Munich, you so craaazy! Sep. 7th, 2008 @ 08:50 am

I've been in Munich since Friday. I have leave tomorrow around noon, and I don't know what to DO with myself today. I was going to take a walking tour, but my feet hurt so bad I don't know if I want to try to stuff them into my sneakers. I feel kinda bad sitting around on the internet in a youth hostel, but I dunno what else to do - I'm running low on money, so I'm trying to limit my spending to (cheap) food and a tour or two.

I took a walking tour of Dachau yesterday. It was definitely worth it. I don't know how many people know this, but I've been sort of morbidly fascinated with the Holocaust since I was in third grade. There's no way I could have passed up a chance to go to an actual concentration camp. I knew most of what the tour guide was telling us (not the details specific to Dachau, but the general "this is what went on in concentration camps" information), but it was still really interesting. And his fiance's grandfather was actually in the camp from 1933-1938 for being a Communist. (The guide was also really hot and had a Scottish accent. I tried not to dwell on this while we were in the camp. >_>)

At the hostel I met this really cool Argentinian girl named Ana. We went to a biergarten last night and met up with some Scottish girls that she'd met on a tour. While we were talking, a bunch of guys on a stag night came up to sit at our table... and asked us if they could cut off our bra tags for "Bra Bingo". Yeah. After trying to convince us for at least ten minutes to cut them off ("They itch! If you cut them off they won't itch anymore! What do you mean it'll itch if you do cut them off?"), a couple of the Scottish girls took out the bikinis they'd bought earlier and cut the tags off those to get them to go away. It was absolutely hilarious. I wish I'd thought to get a photo of it.

Completely random: OMG Hey Arnold! is finally on DVD! DO WANT.

So I didn't start mentioning about my classes yet. But I've had them all.

Wednesday I had French Spoken Language Practice. It's with Emery, same as Stylistics last semester... Yeah, the one I got a C in. :( But, it was entirely my fault, and we actually talked about it. I think I have a better grasp on my life now, so I won't completely ignore certain homework. I think that class will be less nerve wracking than Advanced...which makes sense. So that's good.

Dada and Surrealism, while very interesting, actually worried me a little. I'd be learning about a subject that I know little about to begin with, in a language that I'm not yet fluent in. But my professor is cool. Prof Brandt says that since Dada wasn't just a French convention, we would have the class in French and English (and Romanian, sunce two girls in our class are from Romania :D). She spoke frenglish, and it was kind of cool. I can understand frenglish!

Theeeen my night class was Literacy, the graduate level linguistics course I'm taking. Dr. Freed is the same as usual, and I still can't help but like her. And I participated a lot in the discussion, which made me feel all cool and mature. I get 2.5 hours with her every Wednesday (aka - production night). It'll be fun, I'm sure.

Yesterday, I had my other three classes. Global Issues is my crappy GenEd that I'm pretty sure I need. But it actually looks like it'll be fun. Dr. Berenson is awesome. He spent the first 30 minutes of class talking about the Republican National Convention and making fun of Palin. :) But he doesn't completely hate McCain, or Republicans in general. It's refreshing to meet people like that, especially because he considers himself hardcore Democrat.

Then I had a break in which I ate some lunch and saw Mia! We chatted for a bit, and then I almost fell asleep in the ASSIST office.

And then, I had Russian Prose and Drama. My professor is this adorable little guy from Canada. XD He can't be more than five years older than me...it's kind of hilarious. He seemed nervous, and he is a new hire, so this might very well be his first university teaching job. I'm not sure, but he seems cool. I think I'll like that class.

Theeeen I had Intro to Cognitive Science with Dr. Call! I like her. :D And she remembered me. <3 My class is mostly linguistics majors, but there are a few psychology majors, so it's nice. I know that class will be interesting.

After classes were over (for the week! <3), I had some free time D: and then ate dinner, and then went to the Montclarion meeting. LOL Our issue has so many...issues this week. XD But it really isn't too bad considering all of the sudden changes we had to deal with. Some kinks will hopefully be worked out next week, and I have a new copy editor now! <3

As for today...well, I woke up a few times this morning, but I kept sleeping because I have nothing to do today until Jess gets off work and we go to work out. But around noon I was woken up for good by the LOUDEST RAP MUSIC EVER in the quad, RIGHT OUTSIDE my window. Apparently the business fraternity is having a Wet Me Down in the quad, where they have set up slip-and-slides and will douse people with water as they walk by. At least the emcee is nice enough to hold people's phones for them while they play. :P I considered going out there, but I'm too self-conscious. Maybe if I had someone to go with me. lol But it is entertaining to watch.

Yeah, so... I never got to go to the Live/Collective Soul concert. My ticket never came. I'm super bummed. On the bright side Projekt Revolution was awesome yet again. I think I had twice as much fun because I had friends with me who were concert virgins. Originally we were out on the lawn, but then ushers came out and let us swap tickets for amipithetre seating. Chris Cornell was a lot better than I thought he would be. I grew up on Grunge so it was pretty frikkin sweet to hear Soundgarden stuff. He sang a little more Audioslave than I would have liked (never into them) but that's all right. While he was singing Hunger Strike, this other guy came out on stage and for a second I thought it was Eddie Vedder (who he collaborated with on the song).

I was Freaking. Out. You. Guys. Seriously.

Turns out it was Chester who was filling in for Vedder's part in the song. Then Cornell came out during Linkin Park and did a duet with Chester. I 'gasmed a little. True story.

I bought a ticket to see Jason Mraz, which showed up in the mail just a week after ordering it. LIKE TICKETS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. I'm really hoping he sings Plane cuz that's my favorite song by him.

Class schedule sucks this semester cuz HOPE didn't go through like we thought it would. My original choices got cancelled and I had to re-register during Final Registration. Luckily I got classes I needed without any fluff classes. MW is American History from 1890 @ 5:00-6:15 followed by 20th Century American Literature @ 6:30-7:45. TR is African American Literature @ 5:00-6:15 followed by Philosophy @ 8:00-9:15.

Philosophy rocks my fucking socks.

Expedia are shit!!! Sep. 3rd, 2008 @ 11:20 pm

The holiday to portugal has fucked up BIG TIME.

I was supposed to be in Portugal right now, instead i am still in bloody Bedford.

It's all the fault of Expedia, they are bloody useless. Myself and Lily tried to book a holiday online last Friday. The booking buggered up for some reason but they still took the money out of our accounts and put in aside for Expedia to take. We have been on the phone constantly to Expedia trying to get them to send an email to our banks telling them to put the money back in our accounts. The bastards who pick up the phone promise they will but when we phone Halifax to check up on them they always say they have not received a fax from Expedia.

We have phoned them a good 10 times now between us, asking them to send that fax to our banks but Exprdia never pull through. They are a bunch of wankers, i honestly don't understand why they won't send the fax because it's not even like they have our money, the banks just want confirmation from expedia that they will not be taking the money out of our accounts, so that the money can be taken from holding and put back into out accounts.

The money will not be put into our accounts until Saturday now. With confirmation from Expedia the money could have been given back to us within a day but apparently without that confirmation we will get it back within five working days.

We plan to book the holiday when we hopefully get the money back on Saturday and if all goes to plan we will book it for next Monday.

I will never book a holiday with Expedia again, their call centers are shit, they just don't care! If it was not for then i would be on holiday right now! The other problem is that Lily only has two weeks off work, so we also have to cut our holiday short because of them. Bunch of arseholes!!

I poisoned myself again, drat! Oh, and teeth! Sep. 2nd, 2008 @ 05:41 pm
[info]dzayde
When you accidently eat something with gluten in it, and have been gluten free for a long time.. it sucks monkeysnot. My tummy hurts like a mofo.

On the bright side, it has taken my mind off my sore front teeth.. lol!!! I decided to have the gap in my front teeth removed. How does one do that do you ask? Well, you have caps put on. Im in the process now, with a temporary set on until my teeth bleach to the right level, so no biting into fruit for me this week, and my mouth is just tender. But even the temorary ones look amazing, Im all excited!!!

And, if I stay on hte teack Im on, I wil lhave lost 50lbs by Christmas. I have 16 more to go. Cross fingers for me! Cause that is my mini-goal #2.

:)

First Montclarionz of the Year Sep. 2nd, 2008 @ 06:36 pm
[info]merirustryfe
Yes, it is in fact Tuesday evening, and I am in the Montclarion office. That's because we now have this super-early deadline of midnight on Wednesday night to send our boards to the printer, or the paper doesn't get printed. So yeah, remember those times I ended up not returning to the dorm room until 8 or 9 in the morning on Thursday? That can't happen anymore. (Instead, I might end up leaving the office really late on Tuesday, but at least this way, I can choose to leave when I feel like it's too late. I don't have to wait for the paper to be finished, because it won't be finished on Tuesday night. I just have to be satisfied with the night's work. This is a really long parenthetical.)

Today was all right. Voices was supposed to go to this Red Hawk Day carnival and sing to promote our group, but it was reeeaaallly hot, and it was hard to keep people's attentions, and then they started blasting music, and we couldn't even really sing. But we got to be in a group shot for the website wearing our Voices shirts, so maybe that'll give some publicity. :D lol

After that, we kind of just hung around in the student center. Jess and I went to the Montclarion office to start working. And I've actually seen a good amount of content. But the paper's size is changing, so there's all sorts of complications with laying out... Blahhhh. Well, apparently I set my deadline for first boards for 11pm tonight, so...as long as I get those by then, that'll be good. :O With the complications, though, I'll take having all the content being copy edited as having first boards. It's progress, at least.

Tomorrow is also the first day of class! I have my two French classes, though I'm honestly not sure what order, back to back in good ol' DI 115. I have like four classes in there this semester. But anyway, it'll be Spoken Language, Dada and Surrealism, and then way later at night, Literacy, my epic graduate level linguistics course. :) Should be fun! It's really depressing, though, to think about classes starting. Can't wait to get a job.

I'm going to try various forms of trying to better myself this year, namely an exercise regimen. Now that I know the Rec Center kicks ass, I'm going to try to go there at the minimum every Friday (anytime) and Sunday (night). Tuesday morning is also a good possibility, but it requires me having the motivation to wake up early in the morning to go, shower, and then get to class. Though my first class is at 1 on Tuesdays, so it doesn't have to be all that early. Maybe wake at 11, exercise for an hour or so, shower, and then get ready for class. The goal here is not to lose weight (though that would be an added bonus but also involves the unfortunate task of not consuming crap), but to make me more physically fit and hopefully also happier. There is some link between physical health and mental health. So if I improve one end, I'm bound to improve the other a little as well. At least my moods will be better. I've exercised a few times since I've been here, and I already feel better. But time will tell, as long as I stick to this. It's in my livejournal! I can't take it back now!

...But yeah. I'm finished with this post right now.

New icon away! Sep. 2nd, 2008 @ 12:53 am
[info]merirustryfe
Another new icon. :D I can't help myself.

The day started by going to lunch with Jen, Robin, and Robin's room mate Shaq. XD His name is Shaquille, and he's pretty cool. Mocking Robin ensued.

Then there was the lame Village pool party. It was different this year because it was co-sponsored by the Greeks. So we had Dengelegi at the grill smoking a cigarette. And drunk girls trying to cut in line for food. And raffles for towels, and a PS3 that some bimbo won. Justin and James were ranting about it, and it was kind of hilarious. "I BET SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT FINAL FANTASY IS!" XD Seriously, though. Super lame.

Then we had our first diner trip. :) It was good, and Laura and I got free meals because they lost half our checks. LOL Sweet deal for us.
