Although I understand Nate Fisher to be a flawed and amazingly complex character, I found his empathetic streak to be quite consistent throughout the story.
Alan Ball Working On Yet Another Series For HBO / + Icon Requests

Alan Ball bounces to 'Bad Girls'
Adapting the British series with HBO

Move over "Oz," some "Bad Girls" are coming to HBO.

The pay cable channel and Alan Ball are developing an American version of the long-running British prison drama.

Nancy Oliver and Raelle Tucker are penning the adaptation, with Ball supervising the writing.

The three will executive produce with Eileen Gallagher, co-creator of the original series and CEO of Shed Prods., which produced "Bad Girls" for ITV.

The drama, which bowed out in 2006 after eight seasons, revolves around the staff and inmates of a women's prison.

Co-created by Gallagher, Maureen Chadwick and Ann McManus, "Bad Girls" has been praised for its portrayal of the complex relationships among female inmates. Its U.S. rights previously were held by FX.

Women's prisons as a setting and foreign formats are hot this year. Fox is developing a spinoff of "Prison Break" that would take place at a female prison. The broadcast networks recently added seven new scripted series based on international formats. HBO adapted the Israeli series "In Treatment" and is shooting a pilot based on the U.K.'s "Suburban Shootout."

"Bad Girls" is among the first pieces of development for HBO's new entertainment president Sue Naegle.

It extends Ball's longtime association with HBO, where he created the acclaimed drama "Six Feet Under" as well as the upcoming "True Blood."

It also continues Ball's relationship with Naegle, who was his longtime agent at UTA before she left the agency last month to go to HBO.

Ball, an Oscar winner for "American Beauty," recently made his feature directorial debut on "Towelhead," which he adapted from Alicia Erian's novel.

Oliver, nominated for an Oscar this year for "Lars and the Real Girl," is serving as a supervising producer on "True Blood" and is adapting the novel "Handyman" for Warner Bros. and Plan B.

Tucker is a co-producer on "True Blood."

"Bad Girls" was packaged by UTA.

Source

Request: I noticed that most of the SFU icons I have are from season five.
"The Father of Embalming"

I am reading Stiff by Mary Roach right now...
After the war, [Thomas] Holmes set up a business selling his patented embalming fluid, Innominata, to embalmers, but otherwise began to distance himself from the mortuary trade. He opened a drugstore, manufactured root beer... According to Christine Quigley, author of The Corpse: A History, he shared his Brooklyn house with samples of his war-era handiwork: Embalmed bodies were stored in the closets, and heads sat on tables in the living room. Not all that surprisingly, Holmes began to go insane, spending his final years in and out of institutions. At seventy, he was placing ads in mortuary trade journals for a rubber-coated canvas body removal bag that could, he suggested, double as a sleeping bag. Shortly before he died, Holmes is said to have requested that he not be embalmed, though whether this was a function of sanity or insanity was never made clear.
Sound familiar? I nearly started crying upon reading that last part. By the way, this is a great book.

Hello, all.

(I apologize if this isn't appropriate, and moderators, please remove it, if so.)

For Christmas I received two versions of the complete series of Six Feet Under: one in the box with the grass on top of it, and Seasons 1 through 5 individually on DVD. Since the grass box was from my husband, I HAD to keep that one, and the Aunt got me the receipt too late to return the Season DVDs to the store for a refund! So, I am offering them on eBay, and I thought I would give my fellow SFU lovers in this community the chance to take a look at them.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESEX:IT&item=170195276448&_trksid=p3984.cSELL.m315.lVI

First question, is this nostalgic community simply post after post of icons and fanfic as all of my other beloved entertainment interest-based communities have become, or is there real discussion?

Today, I just finished all five seasons of Six Feet Under (not SFU, every time I see that abbreviation, the first thought is "sTfu" ...)... it took me about a month and a half despite school. This was probably the most intense, thoughtful, well made show I have ever seen in my entire life. I don't have a real point with this post, I just wanted to say hi.
There needs to be some sort of grief counseling available to people after the end of the show. It was too... real and intense. :( I feel real loss during the last four episodes. Oh well. It's over now and yet I cannot stop thinking about it, many hours later.

Anyway, bye.
