My mom had 3 of the 4 of these recorded (off of PBS or Disney) when I was a kid. We used to watch them all the time. I went looking around online for a download with out much luck.

So I coughed up the money and bought a dvd set on ebay that had all 3 of his TV specials. They're VHS to dvd transfers so they aren't the best but very watchable.

These specials are amazing! I wanted share with all of Fred fans, so I ripped them and uploaded them.

Time is running out on the ReelJewels CafePress collection. It's far more expensive to run the store than to make any money off of. In fact, I'm about $100 in the hole. Going to take that loss and see if I can sustain the cost of three more months. So, I've got it running until then and if I don't at least break even, it's going to have to go.

This community has grown since I've created it and it's become increasingly inactive despite that growth.  I know this is my fault to a large extent.  Does anyone want to help me get it jump started again as an administrator?

Hope the new year is finding everyone well.

I've only just discovered the beauty of Howard Keel in the past week and through that search have placed "Calamity Jane: on my fav's musicals list. I went looking for Howard/Calamity graphics and came up with few so i decided i'd make a love/colour bar. Now i don't have photoshop so it won't be much but the thoughts there. If anyone out there is also devoted to Howard and Calamity please let me know...
i can do without you... )

What are your favorite musicals? An American in Paris, Singin in the Rain, Easter Parade, The King and I, Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera.
What are your favorite musical numbers? The Ballet from American in Paris; the overture from Phantom and "Fella with an Umbrella" from Easter Parade.
Who are your favorite musical stars? Singers? Dancers? Gene Kelly, Cyd Charisse, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, a young Frank Sinatra
Who are your favorite composers? George and Ira Gershwin, Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown.
How long have you loved classic musicals? Not very long at all - only started  watching them about a year ago when my mum bought An American in Paris - but i have loved The King and I since i was very small.
Do you think musicals are neglected as far as classic movies go? Not Really. I think as much as people watch classic films they also watch the musicals though i don't think many people watch classic films as a whole (I must confess though that i like it this way - it's like i've found something special that only a few people know about rather than all those who are ignorant of it's charm and i prefer being one of the few than of the many. Lol isn't that bad?)

The Library of Congress web site has an online exhibition about how the original Broadway musical, "West Side Story," was created, complete with rare photos, audition notes, telegrams (!), sheet music, set designs -- the works!
