Come, Join the Madness...
A community of writers and editors
About:Welcome to fledglingquills. “Quills” because we are a community of writers and editors, and “fledgling” because we’re all still learning. Should you choose to join us (and you’re welcome to!) you will find three types of posts in this community:

1) Story posts: These are posts of written work by our members. We strongly suggest friends-locking all story posts. This limits the access to members only and will help with copyright issues when/if anybody gets published.

We’re pretty laidback about what constitutes a “story.” If it’s creative and you’ve written it and want to share, we’ll read it. Fanfiction is definitely allowed, though if that’s your sole interest, we also encourage you to look up some of the communities devoted to your particular fandom. Works-in-progress or snippets of stories you haven’t finished yet work too. And when in doubt, go ahead and try it! If for some reason it isn’t appropriate, one of the mods will politely ask you to remove your post.

There is a basic format to story posts. It’s pretty simple, and if you check out some of what’s already in the community you can probably figure it out. The actually text of your story should go behind a cut (go to http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75 to learn how to make those). Also, we ask for three kinds of information about your story.
The first is usually titled “About this story” and it contains a short summary, anything your readers need to know before reading. If you’re posting fanfiction, this would be a good place to tell us what fandom you’re writing from, perhaps with a link or character descriptions for those of us who might be clueless about the subject.
Next, we ask that you give a rating for your story, especially if it is over PG-13, in American terms-- going by the Fanfiction.net system, that would mean any hard 'T's. If your story has a high rating, give us a bit of an idea why.
Finally, we’d like to know what you want in terms of feedback. We’re here to help each other, so tell us what parts of this story just aren’t “working” for you or what you really want us to pay attention to.

Also, we ask that any members who plan on posting multiple sections or chapters of a story make a tag for these posts so that they can be easily found.

2) Discussion posts: Another kind of posts we have are discussions of what it’s like to write, how writing works, and any other queries or gripes we have as developing writers. As long as you stick close to the topic of writing, you’ll be okay here. These posts aren’t usually locked.

3) Intro posts: Finally, you might occasionally see a new member, or an old member who’s decided to de-lurk, post an introduction. You can style these however you want, and it’s always a good idea to tell us a bit about what you like to read and write. Intro posts aren’t required, but some people find it easier to offer helpful comments if they know a bit about your background.

Last but not least, we encourage you to comment to any of the story posts with your own constructive criticism (concrit). If you just want to tell someone that you liked the story, that's great, but it's much more helpful to mention something specific that made it good writing. If you have a suggestion of something to change, try to be courteous.

Basically, no flames and no "OMG that was the best ever!!!!11one11!1!1"
