I love the coloring in the film. It's a very beautiful film. I wonder who the cinematographer is.

it's Emmanuel Lubezki.

I just saw Children of Men yesterday, and his cinematography alone was worth the ticket price.

Yes me too. What a stunning film. Creeped me out. It was like 1984 all over again

I really liked the quirkiness of the siblings and the morbidity of the scenery, but Jim Carrey really fucked this movie up.

Agreed. He ate the scenery, the children, everything. I really enjoyed the set up, Streep and the kids' acting, but Jim Carrey just took over. The focus was on him, doing the fart and ball jokes he normally does, and thereby throwing away great scenery, cinematography, and forcing everyone else into a supporting role. Quite the waste. It would have been excellent and less dull if it hadn't been a star vehicle.

Have you read the books? Jim Carrey is Olaf perfectly.

IAWTC. I wasn't happy with the casting ai first, but seriously, Olaf = Carrey.

I read the first two. There is just an odd connotation I get with his appearance that ruined it for me.

His appearance was perfect, but his character was not. Olaf is a criminal and a murderer, not a clown.

The books were better, but I still love the film. The twins are the cutest things in the world and damn, Emily Browning is gorgeous. Cinematography and art direction were great, too.

I have yet to see this movie, but these are really pretty stills.
I bought and read the first five or six books in the series, and enjoyed them, but then they just got way too depressing for me and I stopped following the series ahah.

i'm not sure whether i liked the film itself that much, although it certainly was nice, but i LOVE its look. the clothes, the gloominess, the victorian-london-ness.

i agree with you.

the merging of the plots for three books i felt made the story a little...meh.

but the look, yes. and especially the costumes.
