findapenpal hopes to connect people from different walks of life through letter writing.In order for this community to work, we need members. Feel free to pass the name of this community along to people that might be interested in writing letters and finding a penpal, but please do it within the rules of a particular community and please respect everyone's personal journal wishes about promotion. The more we can branch out, the more members we have...that, in turn, means more choices for penpals and the opportunity to learn more about a greater variety of people and establish lasting friendships through letters.
The process is very simple, and we've even spelled out the steps for you...just in case you're a first-timer!
1. Join this community if you are actively seeking one or more penpals. I suggest also adding the community to your friends list so that you can see posts from other members of the community, instead of just joining the community. If you choose not to add the community to your friends list, you may just miss out on a great opportunity to correspond with a wonderful person!
2. Upon joining, you should have posting access. So, make a post. You can choose to include as much or as little information as you wish. Some people want someone just like them with the same interests, other people want to leave more to the imagination until the letters begin. If you wish, you can use this survey provided for you. Simply copy and paste with your own answers and information. (You don't have to use this form. Feel free to create your own, or not even use one at all, as long as you get the info you wish to share out there.)

Interests can include things like your favorite kind of music, books you enjoy reading, television and movies that you like, and hobbies/activities that you are involved in.
Penpal Preferences means what kind of penpal you are seeking: male/female, of a certain age, of a certain location, etc. You can also specify what kind of penpalling you would like to do- postcards, greeting cards, short letters, long letters, swapping, packages, etc.
3. Wait for responses to your introduction post and choose your penpal or penpals based on the people that respond...and happy writing!!

findapenpal and its moderator are in NO way responsible for a person giving out his or her personal information. Giving out your address and other information is solely your choice. You can choose to disclose your address via e-mail instead of comments, or you can choose to screen comments that include your address. You can also obtain a PO Box at your local post office for a reasonable fee if you don't want to disclose your home address.2. I don't mind if you want to promote your community in
findapenpal but there are a few stipulations. If you feel the need to pimp out your own community in findapenpal and are using a large graphic to do so, please put it under an lj-cut and label it as a community promotion and what type of community it is. If it is just a link to the community and a brief description, putting it under a cut isn't necessary. Just be prepared to advertise findapenpal in your community, if it is asked of you. It isn't necessary to put photos under a cut, as long as they are reasonably sized. You be the judge of what "reasonable" is, but keep in mind those people who have slower connections. In the event that the photo is not safe for work (I don't know what you would be doing posting something of the sort in this community, but it takes all kinds, doesn't it?) you must put it under a cut and label it as "Not Safe For Work." Your entry may be under a cut if you wish; it is your decision. Please label all cuts, though. We want to know what is under them!3. Be nice. Don't be rude to other members of this community.
4. You may post as frequently as you like if you can't get enough penpals or you haven't found your perfect penpal just yet.
5. If you wish to be a sister community to
findapenpal, please contact the moderator! We welcome sister communities and are happy to list you on our user info, as long as you do the same for us, or you were kind enough to let findapenpal be promoted in your community entries. Also, you do not have to be a penpal-related community to become a sister community to findapenpal.
