Is this where you draw the line?
So, yesterday, thirteen was an excuse.
Today, twelve isn't.

What changed?

Edit: Ooops. The other way around. Yesterday it wasn't, today it is. (I know, I know, I can't spell either.) Anyway, a battle won over a kid adds a wrinkle.

Umm...because it's OMG!below the legitimate age to post on teh Pit11!!??

Seriously, beats the hell out of me.

And I just felt sorry for this kid. We've all been there in some form- why detail your altercation with someone that young like that? She's acting like an immature little brat now, but she'll grow up. I know I did, and I learned to laugh at myself. Whining about how she did all these things wrong what with the AN chapter and the melodrama on top of the grammar and whatnot, and her (admittedly) rude response to con-crit doesn't help.

Anyone else feel the same way?

When I see rants like this, I always think of "there's no prude like a reformed whore."

Maybe it's because I'm kind of old that I think posting pissing contests with 12-year-olds on the internet in a public place is really embarrassing.

Expecting to be praised for it is even more embarrassing.

Most embarrassing is when you have a hissy fit about the comments people made on your post, the one mocking the hissy fit the 12 year old had about the comments you left on her story.

It's not the classic definition of irony but it'll do.

Personally, I feel it's the way the two "reviewers" attacked the author.

The first review did nothing but criticize what was wrong with the fic. That's a huge difference from offering concrit. I don't blame the author for lashing out (even if she did do it in an immature way). Hell, adults would lash out if they got a review like that.

The second "review" was downright rude. A teacher or parent would NOT give criticism like that. They would start off positive and then go into what was wrong in terms of spelling and grammar. Plus it was degrading calling the author "little girl" all the time. Yeah, it was plainly obvious from the fic that the author was young but that's no reason to treat her as she's a 5-year-old.

The OP of that second review then had to go "bragging" to ffrants about what she had done, which was again rude (especially since by that point she KNEW that the author was 12 and should not even have been on ff.net). It was like an adult stealing a kid's ball and then bragging about it to their friends and then expecting a pat on the back for their "glorious" work.

IMHO, I find that maiyri was the most immature one out of the three of them. An adult picking on a 12-year-old is nothing to be proud about. In fact it's rather sickening.

Yes, this.

Being twelve isn't an excuse for writing badly or for not being able to take criticism. But that wasn't concrit it was an attempt to score cheap points by mocking a child.

Frankly anyone who not only tries to prove how smart they are by mocking a twelve year old and then feels the need to boast is clearly quite pathetic. I hope my life is never so sad that I have to try and be proud of how much 'better' I am than a twelve year old.

Admittedly, this was something I learned the hard way, but the first attempt of communication is going to set the tone for the rest of the correspondence. If you don't want someone to react like an immature and angry brat, then, uh, don't review like an immature and angry brat.

In short, yes, I agree with you so much that it's borderline painful.

This is exactly why I re-read my rants at least twice before posting them, so I can make sure my anger does not have me fly off the handle.

And her fic is not exactly perfect either.

If one comes off as so very condescending, then one's stuff should be 10000000000% perfect...

Some people are just idiots. Especially people who think they're pros or OMG I'm older than you, then look down at others like they're sitting on high throne.

Adult who acts like brat shouldn't be called adult by their age.

What [info]rekallthegreat said. Also, I really hate this "AGE IS NO EXCUSE!" thing. As far as I'm concerned age is no excuse only when one is old enough to know better - and no matter how mature teenagers think they are, they're just kids.* They rarely "know better." And as for grammar - yes, I know your grammar was perfect when you were 13. You're an exception. Yes, it's sad, but no amount of flaming is going to change that. Deal.

And I can't help but find 14-15 year-olds ranting about immature 12-year-olds funny. Maybe it's because I spend a lot of time on a forum where most users are 12-20 year-olds, and I often see people rant about how immature people younger than them are - and it always stinks of that "But I'm not like that! I'm mature! I'm not a kid anymore! I'm ranting about them to prove I'm mature!" attitude that obviously makes them just a year or so out of that certain age and being ashamed of ever having been like that.

*Disclaimer: yes yes, there are exceptions, not all young teens are immature, blah blah blah. They're the exceptions, not the rule.

"But I'm not like that! I'm mature! I'm not a kid anymore! I'm ranting about them to prove I'm mature!"

Or, to make this more ffrants specific: "Look at all these badficcers! But I'm not like that! I write good fic! I'm not a badficcer anymore! I'm ranting about badfic to prove that I'm good!"

ffrants stinks of it.
