Okay, so I'm new to the community. Someone I know said they found it and thought that I could get some help here.

I'm new to doing websites, too, and I wanted to use eFiction to make an archive. Well, I've been trying to get it working, and I get through most of the steps it gives. I can't figure out how to finish, though. It says that I have to go to the site and log in to finish installing. I try, and it just won't install. It doesn't come up with anything to install. I've asked several people I know, and they have no clue, either. It doesn't even give me any kind of errors. It just won't work.

Does anyone know what I need to do?

If it helps at all, I use FileZilla for my FTP client, and my sitehost is nearlyfreespeech.net.

Thank you to anyone who can help/try to help.

I've just upgradede Children of Time to eFiction 3 and when fics are submitted we're getting errors. The fics are showing up in the validation queue as they should be the author gets an error message and has to use the browswer to back up to get to the site again.

I've tried asking on the eFiction forums and am not getting an answer so I'm trying here...

The errors I'm getting are:

A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT PENNAMEFIELD AS penname FROM DBPREFIXfanfiction_coauthors AS c WHERE sid = '139' LEFT JOIN fics1fanfiction_authors as author AS a ON a.UIDFIELD = c.uid
Error: (1064) You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'LEFT JOIN fics1fanfiction_authors as author AS a ON a.UIDFIELD = c.uid' at line 1

I've upgraded my site http://childrenoftime.creative-musings.com/archive to efiction 3.5 from 2.0.7 and I need to know how to upgrade my skins to the new script. I'd like to keep the same layout if at all possible. Right now nothing is working correctly, even the skins that came with the script are not working as they should so any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd lst the errors but there really are too many to list here...

I've used efiction 2.0 before and I'm sure it allowed authors to respond to reviews but now on my new site it isn't offering that option.

I have a review for a fic and I want to respond but the only options it's giving me are the admin options of edit and delete. My ohter site though was just changing 1.0 skins to 2.0. This is a new site and the respond option isn't showing up.

site is Children of Time

Any suggestions?

First off, is this lj still active?  If so, I have a couple of questions.

I've been running the Jumperbay archive using e-fic for the past few years. The site has been plagued by hackers and used in phishing scams to the point that it's been taken down by the server this past week for good. I have decided to move it and start all over again as I really don't want to lose the 600+ SGA stories in the archive.  The Jumperbay had been updated to the latest e-fic available less than a week ago on top of being moved to a new server, and it was still hacked...again.

My question is, with all the updates in place, how can the site continue to be hacked? Is there something that I'm missing? What do I need to do before I open it back up to the public one more time?

Secondly, I'd love it if someone could help me design new skins.  Is there a beginner's template available?

Thanks.

I'm running eFiction 2.0.3, and (many years ago) had some trouble installing it. A friend who actually knows about these things killed himself fixing whatever I had screwed up, but lord knows I don't want to pester him again. Anyway, we've had some screwiness, longstanding and recent.

Keeping in mind I don't know PHP or SQL at all, can anyone give me an idea on where to start on these errors?

1) When trying to respond to reviews, we get:
A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT review, reviewid, sid, seriesid FROM fanfiction_reviews WHERE reviewid = '305' LIMIT 1
Error: (1054) Unknown column 'seriesid' in 'field list'

2) When trying to delete a spam review, we get:
A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT seriesid, sid, chapid, review, rating, member FROM fanfiction_reviews WHERE reviewid = '693' LIMIT 1
Error: (1054) Unknown column 'seriesid' in 'field list'

(#1has been around for awhile; #2 we just discovered. The ability to delete reviews is turned on in the settings area, and it was an anonymous spammer. I've turned off anonymous reviews for now to at least halt the problem, but deleting them would be nice. We've also had some issues with special characters showing up as random question marks and things, in case anyone has an idea on that, but I'm not as concerned about that one.)

You can see the archive at http://refuge.queenitsy.com/, and my email (if anyone has any thoughts) is allreb@gmail.com. Thanks!

I'm new here, but [info]shannon730 told me to come here and beg for your help.

I'm running version 1.1 and I've set up four rating categories. I set two of them to have warning pop ups and the other two have none. All four categories are having blank pop ups. The mature ratings should have something on the pop up and the other two should have no pop up at all. Any idea why this keeps happening?

My website is here

Thanks

EDIT: fixed. No punctuation in the warning field = good.

Hey all, I'm relatively new to eFiction and set up an archive back in August It seems to be going well but I have problems with skins. The available ones out there are either (IMO) ugly, too bright, or the layouts aren't all that. As I'm a code dunce and tech challenged, I can't create my own.

Does anyone know of ppl who would design something specific? I'm more than willing to pay for a custom skin design (within reason!) but as much as I've searched, I haven't found anything! (I'm thankful to the designer of my current basic skin and to a friend for trying to design one for me, but would really like to have something that stands out)

Any help would be most appreciated!

I can't remember how I added content on my Links page at Walking a Thorny Path. This is the first time that I have had to make a change to the page since I created it, and I have no idea how I did it then.

I'm using v3.2.

When I click on Page Links and then Edit for Links, it doesn't let me edit the content of the page. Does anyone know how I do that? I need to add a new affiliate button.

Hi,
I'm new to this group and am attempting to set up an archive using eFiction v3.2. Things have been going well so far, but we've discovered that there's something wrong with the automatic outgoing e-mails. When I try to have an e-mail automatically sent out (for a password as an example) I get the fallowing error message:

Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to smtp.fi3ldwork.com:25 in /mnt/w0900/d14/s39/b02a2603/www/fi3ldwork.com/includes/smtp_include.php on line 106

Does anyone know what this means?

Anybody know of any software that automatically handles uploading of .mp3 files? Preferably, one oriented toward downloading rather than playing media. I've looked into Podpress, but it doesn't actually handle the uploading.

I've used eFiction 1.1 for years and this is the first time I've had this happen, and really can't figure out the problem.

I'm hosting and helping a friend set up a 1.1 archive (personal site). She's trying to set up her categories and has made images for each category. For some reason one image won't show up. If you type in the full url in a seperate window it loads so the image isn't damaged or anything but it won't show in the script. She has the path correct, I've double checked it, but it isn't working. All the other images work fine, it's just this one.

Her Site is http://fmnble.magical-worlds.us/ , the category in question is Challenges.

If anyone has any suggestions on what's wrong with this, we'd appreciate the input.

Following up on my post from last summer, now that I have a weekend (sorta) free to work on an archive-from-scratch project *g*, are there any more cool functions you've seen (since I asked this question last time) on another site or script that you would love a fiction archive to be able to do?

(And once I get it written, I'll holler at you all to come test and break it for me. *g*)

I have just recently taken over an archive and moved it to my own domain and I thought everything was running correctly, I had test uploaded a story and it went through with no problem. However, my stories weren't sent to be validated.

It's not a busy archive so I hadn't thought much of not getting any notifications of submissions for the last few weeks, but apparently at least one person had submitted fics that hadn't gone through. When I went to the view submitted page today to check I got this:

A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT story.title as storytitle, chapter.uid, story.sid, story.catid, chapter.chapid, chapter.inorder, chapter.title, author.penname FROM chasersfanfiction_chapters as chapter, chasersfanfiction_authors as author LEFT JOIN chasersfanfiction_stories as story ON story.sid = chapter.sid WHERE chapter.validated = '0' AND chapter.uid = author.uid ORDER BY story.title
Error: (1054) Unknown column 'chapter.sid' in 'on clause'

It's the only page that I can find that isn't working, and I'm not sure how to fix it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The site is an Efiction 2 site, the url is http://chasers.magical-worlds.us

Does anyone know if there is anyway to either require people to register to post a challenge or to remove that section all together.

I assumed you had to register, as did my mod, because you can't post anything else without registering. Long story short, We have 40 pages (after deleting 30) of spam.

I would preferably like to keep the page but require registration to use it. If not...does anyone know where the files are stored so we dont' have to continue individually deleting everything.

The site is NHA

I just installed eFiction for the first time, (you can see the main page here) and it appears to have installed successfully, except that when I go to input new categories, I get this error message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare stripinput() (previously declared in /home/.flitters/livia001/whitepaperdream.com/archive2/header.php:26) in /home/.flitters/livia001/whitepaperdream.com/archive2/header.php on line 26

I have successfully added new ratings, warnings, characters and genres but it is not letting me add new categories. Can anyone help me out with this? I'm not sure what the problem is.

ETA: I have another question too.

Is it possible to change the names of the categories like 'Ratings' or 'Warnings?' (Just for example, could I change the name of 'Genres' to 'Story Length' and then the options in that category would be "Drabble" "short story" "long story" "novella.") Or suppose I wanted to change 'Categories' to 'Fandoms'. Is that possible in eFiction?

Hi all - I maintain three efiction sites and over the past weekend I've been having real trouble with them. My webspace was hacked and a mailer virus was planted on there but this didn't seem to be connected to efiction, rather it was a security issue on a gallery script I run on another subdomain. However, when I checked the efiction sites this morning, I was getting '403' (forbidden to access...) errors on the sites and, checking my control panel, I found the permissions on the folders had been changed to '000'. I changed them back to '755' and tried to access the admin functions on the site. I can log in, but am apparently not authorised to access the admin sections.

I've checked the MySQL database and I am still listed as a level 1 maintainer on all three sites so my admin privileges are still there, I just can't access them.

Apologies if I'm being a bit random here, I'm not entirely sure whether it's an efiction problem or if it's a leftover effect of the hacking problem last week or... quite what's going on. Anyone have any suggestions?

Something bizarre seems to be going on at my eFiction site (running version 2.0.3). This morning, we got an email sent to all members saying that the adminstrators were arrested and the site was shut down. Obviously, none of this happened. We can't figure out how it was sent, though; it came from the site's official email address, which is actually just a forwarder on my domain, so it looks like it has to have been sent through the archive's mail users function.

All of the administrators have now changed our passwords, and nothing seems to be wrong with the archive itself. If anyone has any thoughts on what might have happened or how, and if there's a way to prevent it in the future, please let me know.

I know that in eFiction, you can't sign up with the same e-mail address to more than one account, but is it possible to actually ban e-mail addresses from signing up? There was a thread over on the forums, but it didn't seem to come up with a definitive answer.

We have a particularly stupid plagiarist on one of my archives. She submitted dire fics, which we rejected multiple times for being so far below our minimum standards (and yes, she kept resubmitting them in spite of being told that several times, which gives you some indication of her levels of stupidity). Then she submitted something readable, which set off alarm bells and sent us on google search.

Yup. Plagiarised. So we deleted that account and named and shamed her on the front page, as it says we will do in our rules.

Since then she has:

- signed up several times with the same username and e-mail address

- signed up several times with a different username but same e-mail address

- signed up several times with the second username but a different e-mail address

- signed up again with a variation of the second username with the same, second e-mail address and managed to submit a fic before we deleted her account - one of the fics we'd rejected multiple times in the first place

- signed up again with a third username. Not sure about the e-mail address this time because one of my co-admins caught her when, again, she resubmitted one of the fics we'd rejected multiple times under her original name.

So, basically, this is not a very bright but rather determined individual. And since she keeps reusing the same e-mail addresses (and account names), I'm looking for an easy way to put another obstacle in her way. I'm worried, however, that if I create an account using the same e-mail address as she uses, she'll be able to get the password (especially as I'm just irritated enough to call the account something like 'Stupid plagiarist', which might give the game away... although it might be worth her accessing it if it's called something like that ::g::).

Is there another way to do it? We can't ban her ip address as it's dynamic (and a pain to find) and unfortunately she uses the same isp as two of our admins, so I don't want to risk blocking their access too. E-mail address banning seems the most logical thing.

Thanks.
