On August 13th, a friend of mine lost all of her physical possessions in a fire that consumed the three-bedroom duplex she was renting. It was started by a child that was visiting, an 11 year old girl, the half-sister of Renee's youngest child. It was a horrific, terrifying accident.

Her children, all 6 of them, lost everything. Toys, clothes, coats, beds, school supplies, video games, shoes.

Renee collected Wizard of Oz memorabilia. She loves that movie. If she was online, she would be reading WoO fanfic. Oz stuff and shoes, Dallas Cowboy stuff. Those were her only *splurges* and she lost most of it. All the shoes, of course. Most of the WoO stuff. All of her highly prized Dallas Cowboy shirts and a very nice jacket that had been a Christmas gift many years ago. Along with, of course, all of her clothes. And her bed. Her dressers.

The next day, I was helping Renee sift through what was impossible to save in the duplex. I took her kitten while her family was put up in a hotel by the Red Cross and I kept telling her that what was important was that she and her kids were safe. I hugged her while she cried and then I came home and wept at the injustice of life.

And then I called lostakasha.

I had just moved two months before this. I had given Renee and her boys everything that I didn't need/want. Furniture, clothes, kitchen appliances. Paring down my life, trying to regain control of my own issues. My son, who had kept EVERY TOY given to him since he was three, gave it all to Renee's younger boys. Tonka trucks. Electric trains. RC cars. A couple Nintendo systems and games.

That was all gone now, as if it never existed. And as much as I wanted to do something, anything to help Renee, I was tapped out.

So ... I proposed a bid-for-fic community to Annie. Wondering if that could help. I talked to my bank and Renee's bank about setting up a separate account just for *this* and finally, simply used Renee's own savings account. Which at the time? Had a whopping $25.00 in it. Just enough to keep it open, because we all have dreams.

In less than two days, lostakasha had created fire_fic and the sister community fire_fiction. I was astounded and thrilled. In a week, Annie had pimped the community all over Live Journal. I was dancing and promised weekly updates. Heh. *facepalm*

In less than two weeks, I was overwhelmed. Completely and totally caught off-guard by the incredible amount of participation that poured in from everywhere. From every fandom. From every corner of the world. Emails like I've never experienced, days where all I could *do* was answer and thank and sit here with tears in my eyes. People putting their name on the community offering web hosting, fiction, knitting, Christmas ornaments, homemade chocolates ... People that wrote to me and asked for Renee's address, sending her everything from boxes of sheets to boxes of clothing to gift cards for everything. Food. Clothes. People who clicked the Pay-Pal button and sent Renee whatever they could afford. Ten dollars. Twenty. Fifteen. Fifty. And so much more.

So many good wishes. So many healing thoughts. So many prayers and cards and notes that every single day brought joy into the life of my friend. A woman that, perhaps, two people on my flist have met in real life.

fire_fic is closed now. The bidding is over. fire_fiction is going strong, new stories almost every day.

Over $3550.00 has been donated through Renee's Pay Pal. Countless amounts have been sent to her via snail mail.

Her life is returning to normal, as much as expected. She's working every day, taking care of her boys. She's laughing more and crying less.

And this is all, in a very large part, because of you.

Newbie offering new stuff to bid on

I know I'm coming in at the last minute, but I didn't hear about this until a few days ago and didn't get a chance to join and post until just now. I'd love to help out, though, so here's what I'm offering (all bid prices are in USD):

For a $1 donation each, I will make you any icons you want in the following fandoms:

· Angel: the series
· Buffy the Vampire Slayer
· Charmed (not one of my fandoms, but I know where the caps are)
· Doctor Who (New series, not classic, unless you are able to provide the caps)
· Firefly

For a $5 donation, I will make you a header for your LJ or LJ profile in any of the same fandoms.

I will write fic in any of the following fandoms for one cent per word donation (e.g--a drabble is 100 words and would therefore cost $1.00, whereas a 1,000 word fic would be $10. Since I can't guarantee how kind the muses would be in advance, I don't feel comfortable charging a flat rate for all fic and don't want anyone to feel like they didn't get their money's worth):

For $50, I will make a music video for you to any song and using any video source you want. (I'm sorry if this seems unreasonable, but music videos are--of all the things I'm offering--the most difficult and time-consuming to make, and require the most hard drive space.)

Faith/Dean Fic for Sale

Here's the deal, folks. I have a Faith/Dean story, completed, that I wrote for someone else in this auction who ended up not being able to donate. So what I'd like to do is start the bidding on it. Being as I wrote this for charity, I don't want to post it until something is donated. I'd like to get $50 for it as originally negotiated, but we'll just see what we can do. Here's a taste:

In Bloomington, Illinois, when Sammy gets caught by a vengeful spirit, Faith does step in, smooth and sleek as the night sliding over the horizon. It’s bad, in the way that could only be bad where Sammy’s concerned, but she grounds Dean, makes him keep it together. Busts in the door to the factory with one foot and leads the ambush with a crossbow in one hand and shotgun loaded with rock salt in the other. And he’s dying inside, panic trying to claw its way out of his stomach, scratching Sammy’s name on the inside of his eyelids, but goddamn he has to stop to appreciate the moment. She’s unlike anything else he’s ever seen.

It's plotty in addition to the sex, focusing on how Faith fits into their world.

I was reading here that Snow is wrapping up the comm at the end of the month. I want to get a little more money into Renee's account, so I'm putting the below up to bid (several are things I've already started, and this will give me the impetus to get off my butt and finish them). No promises on timely delivery, but the stories will be delivered.

House of Leaves is the most recent layout. Everything is coded with CSS with the exception of Excess, Folly and Delight.

I'm always excited to learn new code. You will need to provide the images for the graphics. I can have it to you about one to two weeks after the layout design has been agreed upon and I receive the images for the layout. However, I won't be able to start until after October 12th.

I have a limited-edition "What Would Spike Do?" bumpersticker I'd like to offer up for auction. It's a limited edition in that I never expected the online service I approached to actually fill the order (copyright issues), and indeed, the day after I received the bumperstickers, I got an email telling me they could not legally fill my order... um, too late, suckers! Ahem. Anyway, I've given two away (one to trepkos, and one to my little sis, who shares my passion for all things Spike), and I'd like to auction one of the remaining two in support of Snow's friend. It's a pretty damn cool bumpersticker, folks. C'est la:

Offering manips

Offer: To make a manip of any characters from any fandom (or crossover). Het or slash does not matter. Out of this manip I can make you a lj header, icons, a wallpaper or whatever it is that you're interested in.

Examples: can be found in my lj scrapbook, and the manips are under the manip tag. (Please note that my art includes wincest rated PG-13 and if you're not in the SPN fandom you probably don't know what I'm talking about and you'll be fine ^^,)

Specifics: I do not make manips of an adult nature. The completed graphics will be work and kidsafe. If you're requesting a fandom I'm not familiar with you might need to provide me with pictures or at least point me in the direction of where I can find some.

Donations: I'd like to say $5 because my bid at SC is currently higher than that, but anything you're willing to donate is fine by me! It's for charity, right? :D

Estimated time of completion: I'm in the middle of moving right now so it might take me longer than usual. Probably one to two weeks, but not more than three.

Fandom Luminarie

I am offering a hand thrown Austrailian Porcelain luminarie with either the Earth Symbol from Stargate or the phrase Bite Me painted in blue witha light blue celadon glaze for the highest bidder.
The writing will look like this.
but that is a different type of porcelain so the actual will be more like this

It will take at least two weeks to make deepending on firing schedules and any possible casualties in the the kiln.

I also usually charge $15 US for one of these(without the writting) so I'd like bidding to start some where around at least $10US if that is alright.
