Welcome to [info]fitandfrugal! Fit and Frugal is a community dedicated to helping people on limited budgets improve their health through good eating choices and fitness.

The media is filled with articles about how the "working poor" are priced out of healthy food. The story they try to sell is if you can't spend a ton on groceries, all you will be able to eat is processed crap and be stuck in the vicious cycle of obesity. There are many of us here, though, who are living proof that just because you have a grocery budget of $200 a month does not mean you can't eat healthy, nutritious food.

So, please join us, and share your tips, recipes and support!

Resources
The maintainer recommends Calorie Count Plus for those who are trying to keep track of calories, fat and sodium. They have a toolbar for FireFox that enables you to input what you eat, as well as have a visual reminder of how many calories you have eaten today.

Others have had great success with Spark People or Fit Day.

Challenges and Theme Days

Monthly Challenges
Each month we will have three challenges : The Fit Challenge, The Food Challenge and The Frugal Challenge.

October Challenges
Fit Challenge - Exercise 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week
Food Challenge - Try at least one new fruit, veggie or other healthy food (tofu, ground turkey) a week
Frugal Challenge - Everything old is new again! Find something you are no longer using and find a way to recycle it into something to help with your fitness.

Theme days
Each weekday we will have a theme post. Each theme is to encourage activity and is in no way the only thing you can post about! It is merely a suggestion and starting point.

Menu Monday : Share your meal plan for the week, ask for suggestions, and get feedback.
Recipe Tuesday : Post your favorite recipes, or discuss how to make old favorites more healthful and cost effective
Weigh In Wednesday - For those who want to participate, we will post weekly weigh ins on Wednesday. This is for people who want to lose, maintain or even gain. Also, a good day to talk about portions and measuring food.
Tips and Tricks Thursday - Share your tips and tricks!
Fitness Friday - Talk about your workouts the past week, your fitness goals, and anything else exercise related!

Daily Accountability Thread
Every day, we will have one thread simply for people who want to share how their day went. Did you blow it? Did you have a good day? This will be a good place to share encouragement and good will.
