This is your last day reminder to enter Challenge 66 - Kidnapped / Textured 'Verse. The challenge will close tomorrow (Monday) night. The posted ending time is 11pm EST but I probably will not get to it till later because I'm going to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix two days before it opens, bwhaha! *cough*

Now for a community update. If you recall a little while back dark asked for your opinions on a new format for placing. Our goal was to provide more members opportunity to be awarded. A very large majority of you were in favor of the idea, so starting with the current Challenge 66 we are going to implement the new system.

Within one challenge any single icon maker can only occupy one out of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The BC award is unchanged, it can still be awarded to an icon maker who placed already. In addition, a single icon maker can still place in both a Screencap and Theme Challenge. For example, if some amazing icon maker somehow was voted to occupy every single award in both Screencap and Theme, they would be placed 1st and BC in Screencap and 1st and BC in Theme, and the runners up would be given the 2nd and 3rd places.

I understand that's a tad confusing, and my apologies to anyone who isn't in favor, but we believe this will prove to be a fair way of allowing more members to receive awards. In my experience this has always been an exceptionally friendly and easy-going community, and we encourage our members to continue that tradition as we try this out! :)

With the summer coming up, I'm going to step out as moderator. I hope I've done a satisfying job over the past seven/eight months. I'm going to hang out as a member and hopefully participate. (I used to be a good iconmaker, what happened?) Maybe one day I'll mod again since, face it, fireflyhush is the best Firefly community around town. In the meantime, Rita (xeyra) and Kaitlyn (lostcointoss) are looking for a third mod to join the team. We could use fresh blood and new ideas for screencap/theme challenges.

Hey everybody. Come check out the community's new layout! The winning header for Challenge 50 is up. It was made by lostcointoss. Also, I finally re-did the community profile. It was pretty out of date, so the rules and details are updated. In the userinfo, we're using vaguelyclear's second place header.

Challenge 50 will be going up in a few minutes, but I wanted to make a quick post and update everyone on a few minor updates.

#1 Special Voting
We're still keeping the special vote around. I mentioned this earlier, but now it's official. Instead of saying SV Best Use of Crop, Best Use of Color, and Most Creative, we're switching over to BC's: Best Crop, Best Color, Best Composition. While Most Creative sounds friendlier, I want Best Composition to be the same thing - best overall use of the theme.

#2 Other voting
We're getting rid of Icon of the Month and Icon of the Year. If anyone objects, let us know.

#3 Captain's Choice
We're still keeping Captain's Choice, but we're not going to let it depend on the amount of icons each week (the 25+ thing). If we feel liking giving one CC, we'll give one. &etc.

Also, we're always looking for new ideas or suggestions. We'd love to hear feedback from you guys. Since the mod change, have we been doing a good job? Are the challenges more interesting or more boring? Is there anything new you'd like to see?

Hey everyone! I'm sorry for the totally ridiculous delay. Challenge 41 will be posted on Sunday, November 26. Keep an eye out! Until then, I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, and remember don't do anything Jayne wouldn't do. ;) After Thanksgiving, we'll be running through the holidays, probably will holiday-themed challenge (y/n?). Also, we're always looking for new challenge ideas - both screencap and theme - so please if you have any ideas, drop a comment here (or at this post if you'd like). Hush is sometimes restrictive, but don't let that stop you. Also, I updated the profile with refreshed links to screencaps.

Lastly, I wanted to thank each of you who showed interested in being a mod here at fireflyhush. I was really glad to see so many people were still interested in keeping the community alive. You might have noticed that Challenge 41 hasn't been posted yet. I'm sorry for the delay, but I have a community announcement. I regret to announce that your two wonderful moderators for 40 challenges - killer_mocha and stargater_gal - have resigned. Both of them have done such a great job starting and running this community from day one. I intend to keep it that way! Not too long ago, I was made the third mod of fireflyhush, now I'm looking for one or two people to help me out. Ideally, I'd love to find two of you to help moderate with me. I love this community and want to keep her running, but due to school and work I can't do it alone.

I'm going to keep everything exactly how it is - layout, userinfo, challenge format - but if anyone has any suggestions and most especially new challenge ideas, please don't hesitate to throw your ideas this way. I also want to make sure with jadeleopard and megathy27 - are you still able to do winner banners? (I know you both have been, but I want to make sure!) So, I'm opening up the community to applications both for a new moderator(s) and winner banner maker(s). Comments are screened. Reply to this post and I'll get back to you asap!

Howdy folks! Just bringing you some news over the signal about a few of things. This will be brief because I need to head off to get some sleep.

First - The next challenge won't be posted until Sunday. Sorry for the delay. Right now things are pretty rushed for me and it is my turn to post. Also this will give us the chance to take a breather and keep to the schedule.

Secondly - A new rule will be added to the community. No anonymous voting!! I'm sorry but come on! The voting isn't unscreened so whats the point? All we do is tally the votes which takes enough work without having to stop and not include voting that isn't valid. Anyone can vote. All we ask is that you be either a member or watching the community.

Thirdly - When voting you don't have to enter the challenges. However if you are going to vote please try to vote for both categories. Each vote helps the community.

Hey crew! I've got some announcements and community updates for you! Nothing to be afraid of or worried about. ;)

Firstly I just have a General Rules reminder. Just because it needs to be done, and besides its annoying for you but fun for me!
General Rules -
1. No text is allowed at all. This is a hush challenge. Tiny, unreadable text is not allowed. Text is text no matter what size. This also means no textures with text and no brushes with text.

2. All icons must fit LJ specifications. So that means your icon must be... [Less than or equal to 40K and must be 100X100 in either .PNG .JPG or .GIF formats]

3.Do not post your icons (or variations) anywhere else until after the challenge is over.

Secondly is some great news! We had three lovely members volunteer to be banner makers! So a big round of milk and cookies for our volunteers!

The new banner makers are... frodolyn, jadeleopard, and megathy27!

You three will be all getting an email from me shortly enough. frodolyn, if you wouldn't mind replying with your email address that would be great! Don't worry comments are screened, so only I'll see it.

So that means as of the end of the month with this months winners we'll be adding theme icons to the voting for Icon Of The Month. Also, voting won't be seperate for the different challenges. Screencap first place winners and theme first place winners will be put together and voted against as a whole.

Hi folks! This is one of your lovely but ever so annoying mods speaking! Hahaha...

Well killer_mocha and I have spoke about a very important issue. Yup. And the final result of our conversation? We've decided we need your help! Thats right! We do! How?

We're looking for banner makers! Just a couple to help us out.

What we need to know:
Have you made banners for a community before?
Do you help out at any other communities?
And at least two examples of work/banners?

Considering the recent events in questioning if the Theme Challenge 1st Place winners were eligible for the Icon of The Month special voting I decided to open a poll. Just to make things easier.

Hey gang! We're back! And we're early!

And here are some changes coming to the community...

Mod's Choice - As of now to spice or lame things up we've decided to rename Mod's Choice to Captain's Choice. So from now on all we'll be picking "Captain's" choices instead of mods. If its too dorky or people hate it for some reason after a few weeks we'll change it back.

Icon of The Month - Icon of the Month will take all the first place winners from the Screencap Challenge and place them in voting against each other. The winner will recieve an extra banner for that icon along with having their winning icon as the default icon for a month.

For the past months of this year all of the first place icons are requested to do for a mass voting, icons will be sorted by challenge months then one for each month will be voted for. Afterwards banners will be presented. The winner from April will be the only icon used as the default icon until the end of June.

Icon of The Year - Icon of the Year is basically the same idea as Icon of the Month. The only difference is that instead of voting on all the first place icons of a month you'll be voting on the "Icon of The Month" winners. Again the winner will recieve yet another banner and honorable mention in the community userinfo.

Special Vote Catergories - We're also going to start bringing in new special vote catergories for each challenge ie. "Best Use of Color" "Most Unique Cropping" "Best Use of Brushes/Textures". The special vote will be used in both challenges and will hopefully be picked to suit both challenges.


And now, we have a question for you! Since summer is coming and that is the time for fun! We want to know that if instead of one week for you to complete your icons, if you would prefer two weeks? Don't worry if challenges go for two weeks you'll get two reminders. :)

If you want challenges to last two weeks we'll change the times to fit two weeks. But if participation is what it would normally be for only a week challenge? We'll switch the times back to a week.

Well you have from now until June 4th to let us know if you would prefer two weeks for challenges so we know how to set the due date accordingly.

Hey folks!

As you may have or may have not noticed Challenge 24 has not been posted. And it will not be posted anytime soon for a very good reason. As of Monday, myself and killer_mocha, will both be moving. Which also means we will be without a internet connection for sometime as we move. So as of the posting of this notice Firefly Hush - Silent Serenity will be on a months hiatus. It's just for a month and we wouldn't do this unless we had to.

Do not fret! We will be back! It's only from now until the 4th of June.

Also look forward to some new challenges, maybe new awards, along with some other surprises!

Incase if your wondering why we didn't just get two temporary co-mods? Here is your answer! We felt it would be better to just give the community a break as well. I know we've gotten some new members! Welcome! Please don't abandon us just because of a small hiatus. lol! However, since its getting close to summer things start getting busy at schools so participation is likely to drop some. At least I know it is getting busy for my friends...However this way we don't have to worry about that and you don't have to worry about entering.

So once again...

The community will be on Hiatus from now until Sunday June 4th. June 4th an announcement of our return will be made and a new challenge will be posted!
