You're reading the biography of the first (and only?) Fire Emblem LiveJournal community. Since FE is still kinda obscure outside of Japan, some of us English-speaking FE fans like to spread.. awareness of the series' existence. This is just my little contribution. ;)

...What the heck is Fire Emblem?
Familiar with strategy RPGs? The likes of Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle and Shining Force should come to mind, if you are. Heck, turn-based strategy would be more precise. The games play similarly to Advance Wars, which, oddly enough, never came out in Japan, even with the same developer as FE (Intelligent Systems, to be precise). FE is one of the first SRPG series to really exist (yes, even before Shining Force), as the first FE for the NES is around 13-14 years old now. FE games are set in a medieval European-like fantasy setting, often with countries at war, and dragons tossed into the mix.

Oh yeah... and there's a manga series and a two-episode anime of FE. The latter was actually released in North America, and that was the last we heard of FE until Marth and Roy showed up in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

So how popular is Fire Emblem outside of Japan?
Popular enough to have spawned a fansite for Sword of Seals and Blazing Sword, one for FE and FE: Mystery of the Emblem, heck, even one for Genealogy of Holy War. And how can Thracia 776 go without an English fansite (courtesy of lord_alvein)? Whew. So basically everything's covered except FE Gaiden...

Of course, FE fandom has spawned many things other than game specific fansites. There's currently an FE petition, created by nesshelper to bring the games to North America. He also created a nifty 'What Fire Emblem Class Are You?' quiz for you quiz whores out there.

Aaaanyway, more linkage. Thracia 776 was the first to get a decent official site from Nintendo, for starters.

If you're curious about Fire Emblem VI (GBA), you might want to poke around the game's official site at Nintendo... of course, it's in Japanese.

Same goes for Rekka no Ken (GBA), the seventh FE which came out in Japan in April of '03. I love official Japanese game sites... so much stuff! :D

And our one and only English FE (Rekka, of course) got a decent site of its own! I think it's kinda nice, anyway.

For the Japanese speaking, a whole crapload of info on each game is at a little site called PegasusKnight. I've only checked out FE6 and 7 sections, but so far they seem to be rather thorough with their info, especially in support. Yes, I can read it. You can stop looking at me funny now.

Which Fire Emblem games are Marth and Roy in?
Indeed, I get asked this all the time, so I thought I'd toss it in here. Marth's in the original FE, and FE3 (Mystery of the Emblem)... and some of you might remember him from the anime.. all two episodes of it. Roy's in Fuuin no Ken/Sword of Seals, linked above, and also in the ending of the English FE. But who cares? There's better lords than Rpy anyway, like his father (Eliwood), Lyn, Hector and Sigurd, to name a few. Okay, so Siggy's a bit of a bastard, but whatever.

So... is this series ever coming to North America/outside Japan and Asia?
Other than the one (Rekka) we've got? Dunno, but we're hoping, especially given the ending of THAT one...
