"Aliens?"

"Poppa said the aliens take kids from dark rooms!"

"Oh did he? Gabe, Poppa was teasing you. The aliens aren't real, I promise." He plugged Gabe's nightlight in and shut off the other light. "Get some sleep. You have school tomorrow."  He'd show Eric 'child-snatching aliens'. He loved Eric, but sometimes it felt like he was raising two children.

"You know, I took up diving because I'm afraid of birds," Eric slurred, and Ryan decided to actually listen to what he was saying... if nothing else, it was good blackmail material.

He would tell Eric he didn't mean to put the bleach in there and Eric would forgive him, eventually. Of course, Eric would probably know it wasn't exactly an accident, but he wouldn't argue.

"Calleigh doesn't need to know about that," Ryan grumbled.

"But you were cute. I haven't seen you so determined since-"

"She doesn't need to know about that, either." Really, could he help it if he didn't want to bottom every time?

"Got what?" Suddenly a white blur scurried past his feet.

"I was wrong!" Ryan tossed the bat onto the couch and launched himself at the mouse.
