(Request) Rather specific situation that doesn't really pertain to any specific fandom...
First request, booyaka! Anyway, I don't have a specific fandom for this one. Just no children's anime or real-person-fic please.

It's really quite simple. I want a nice, fluffy romance fic that focues on an extremely ultra-cute couple.



Here's your set-up:

Characters 1 and 2 are in an arcade. Character 1 is trying to win a plushie for Character 2 from that sadistic machine. You know the one I'm talking about. You manuevre a claw via joystick, and press the trigger to extend the claw in order to claim your prize... Except not. Because the machine either drops the prize, or never successfully picks it up.

Characters 1 and 2 need to chat about this, about the constant malfunction. Character 1 should observe what a sadistic bastard the person who invented this machine is.

Yes, I know I'm a needy, picky person. I'm about to get pickier.


Please do not give me/include:


  • Slash.
  • Alternate Universe fiction
  • The sadistic machine to give a prize at any time. It can LOOK like it's going to give the prize, but it can't DO it.


However, I am also a kind and wonderful person, so here are some fandom suggestions, as well as pairings.



  • GTO/Great Teacher Onizuka (Onizuka and Fuyutsuki)
  • FFVIII (Zell and Quistis; Squall and Rinoa; Irvine and Selphie; Seifer and Quistis if you think they could be cute)
  • Hellsing (Alucard and Integra, because him dealing with a sadistic children's game would make for hilarious hijinks)
  • Gungrave (Brandon and Mika, for many of the same reasons)

Very interesting scene...but no slash? *thinks* I don't think any of my het pairings are actually in a world/universe that would have one of these machines...And the pairing has to have mutual affections?

I don't know that it has to be mututal. For example, Character 2 could think that they're in the arcade as friends, while Character 1 is trying to get this plushie as a means to prove himself/herself to Character 2.

Also, as to the machine... The situation it represents is that you're reaching for something (and that's a physical something, not like a relationship) that you know damn well you'll never get. It's a hoax and you know it. But you suspend that knowledge just long enough to make an ass out of yourself. I think this could apply in a world even without such a game.

For example, Character 2 has a medical problem, and Character 1 buys some sort of snake-oil remedy, trying to help Character 2. Both of them, of course, know that snake-oil isn't going to do anything. So Character 1 just wasted his money and looks like a dumbass, because he believed the salesman.

So you don't mind if it's not that exact situation, as long as it is something that has the same symbolism/meaning? I really like that interpertation, it's a good idea and could make for an interesting fic...And if it doesn't have to be mutual, I might be able to write for it after all. Maybe even for the original situation you said.

Exactly. I don't so much care about the actual object, so long as the symbolism and the meaning stays the same.

I'm glad that you like the idea.

And no, it doesn't have to be mutual. It just has to be funny, or at the very least, somewhat light-hearted.

Sounds fascinating :) Unfortunately none of my fandoms would have an arcade like that except possibly Star Wars. If you don't get any responses in the suggested realms and you'd be OK with a Star Wars fic let me know.

I might try the Hellsing one if I can write Alucard/Integra and keep it along the lines of "fluffy."

Then again in that fandom it seems like any fic where someone doesn't have a gory death counts as fluff.

Hmm... I think I have an idea that at least follows the spirit of this in one of my fandoms (since it's hard to imagine an arcade in that particular setting.) I'll post it tonight, hopefully, and you can tell me if I got the idea. ^^
