Final Fantasy IV

The FFIV blog updated today with info on voice mode, event skip, event theater, mini-games, hidden character, wireless versus mode, and setting abilities. Here is a translation of the blog by Gamepad:

Some small news scoops...

It's Asano here.

Due to a business trip (and the circumstances of such) the update was the last thing to get done this week...

Shops have started advertising the game with previews to help spur interest, and hopefully people like what they see.

There should also be tv commercials hitting the airwaves so be on the lookout for those. They start around prime time on Wednesday.

There's plenty of small changes from the former release of Final Fantasy IV, and I'd like to mention my favorites. And since it goes on sale soon, don't expect the magazines to focus on the small stuff.

Voice Modes

Because we put a lot of time and special care into the voices, we'd like you to leave them on but you have the option of turning them off.

Config menu: Voices (On or Off)

Event Skips

Pressing the start button during an event or cutscene will ask you if you want to SKIP? that scene. Pressing the start button again will then skip the currently playing scene.

Event Theater

Along with the jukebox there's an event theater, and we felt like Yoshioka's artwork suited the idea perfectly. Any events that have already occurred in your quest are viewable here.

Mini-Games

There's more than one, but this one's my favorite:

Four numbers appear, along with various mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and you have to organize them to make a sum of 10.

I'm sure you've tried something similar before?

Hidden Character

Setting records in the various mini-games (for the super fast hardcore players) will earn you this special character.

Once you've won the character you can use it in your party, including during battles. When fighting, if you choose to summon this character it will replace the summoner allowing you to fight with it.

We won't spoil what this character can do, but be sure to use this hidden character!

Wireless Versus Mode

You can use this hidden character to go head to head with a friend (only through local wireless play; its not Wi-fi enabled).

This allows you to play various mini-games against your friend in high speed challenges (whoever gets the highest score is recorded on both systems for bragging rights).

Every time you play these the hidden character becomes slightly stronger so play plenty of versus matches!

Setting your Abilities

With the new "inheritance system" replacing the character swapping (from the GBA edition), we're including the ability to set your own battle commands (besides the typical list of fight, item, etc). You can even insert specific spells or items into the list for quick and simple access.

Rydia's battle command list: item Ice Rod, Black magic Bio, etc

Even if this seems a bit unusual, hopefully you'll be comfortable with it. The active time battle system can even be slowed down (at battle speed 1) for extra relief if its a problem.

...

So what is the combined effect of all these different feelings?

You'll have to wait 2 more weeks for it to go on sale to find out!

We're rushing to complete the official site, the marketing department will kill us if its not completed so expect it to be finished soon.

With that, we'll see you next week ~
