Those of you have seen the movie Freedom Writers know how much of a struggle it can be for teachers to get books for their students. Unfortunately, these are often the students who need the books most.

I teach sixth grade Language Arts in a middle school where most of the kids are on free or reduced lunch. My school is an alternative school and this means that students are bused in from all areas of the county and mixing together. Many of these students are going to an alternative school because they had discipline problems. Approximately 1/3 of the students have some kind of learning disability and are two or more grade levels behind in reading.

In January I am starting a Freedom Writers program. Unfortunately the school does not have the budget to purchase the two novels I need for the program and some of the students can not afford them. I normally buy things myself, but I cannot in afford 40 copies of two novels by myself.

So, along with other genorous writers in fandom, I am offering to write words for the books.

Because I cannot associate the kind of fic I write with my school, you will have to trust me to an extent. However, instead of asking for money, I'm asking you to buy the books off of an Amazon wishlist so that you know your money is going to books.

The wishlist here:

For each copy you buy of Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, your chosen writer will write 300 words based on your prompt. So if you want more than 300, you can buy more books. Just put in the gift notes which author you are buying.

For each copy you buy of Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Wartime Sarajevo by Zlata Filipovic, your chosen writer will write 600 words based on your prompt. Again, if you want more than 600, you can buy more books. Just put in the gift notes which author you are buying.

Then comment on the author's post and let them know what books you bought, how many, and leave your request. They'll verify with me when I receive the books.

Some authors may only offer a limited amount of words. When they sell out, their posts will be marked SOLD OUT. When I have enough books, the wishlist will not allow you to buy anymore.
