You do not have an excuse =) [Mar. 19th, 2009|07:43 am]

banishingbigass
Do not forget!

Appreciate what you have. Do not take it for granted. Respect your body, and use it to live life to it's fullest potential!

Just as though the blind would love for your sight,
the deaf would love for your hearing,
people unable to dance would love for your legs.
people unable to hug someone would love for your arms

someone who lost movement in entire body.. imagine.

Are you using your body as much as you could? When someone else may have no other choice, why are you just sitting there?

Be grateful for what you have, and do not let it go to waste because you are lazy. Get up and show your appreciation.

Find what motivates you -- and do it.

YOU DO NOT HAVE AN EXCUSE!! [Mar. 13th, 2009|06:01 pm]

http://fitspiration.mellissagorecki.com/2009/03/you-do-not-have-an-excuse/74

EVERYONE can always somehow manage to create an excuse for themselves.

“I can’t go to the gym, I don’t have time.”

If someone challenges that excuse, the excuse then becomes something no one can actually determine is valid or not. Such as a physical disability, whether it is visible or not.  People might complain about arthritis, hip injuries, joint problems, — or even, amputated limbs.

Well, i’m  here to challenge all of that.  Later on I will write a post regarding the benefits of exercise in relation to all the above phsyical ailments. But what about the latter?

Well, I came across this video.

Watch it, and then get your perfectly abled body to the gym.

Ballet, "Hand in Hand" (Man with one leg, woman with one arm.)

BIG NEWS! [Feb. 26th, 2009|09:52 pm]

BIG NEWS!

Hello everyone!

I am so proud of this community. When I started this journal, I was not considering how popular it would be. It began as a project between a couple friends and it grew and grew like crazy. The thing that surprised me most, was how often it was updated without me even posting new entries. :) You guys absolutely rock.

With that being said, over the past couple of months I have been brainstorming the idea of a website -- to read a much larger audience.

Unfortunately, :( , A while back I had registered the domain fitspiration.com -- and I guess I missed the re register email and someone snatched it up (this was a while back) --- so for now, the main site will be on http://mellissagorecki.com.

Fitness has now become a major part of my life -- based off nutrition and proper exercise. The site will feature many of the personal trainers, nutritionists, and other authors posting regular (daily) entries.

As off February 26, 2008 : I am still configuring the website a ton. I am playing around like crazy with it to figure out how to add all the scripting I need so do not be alarmed if for a moment you see a skull and cross bones ;) I fix these issues immediately, "Oops that didn't work..."

Please contribute to the new and exciting FITSPIRATION BLOG --- BOOKMARK! add the site to your RSS, and check back frequently. We have enough content to update daily! Feel free to leave comments on the blog site indicating new topics you might want to hear about.

I will be implementing in the future the "POINT SYSTEM" we created here in FITSPIRATION at LJ... just need to figure out how to make that work without it being way too crazy! :)

Things to look for on FITSPIRATION:
  • Ways for you to make money being an affiliate for featured programs
  • Weekly exercise guidelines
  • Nutrition and diet guides
  • LIVE PERSONAL TRAINING / GROUP CLASSES (Stay tuned!)
  • Video content - PT clips, how to prepare food, exercise
  • And of course....... more ;)
You can also follow me on Twitter @MellissaGorecki for updates.

SEE YOU AT THE NEW FITSPIRATION SITE!

My introduction!

Reason for joining:
I've been going in the right direction as far as trying to lose weight and be motivated on my own, but I figured it would be helpful and inspiring to see how other people are doing with the same issue. Also, "fitspiration" is clearly the healthier way to go over all that "thinspiration."

Current fitness/health goal: I just want to lose enough to the point where I am at a healthy weight for my age and height. I'm 21 / 170lbs / 5' 7''. I run several times a week and I can do a mile in nine minutes (I'd like to do it in eight.) People say I look like I weigh less than I actually do, so my weight doesn't concern me so much as being in shape and looking toned. I also have been playing rugby for 2 years, so that helped me initially lose weight and coerces me into working out and getting in shape.

Fitness/health weakness: I'm really lazy. I also love to eat. I think I'm pretty good at doing things when I have to (like at practice or conditioning) but it's hard to be motivating on my own. As far as my eating habits, I don't deny myself anything but rather try to moderate everything. I've also discovered that I love veggie subs and that the key to healthy eating is lathering everything in hummus. It's great. :)

Do you have and ED/fitness disorder?: I've never had an eating disorder or a fitness disorder. I'm obsessed with what I eat and how much I eat - but never enough to not eat or go to an extreme. It's the same with the fitness thing - I'm kind of obsessed with it, but not so much that I don't skip the gym or practice sometimes. It's more of like, I'm constantly thinking about how I eat and when I work out.

What do you think limits you the most in making healthy choices?: I don't think there is anything that can limit me in making healthy choices but I limit myself in my proactivity. I work so much harder at practice or when my coach is at conditioning than when I am doing something on my own. I need someone there motivating me because as much as I want it for myself - it's easier when I have to do it for other people (my teammates.)

What are you doing or have done to make the best of a situation barring you from a healthy lifestyle?: Definitely rugby. Its something I do with some of my best friends and it's just fun. There is the motivating issue of playing hard to win. Also, knowing that the more time I get on the field depends on how hard I can play and my coach notices when I'm working hard and improving on my fitness. You have to train hard to play hard and you have to play hard to win. It's more fun to play a hard 80 minutes of rugby than go to the gym and lift weights for the same length of time.

YOUR Fitspiration / a picture of a model, yourself, a quote, anything that keeps you going:
++People don't play sports because its fun. Ask any athlete, most of them hate it, but they couldn't imagine their life without it. Its part of them, the Hate/love relationship. its what they live for. They live for the practices, parties, cheers, long bus rides, invitationals, countless pairs of different types of shoes, water, Gatorade, & coaches you hate but appreciate. They live for the way it feels when you beat the team next to you by 1 pt. in overtime, & you know those 2 extra sprints you ran in practice were worth it. They live for the way you become a family with your team, they live for the countless songs you sing in your head when your running ALL those suicides. They live for the competition, they live for the friends, the practices, the memories, the pain, its who they are. It's who we are. WE ARE ATHLETES...

++It's not about just running through 80 minutes of drill work. It's about thinking of every person that has ever made you mad and finally having a way to do something about it. She can see that anger in your eyes and you can see the fear in hers. Finally, it's about getting up and looking down at her saying to yourself, "Man, I just fucked her up." - my coach

Two other things:

1) Dear mods, can you please update, change or clarify the community info? It seems to be attracting people as it is but newer members, myself included, are ignorant about the point system, etc. It would be nice if there were some links to various online fitness and nutrition resources in the user info or memories. Also, while the tag system seems rather self-explanatory, some form of concise definitions would be nice.

2) Other community members: if you’re looking for more active fitness and healthy living communities consider [info]gymrats and [info]fitbody_fitmind. Gymrats is a very detailed community that seems to be populated by more experienced people but the posts are interesting to read and I enjoy lurking in the community. Fit mind is a bit more relaxed in nature and seems rather similar to fitspiration. Enjoy!

[music |Metric- Live it Out]

Hey everyone!

I hope 2008 has been good to you this first week, and if you've made any resolutions, that they are working for you. I know that I am personally excited for my "fresh start" this year... my coming semester includes a ballet course for fun and I am looking forward to beginning a weight training routine (and stick with it!). I also plan to start riding with my university's cycling team, even though that will mean head-to-toe spandex.

Anyway... I want to share with you all a very helpful website which some of you may have heard about: Stumptuous.com
This website is amazing, it's written by and for women and is the no bullshit guide to nutrition and exercise- with a focus on weight training. If you've done the reading, and understand nutrition and health and really want to become stronger and healthier, yet are unsure of where to start your conquest of the weight room, this site will provide you with everything you need to know. Honestly, this site is amazing! The maintainer has links for everything and presents information in a supportive, yet "you better get your ass off the couch" kind of way. Stumptuous.com has provided me with motivation to start that workout notebook I've been thinking about. And the letters from readers all over the world are very inspiring!

We've always been told that lasting results come from sustained effort and constant healthy choices, and we've all heard the hells of crash-dieting (ephedra, anyone?) I am a avid lurker in various fitness communities on LJ and stumptuous always gets glowing reviews from embers. So, if you're like me and you really want to start healthy habits and break into that weight room that is oh-so segregated but you are unsure of where to start because there are so many things that you are curious about, then you should give this website a read-through!

And so this isn't text-only!

Introduction [Jan. 4th, 2008|10:12 pm]

athensqueen
I joined a week or two ago, but for some reason never introduced myself. So, here we go

+ Reason for joining: I find images of thin, healthy, fit women to be inspiring, yet I am uncomfortable with a lot of the images found on thinspiration websites. I find that they're unhealthy images for me to look at, and I don't want someone with an eating disorder to be my role model.

+Current fitness/health goal: Get into a regular fitness routine again! I was a very fit kid before grade 10, and involved in various sports on a competative level. So, now I generally want to adopt and continue a healthier lifestyle which includes exercise suited to me and my goals. I already eat well, but I lack strength (esp. upper body), a toned body, and the energy I should possess.

+Fitness/Health weakness: Being shy/insecure. I'm so anxious about people judging me while I work out, and this causes me to go to the gym once or twice, then ditch it. Luckily, where I live now has a small workout/cardio room, so I'm trying to gain confidence there before going to the gym on campus.

+Do you have an ED/Fitness Disorder?: Recovering, hence trying to avoid extreme thinspo's.

+What do you think limits you the most in making healthy choices?: Time spent on school, inability to generate a real routine in my life on any level.

+What are you doing or have you done to make the best of a situation barring you from a healthy lifestyle?: I make sure I always go with my roomates to get groceries, ensure I get simple healthy foods, and get them to stash junk in a certain cupboard I don't venture into, lol. Also, teaming up with my boyfriend (who just got back into the gym a few months ago and really knows his stuff). He designed me a personalized workout plan, ran through everything with me (machines and all) to make sure I'm doing it right. We check in on eachother, and hes a great support to keep me focused and talk to.

+Reason for joining: I've always found "thinspiration" communities' pictures to be, well, inspiring- but I don't think ed's are the right way to lose weight. This community shares my taste for health and fitness- while providing the wonderful visuals.

to change my mindset, and tweak my lifestyle in order to lose weight easily and effortlessly
to use my creativity to make weight loss and enjoyable and enriching journey

+Do you have an ED/Fitness Disorder?: no
+What do you think limits you the most in making healthy choices?: time, stress, money

is this community dead?

I imagine the answer is yes, judging from the dates of the last posts here, and that's a shame, because from the user-info this group actually looks cool. I mean, there are so many unhealthy thinspo/crazy groups around and lots of people who want to just drop a couple pounds and get healthy are sucked into "analulzomg" because they operate under the guise of "losing weight"

Anyway, I used to weight train quite rigorously when I was younger and though general malaise/stupidness quit that when I went to University. I guess I might as well post and introduction, what the hell.

+Reason for joining:
+ I seriously enjoy working out. Cycling and lifting make me feel GOOD. Endorphins are my favorite high, and I know that I am way to young to allow myself to let go. I've taken too many bio and chem classes to believe fad diets, and I want my metabolism to stay just as strong as my heart and lungs. That being said, I lost most of my upper-body tone over the year and want to regain my figure. Skinnyfat is pointless.
+Current fitness/health goal:
+ I'm 5'4" and at my prime, was less than 18% body fat and could bench press 90 lbs for my 3rm, I could run a mile in 7 minutes and could actually do bar dips/pull-ups without spotters. I've since let myself go and at my highest weight was 140 lbs. That's still a "healthy" BMI, but at the high range of average. Basically, I want to get that toned body back, I miss having cut arms and not looking like a failure with the girlie bar. So my goals are as follows:
arms: at least 3 unspotted pull ups and chin ups. need to do 30 nose-to-floor push-ups without stopping. and general weight-training with free weights and machines. Bench, incline, decline, curls and military press for starters.
legs: the consequence for gaining so much weight came in the form of cellulite in my thighs. I have since killed that, but I'd like to cut as much fatty tissue from my legs and tone them. Need to start doing squats and wall-sits again.
core and back: should be obvious- tone up. Lat pulls and situps omg!
weight: this is kind of tricky, because I want muscle tone more than anything. I want to kill excess fat in my gut and arms and try for a body fat around 19-ish% Currently, I am 120 after four months of working out and refining my diet choices. I anything below 110 would be unhealthy for me.
+ I've discovered cycling, and love my road bike. Smoking was shit for my lungs and I've quit that for good (it's been over 6 months!) So I want to start training for big group rides, like in the 100 mile range. I want endurance and long, lean muscles.
+Do you have an ED/Fitness Disorder?:
Hell no, and people who pretend to just so the can join ana/mia communities for "weight loss tips" are only screwing themselves. But that being said, I'm more than willing and in fact would love to help people with EDs make healthy fitness choices.
+What do you think limits you the most in making healthy choices?:
+ I know I'm weak, and that makes me ashamed to use the weight room at the gym. I attend a small university and often see friends/ex-boyfriends there and it just makes me awkward. Yeah.... that's pretty lame of me to chicken out like that. Also, as a full-time student with a job/boyfriend/and parties to juggle, I have a hard time picking a regular gym time.
+What are you doing or have you done to make the best of a situation barring you from a healthy lifestyle?:
+ I've cut out red meat, excess beer (still love the whiskey) and no longer eat heavily-processed foods. I have a fitday profile which is pretty silly (those things never get the calories right, anyway and you just feel good about yourself). I go to the gym when I have the time and do short/intense cardio like stairmaster and then a little of this and that- sit ups, push ups, the usual.
+YOUR Fitspiration(A picture of a model, yourself, a quote, anything that keeps you going:
+ OMG, this video is sexy sexy love. And silly as hell :D

uh anyway, I guess this was a bit long, but what's the point, huh? If you read this on your friends list, add me because that would be awesome. I have tons of questions about training for endurance cycling and nutritional supplements/etc. Buddies are lots of fun and inspiring!

Personal Training [Apr. 20th, 2007|07:51 am]

surfer_chick_01
Hi.

My name is Sarah, I've been a member of this community for a while, and I'm also a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM. I train people in the gym and at their homes, but I'm now trying to start a new business venture.. Online training. I will be starting up my own website in a few months which will be geared towards creating very individualized plans in both nutrition and workouts to reach whatever goal you may have. I will have many options for plans and prices, however I'd like to get a few people started early (at EXTREEMLY discounted rates) so by the time my website is up I can have a section of "testimonies" and "successes". I dont want to get into any details right now (only because I don't want to clog up people's Friends pages) but if anyone is interested in my services PLEASE reply and I will contact you! I will charge only $10 per plan per month for the clients (through paypal), when regularly I will be charging $50 and up depending on plans. Each plan will be very detailed. This is a great oppertunity, so if you're intrested, comment and I'll get more info to you. Thanks!

(Mods: If this isn't allowed please let me know and I'll take it down!)

HELLO EVERYONE!

Well, I dont know where to start.. so I just will. SHORT but TO THE POINT.

I am the co -founder of this community . Myself and sexyclipse went MIA for a while.

I had sort of an amish year, and excluded the computer from my life for a good while -- and to my dissapointment, FITSPIRATION has suffered. I came back in here to see so many new people with all these exciting stories to tell -- with no follow ups. Which completely defeats the purpose of this group.

Well, I am here to tell you -- starting this week, things will be up and running back to normal.
Any questions can be forwarded to my AIM: AminMeLaLL (cut and paste, dont bother trying to type it lol)

Talk to you all very soon..hopefully we can get excited about becoming healthy again. (Ive really let myself go without this community, I dont know about you guys)
