Sales Post: $300.00 (USD) Ikea gift card- Selling for $280.00 (USD)
I was given a $300.00 dollar (USD) Ikea gift card for Christmas but unfortunately the closest Ikea is in Toronto, Canada and I live Niagara Falls, NY. Aside from having to drive into Canada and pay the tax exchange (tax in Ontario is MUCH higher than that in the Niagara County), I also have a fairly small vehicle. Using the card really wouldn't be worth the effort- (I'm trying to buy a bookshelf for my living room and in order to get it home I would have to rent a truck, which would cost me even more money.) I had considered using the card for online shopping but unfortunately the cost of shipping is greater than the cost of the item itself. I would much rather use the money to buy something locally than use the card and pay massive additional fees (be it for online shopping or physically renting a truck and picking up the items I am interested in.)

I am selling my unused $300.00 Ikea gift card for $280.00 (USD). The card is still in it's original gift packaging. If you are interested please respond. I will ship world wide but I will only accept payment via paypal in USD.

* I'm also willing to do a local pickup for anyone living in the area, however I will only accept cash or paypal prior to the sale.

Can you help me find a post?

I swear I've looked and looked.

It was a living room (?) with warm yellow/goldish walls, but one wall was dark brown. The brown wall was almost completely encompassed by a couple bookcases of the same color.

The effect was really striking.

Anyone remember it? It was fairly recent.

covering kitchen cabinets?
i've been living in my apartment for a few months now, and i love it except for one thing: the kitchen cabinets. they're not bad by any means... just plain. they look like the ones [info]gendertrash posted a few entries back. (if you don't remember, click here.)

anyway, what i'm trying to ask is: what have you done to spruce up your kitchen cabinets?

We are renting right now and I am wanting to transition the room my two older child share into a shared nursery and get the baby out of our bedroom. This is my last baby and I have never been able to have the nursery that I want. We can't paint and what I really want is to have powder blue walls. I wallpapered in our diningroom and living room using fabric and starch. I was under the impression that at only $1 a yard, it would be quick and cheap to do. IT WAS NOT. I spent $50 on fabric and it took me three days. Long story short, I don't want to go there again. I heard about tissue paper on the walls, which seems easier to tackle but with the prying hands of a baby and a two year old, that would be torn off in no time flat. Any other ideas how I could get the feel I am looking for on a very tight budget?

apartment photos
I moved into my new place last month and finally took some photos. It's the first time I've not had roommates since graduating, so I'm well pleased with my little space. :D

13 photos of the front room and bedroom )

crossposted.

Edit: Oh, the Chinese scrolls and everything are from a couple of trips I made over there, once on study abroad as an undergrad and then to teach English for a semester after I graduated in 2005.

take out lamp

just found this lamp at ward kids, and i kind of love it. i'm thinking about emulating it, since it'd probably be a lot cheaper than the $25 they want for it. but i thought i would share, regardless.

Kitchen
I just upgraded my flickr, so I can start posting photos again. I am currently obsessed with my kitchen door. A few weeks ago I bought a map (sold as art paper at a local art supply shop) and mounted it to black tagboard, which I mounted to the insert in the door. I used a placemat I got at Gooodwill as the curtain, and I spray painted the curtain rod black. I realized that when I move out, I am okay with doing a little painting, and damnit if the door wouldn't look a hundred times better with black trim. I love it, sometimes I just stand there and stare at the door.

Super cheap advice needed.
So who wants to help spur ideas of genius for a fellow flat-dweller?

I live in a 710 square foot one bedroom apartment that is really nothing more than a glorified studio (there is a wall separating the "living room" from the "bedroom" but seriously, it's a studio.)  I have those disgusting beige-box walls, icky tan carpeting, and furniture that is you will never find in Ikea (got my living room set from my parents as a grad-school graduation gift so I couldn't be choosy.)  My bedroom does double duty as a design studio and a bedroom and my living room does double duty as sitting room and office.  I'll post some pictures as an edit to this post  tomorrow when the lighting in here is better.

In a little over a week my "other mom" is coming to visit me from Olympia, WA and she has never seen my apartment.  I have a reputation of being exceptionally organized and "stylish" but this apartment is so small and unfriendly that I'm much less organized and hip than usual.  I'm also unemployed as of two weeks ago so I have no dollars to spend on solutions.

So...anyone have any genius storage ideas using on-hand stuff?

Glass Color Spash
I added some hand blown glass, done by a friend to my vintage collections...the two pieces above the built in and this blue vase behind the orange pitcher.

walls.
just a tip for those who cannot paint. as in, most of us.

just like you can use tissue paper and spray starch on your windows to create a stained glass effect, you can do the same thing to your walls. i've done it in two rooms in light colors, over white walls. i wouldn't recommend doing it in a dark color because the color could bleed a little and i don't know how easy it would be to get out, but the light colors just come right off with some water and a sponge. spray the spray starch in an even coat on the area, and press the tissue paper to it while its still wet. I use a rolling pin sometimes to even out wrinkles, but I've also left them in to create a textured effect.

just an idea. plus it's way faster than fabric-ing the walls. (and since tissue paper is dirt cheap and so is spray starch, it's way cheaper than the fabric alternative as well)

Help!
I'm going to be moving into an apartment in a lovely heritage home on May 1st.
My dilemma: the walls are bright yellow & red and the landlords do not want us to paint. (yikes!)
I've got a navy loveseat, a white couch and an orange bucket chair (which I plan on covering). How can I make all these colors tie together? Pillows, sofa coverings? If so what color? The red & yellow is already so empowering that I'm clueless. I appreciate any advise.

Thanks ♥

i made my own coffee table!
So.... I took the top of a table I got off the side of the street, ordered tapered legs with brass feet from Ace Hardware, got kickplates from Home Depot that make them slant off to the side, spray painted the top with black chalkboard paint so that we can write on it, and now I have a neat new coffee table that my two year old can appreciate. Ta-da!

Anyone have experience with the Ikea day bed? It seems like the perfect apartment solution, but I want to be able to use it consistently without it falling apart, and Ikea isn't famous for workmanship.

Rule Numero Uno.
Ok, so I don't love policing community postings, but after becoming really f'ing frustrated with the bitchy attitude on saucydwellings.... I'd like to say...

If your comment to someone's posting consists mainly of "I don't like this", I will remove you from the community. I don't care if you're riding the red wave or just have a particularly nasty case of the bird flu that makes you think you can judge another person, I don't want to see you and your bad karma messing things up for other people who just want to share their homes.

Thanks.
