Why this community?

This community is for posting links to reports and photographs of Filk conventions and similar Filk events.

Ever since newsgroups became generally available, people have been posting con reports to the net. And all those con reports are still out there. Somewhere.

Recently a few people have posted LiveJournal entries which list all the con reports for a particular convention. And those summary pages are still out there. Somewhere.

But what happens if you want to find out about a convention from last year? Or from several years ago?

Hopefully this is the answer. Keep all those summaries, or links to them, in one place and make them easy to find.

So if you've made such a summary page with a list of all the reports for a filk convention, please post here with a link to that page. Or create that summary page right here.

If you know of more reports that aren't mentioned, please comment to the post so the original author can add them to their list.

Reports of filk friendly conventions, housefilks, or similar are also welcome. But again links only please, not the reports themselves.

As more conventions happen, please add an entry here for them.

And there's lots of report from years ago - please add those you know about. For newsgroup reports it's probably best to link to the google groups version.

As for the actual format of posts, have a look at the examples I've posted and what other people post - hopefully a standard format will evolve. But I suggest using an LJ cut tag if you do a full listing, to avoid cluttering 'friends' pages. And please make dates clear - remember that US and UK mean different things by dates like 05/11/20XX.

For easier navigation I'm adding a yearly summary of the link pages (see the examples), and I've linked to those summaries at the top of this. When I see a new post for a convention I'll add a link to that post in the relevant year's summary page.

So it should be easy to find all the reports and photographs for a particular convention, even many years after it takes place, and even though those reports are scattered round the web.

To keep this useful, it needs to be kept clear of long postings and chatter. So please post only links to reports (or to pages giving links), not actual convention reports. And please don't post any discussion of the cons or announcements of future cons - there's several other filk communities where that can happen, such as

filk.

In fact there's rather a lot of filk communities on LJ. I get 127 matches for communities interested in "filk"! If I'm not careful this will become just another general community. This is why I think I need to be strict about moderating here.

To start with I've made this fully open for posting - if it attracts spam or trolls I'll tighten up as needed.

And it ought to have more than one maintainer - anyone able to help? (It would need to be known filkers.)

Posting Guidelines

Posts should be about filk cons and filk-friendly cons, or similar events - housefilks, filking at other conventions, etc. (If you think there ought to be something like this for other types of convention - good idea! Start another community like this. :-) )

For any one event, please post a single entry listing links to all the reports and photographs that you know of. If you already have such a list elsewhere, just post a link to that.

If someone else has already posted for that event and you know of more reports, comment to that report with the extra links.

If someone comments to your post please edit the links they give into your entry.

To keep this community useful and focused, please do NOT post anything else. There's lots of other places for general chatter. So there should just be: • Entries listing links to convention reports and photographs or similar. • Comments giving extra links to be added to the original post. • Informational and summary posts from the maintainers.

Anything else posted here will be deleted with no further warning!
