Stage Hands - Buy this book!

The Backstage Handbook: An Illustrated Almanac

    of Technical Information (Imitation Leather)

by Paul Carter (Author), George Chiang (Illustrator)

    PROS:

Quite possibly the best reference of it's kind, this book condenses the most commonly needed answers to the most commonly asked questions of technical theatre into a convenient volume. I keep it in my tool bag, and it has proved exceptionally useful. Carter has collected all those thing that you're bound to forget. Get a copy, keep it with your tools, and never have to go crazy trying to find the elusive bit of knowledge you seem to have suddenly forgotten!

    CONS:

I guess I was expecting a book with written information - this is a lot of drawings - nice drawings -but they are for items I know well.

    ================================================
This book is an excellent resource for anyone working

behind the scenes as a stage hand or anyone in show

business. Click the image of the book above and BUY IT!

    Question
My major has a lot of subjects related to film. I'm from Argentina, so the subjects are in Spanish and so is the material we are given to study. I want to learn the basic stuff in English, so I'm looking for good film books where I can learn the different terms and the basics. I don't want to read the english translations of books I've already read, so I'm looking for books that film students from other countries read.
    Any recommendations?
    thanks!

    Withoutabox issues
Is anyone else having problems with the Withoutabox site recently? I've been doing festival searches and working on my online press kit and it keeps freezing and failing to load pages, it's becoming a serious problem.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    experimental vj newbie...
    Hey guys!

I've hit a point in my livejournal wandering where I want to seek out more of you video artists out there!

I started writing here many moons ago for my own personal exchange of words & documentation and not really to participate in a community.. however, I realize now that most everyone I've been connected to hasn't any clue or passion for the type of work that I do. I realize that we need these communities to share ideas and collectively communicate to people that "get" what we set out to do. So I come here hoping that some of you are into experimental stuff! I have such a huge, huge passion for experimental video of the vj persuasion, and am just hoping to find some eyes & ears to share things with that appreciate the stuff that makes me geekingly excited.

If thats you in any way shape or form, then I have this to share! (and more on vimeo if interested)

    enjoy :)

Lust from Holly Danger on Vimeo.

This was inspired by a solo afternoon walking around San Francisco a few days ago. The Haight was breathing with gritty, hot, sex-in-the-air fantasies that day. It's a nostalgic place full of history, fashion, and subtle unmentionables. Along the outskirts of dirty memories and coastlines that linger, someone is always willing to tell you stories over scotch in the evening, and put a flower in your hair as you undress the sunlight.

Mostly found footage collected from very many obscure locations, mixed with my textures & experiments.

The song is called Lust, by the Raveonettes
