's not going to get done because the family is broke and can't afford it. So basically he's going to stay in jail. The homeowners' association sued him, he couldn't pay, so the judge decided to throw him in jail forever. Filth. Scum. Garbage. Vermin. |
